I'm in my 70's so I've never done any video conferencing before, but I find myself in that situation with my friends, Bible Study Group, and family. This was a huge help to me. I am going to send it on to others. You are very down-to-earth and pleasant. Thank you for making this video. Can't wait to see others.
This is wonderful. You're a real human. It feels like you have our best interests in mind, and you really want us to look our best. No gimmicks, no millennials' beauty tricks because I'm 64, and I have jowls and sagging neckline and bags under my eyes. It's really depressing. I want to start a RUclips channel, but I'm daunted by the way I look. But your friendly easy to listen to manner is giving me courage. Thank you.
I do zoom meetings several times a week. I use a laptop , my desk is against a wall. I have a ring light mounted on the wall in front of me and use a virtual background to mask my actual space. I also make use of the filter features in zoom or MS Teams😊
I've been astounded by how little thought some of my colleagues have put into how they look in virtual meetings - cameras pointing up people's noses, unmade beds in the background, etc. You gave a great collection of tips.
Cindy Howard good point Cindy, but do u think the person who would have the type of stuff going on in the background and not give it a thought, would bother with SuperPHdiva? Tacky classless people don’t believe that their background of debris, unmade bed, screaming kids running back and forth, really don’t care.
You certainly modeled a great video! This is the first video I found/watched of yours. I am currently teaching remotely and videos are going well but you gave some really good tips. Thank you! I also really loved your friendly approach in your video. I look forward to watching some of your other videos. Take care!
Thank you so much for all these tips, Bobbie! I am 63 and have intentionally lost 52 pounds recently, so these tips will be valuable to show me as the healthy lifestyle I now enjoy!
I watch lots of beauty youtubers and find myself wishing some would take these tips to heart. Some play with and touch their hair constantly. Some have an unmade bed piled with clothes. I struggle to put up with that kind of thing. Very clear, well organized tutorial on video conferencing!
Oh I LOVE you! You covered it all! I have 2 conference calls tomorrow and this really helps! I have done a few things you mentioned which I will try not to do tomorrow. Its so nice to have a lady close to my age (I am 61) who gets it and understands how important it is as we get older, to be careful of angles, lighting, and what I am doing while I am on camera. I am probably not going to be attentive at all, as I will be looking at all the things everyone is doing wrong!! For once, I am looking forward to a conference call! Thanks Bobbie, looking forward to watching more of your videos :-)
Fantastic tips! I'd add: don't walk around during Zoom/virtual meetings. I've been in so many recently where participants are walking around their homes during the entire meeting. 😆
I've been searching forever for a video like this so I can record videos with my phone. I was disappointed with the videos I've watched. I stubbled on your video today and it was exactly what I needed. This was priceless and so helpful! I love the attention to detail. Showing all the differences. And your personality is just the sweetest. I've subscribed after glancing over your past videos. I have about 10 years before I'm near 50 but love your content. Thanks again for this information.
Bobbie, thank you so much for this video. Very helpful, especially since I'm currently in a job search. I ordered a ring light to fix my lighting issues. The main light I had was coming from my gigantic iMac screen (awfully bright and not the best quality), so I'm going to dim the Mac screen and use the ring light for video calls.
Great tips, very practical and necessary. My eyes are often red and look tired. For a brighter eye look, I use white eye liner on my lower eye rim, just above the lashes.
Great great tips! My issue is PROGRESSIVE glasses! At the right distance and height to look decent, I have to look through the bottom of my glasses. Thus, tipping my head up. Gah! Tip: Root Touch Up also makes thin hair look thicker, a shade darker sprayed at the roots from below
What a great and informative video! I'm not part of your target audience, but still enjoyed all the tips. I work as a teacher, and have been trying to look as professional as possible on camera. My desk is now facing a window, which has improved lighting enormously. One thing that still bothers me, however, is that my eye color still appears way darker than it is. Ideally, I would have to sit so much closer to a light source (and blind myself in the process) in order to get my eyes to look hazel green instead of black. I have ordered a ring light, which I hope will help improve things.
Wow, this was such a great informative video. Thank you. I’m not interviewing but I do facetime my adult kids. I feel like I’ve always looked awful. I’ll try some of these tips.
Wow.... What a ton of useful information. I’m going to participate in a FaceTime conference call today and our company started doing Zoom calls. Stumbled across your station so glad I did. Especially the horrifying thought if your camera fell . Lol Thank you 😊 🎥
I love all these tips and playing around with all your suggestions while I prep for future interviews. Now if I can only get rid of the glare in my eyeglasses grrr oh well reality does come in lol I'll be checking out videos for that one, thanks again Bobbie
Wonderful tips . I’m a 47yo high school math teacher forced onto Zoom to have class. I needed your tips! My only dissent is the drinking. Teaching for 40 minutes, I could not survive without sipping from a water bottle. I’m hoping it’s not as bad as you make it out to be, because with medications that dry me out, there is no other alternative. My mouth would be so dry I would be rendered mute! I’m definitely putting much of what you said into practice straight away!
