Since you guys are big Prince fans, you should definitely check out "Nasty Girl" by Prince's protégé girl group Vanity 6. 2 members of Vanity 6 are Prince's former girlfriends. He wrote all of their songs and produced the group too.
Haha. I’m surprised Jay didn’t restart the video from the beginning 😂. He didn’t everything he could to not look at the screen after the break 🙈. Mary Jane Girls had something for every guy. A blonde, a brunette, a black queen and a mixed girl. This definitely is on every 80s playlist 🎧 🎶
The Mary Jane's Girls were Rick James' answer to Prince's girl group Vanity 6, you should check out their biggest hit, Nasty Girl, written and produced by Prince. Fun fact: The lead singer of Vanity 6 was given the name Vanity by Prince, her real name was Denise Matthews and she was discovered by Rick James. An armload of multicolored plastic bracelets, mesh gloves, and the earrings had to be huge to be seen through all that hair. Don't forget the glitter and ton of makeup. I remember when this song came out on the Mary Jane Girls' "Only Four You" album, which my roommate thought was such a funny play on words. Any time we played this song he would hold up the CD case and say, "only four you, count em!" as he pointed out that there were four Mary Jane Girls.
As a young woman in the 80's, I can tell you there has NOT been another decade like it!! This was so sexy in the clubs back then!! What a great trip down memory lane❤❤❤❤
JoJo is the lead singer. Her real name is Joanne McDuffie and she had that perfect vocal tone to sing Rick's stuff. You can really hear it on All Night Long.
This was a big hit for the Mary Jane Girls in 1985..the single topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in April 1985 and remained atop the chart for two weeks. It also reached the top 10 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, peaking at number seven on the Hot 100 in June 1985 and remained in the top 40 for 12 weeks.
