Thank you very much for your transparency and honesty. I find it VERY interesting that there's no school pride, how different! I hadn't imagined that. I just got accepted to graduate school there and it's funny because I'm more nervous about going to AU than where I went for undergraduate school! What are people like usually? Are people cold at first, or would you say people are pretty kind when you meet them at first? (I'm coming from Hawaii- where everyone smiles and throws a shaka.) Hahahahha, thanks again for a great video!
How many AP’s did you take in order to max out ap transfer credit? And if you don’t mind, what were the APs. I’m a Junior in HS and I’m looking into AU for when I apply to colleges next year
Hi! AU lets you transfer a maximum of 30 credit hours in from AP courses, the amount of classes that's equivalent to varies depending on which exams you take. I believe the AP courses I counted were: macroeconomics, calc BC, world history and statistics. I definitely overdid it with AP classes in high school and wouldn't recommend taking a ton of AP courses just for transfer credit just because not all schools accept it, just do what feels best for you! Hope that helps, best of luck with your college search process :)
Full transparency I don’t have any real experience with it but since it’s a smaller portion of AU students I think there are definitely benefits like more personalized attention/ career help etc! Also they just built a beautiful brand new science building
question! how is AU with financial aid and like cost? i’ll be a first gen student next year (im a senior in HS) and would probably fall closer to the low income side of students. i love love love AU but at the end of the day it’s in a big city and is a private uni? how would u say they are about financial aid and meeting costs with students? thank youuuu
Hi Matt! So glad to hear you’re interested in AU. It is a private uni but they generally are pretty good at meeting costs with students and have processes to appeal the financial aid decisions if you think they were incorrect. There are also plenty of merit scholarships available (you don’t have to apply for them but if you apply to the honors/ scholars/ CBRS programs that can help get you considered from my experience)! it is in a big city so cost of living is more expensive food wise/ housing wise if you move off campus as an upperclassmen. I’m rooting for you in your college app process!!
@@dnayjahjoseph8222 oh wow really!!! was it through merit-based aid or just grants? i didn’t have like straight A’s or the best GPA in high school so i’m not sure if i’d get a lot in merit aid 😩
I loved it! Definitely had some of my favorite classes/ professors in it. You get to take 3 gateway thematic classes to test out which are right for you before committing too!
I got an offer from American University, Hofstra , and Adelphi University. I have a question: American University is good in location as per transportation? Academic and for job criteria in Washington DC?
Great video! I totally agree with you on AU. I also graduated from AU in May 2021 and am still there doing a master’s degree. It really is a great school, especially for academics.
Hi I really appreciate this video but I have a few questions ! I just graduated this may and I felt like I really need to take a gap year so that’s what I’m planing and to be honest I can start this spring 2024 but I don’t think that’s a thing in AU so I’m trying to apply for fall 2024 My question is when does the application open ? I’m also a first gen so tbh I don’t even know where to start when it comes to financial aid and dorms moving in it all seems so overwhelming but AU is my dream uni
i think it’s changed a lot since I was on campus given covid & the movement to abolish Greek life (it definitely still exists on campus but not sure what it’s like)- however I will say that before any of that there was definitely an active party scene mostly centered around Greek life if you wanted to be a part of it, also definitely more of a club scene going out downtown as well! but if you weren’t interested in it the great thing was being in a city there was plenty of other stuff to get involved in
I know you did not specifically do honors but do you know if you can opt out of living learning communities? I really want to have a true first year experience with many different people
Hi!! So glad you enjoyed my video. I don’t know how the admissions and financial aid office considers students of any background but they definitely do take into account lots of different things and try to meet your financial needs!
I just got in !! I’m from socal and I’m a bit scared to go really far from home. Also I got an offer to join their UC program if that means anything that you know :)
The montage actually makes the video more interesting 😍 Thank you for sharing.
Lots of good advice. Thanks