Thanks for all the great information! When I Skyped with my family last week, I was horrified by the way I looked. At one point, I put the dog on my lap so I could hide behind him. These tips will help me for our next video chat. And, like so many others have said, you're hair looks even more beautiful than usual!!!
I can't wait to send this video to my daughter as she does video calls quite frequently as part of her business. One of the things I really appreciate about your videos is I can always hear you perfectly. Yes, I am hard of hearing lol but some people practically whisper and it's so annoying. Thank you for a terrific video 🤗
I don’t like it when a video goes back and forth with the sound so I have to keep changing the volume. I should have said something about that. Keep volume consistent. Stink...I knew I’d forget something. 🤷♀️
Thanks for your suggestions for video conferencing. I started working at home 2 weeks ago and just using the technology for the first time is daunting. I will try out your placement suggestions as I am alternating between iPad and laptop. I think my lighting fits your recommendations and with cloudy days I have definitely noticed the change in level of natural light. It’s so helpful for you to share your expertise with all of us. One funny thing since we moved to work at home makes me smile every time I think about it...we got an email and it said “wear bottoms in case you have to step away to get something during the meeting”. I wondered if it was because something happened in one of our meetings or if it was just a tip that came from some kind of ‘top 10 things to avoid list’. Either way it still makes me smile when I think about it. You look terrific today! Take care and stay safe!
Thank you so much for this information! I just found you in the last few days. I nearly wet myself over the fan situation!!! Sometimes its better to show what not to do. Plus, I love your honesty, how clear you are, and you are just pleasant. May the Lord bless you!
Thank you Bobbie. Info re: lighting and adjusting angle of lap top was so helpful. By learning your techniques i look shadows have disappeared, which were causing me to look tired when I was not. Looking forward to discovering more of you videos. Good health to you.
I'm a new viewer-fan. My hair is white and I normally add blond to darken it...so while in quarantine, the blonde faded and my hair is now platinum like Marilyn Monroe! Because I'm elderly, white is an older look. I darken to look younger. Yes--I really love Lumify eye drops. It's a little pricey, but a wonderful product...from Grandma Bunny--not the dumbest blonde in Arizona!
Awesome tips. I'm getting ready to host weekly Zoom meetings and today during practice my lighting was terrible and you couldn't see many facial features. I looked so washed out. LOL!! Thanks for these tips.
Yes, I don't wear make-up normally IRL (in real life). But my face looks washed out in my online videos, and I am teaching 100% online now. Thank you for all of your tips. I am already implementing some and will look into getting some lipstick and mascara to define my eyes and mouth - my best facial features.
Wow, very informative. I would not have thought that the lighting would make such a drastic change, but your examples were spot on. You are very pretty, by the way. Thanks.
One of the best "help" videos I have seen. While I am well past 50, I certainly appreciate the tips on looking better, camera position, lighting, etc. As a person with significant hearing loss, I really appreciate you emphasis on talking clearly. Hardly anyone seems to pay attention to that these days. I hope to be a subscriber soon, but need to get in there and practice some ZOOMing now.
Great tips and examples. Having appropriate bottoms on during a call is important. Who knows what could happen! A mouse could run in, the camera drops as you said, there is an earthquake, etc.
You're fantastic. I shared this with my Mom, she loved it. We are currently working on keeping our local community theatre alive in quarantine. We are at risk of losing funding if we can't figure out how to keep it up! Your tips on how to film from home are extremely helpful! Thank you.
This is my first time looking at your channel and this video was very helpful for the meeting I have today. Whenever appropriate please also include tips that might be more specific to women of color. For example, your tips about direct window lighting -- as a dark-skinned woman, I NEED all of that lighting and opening up shades is an easy way to get it. Thanks again. This was very helpful.
Great information thanks for sharing and I do agree with everything you said, a few weeks ago I was on a group call and one lady was wearing a strapless dress and kept playing with her long hair. My first thought was are you kidding! Is she sitting there nude? She kept playing with her hair almost like she was posing for a photoshoot. It was so distracting I was not able to pay attention to the actual meeting and what was being said. There were times I was able to move her off the screenshot, but then she would reappear. I just wanted to log out of the meeting but of course was not able to. More people need to see your video. Thank You for sharing.
I had my first video chat with my daughter and two grandchildren. It was a surprise call and we are on quarantine but I was fully dressed and my hair was combed. I am 73 and I was horrified that I looked like an old crone. I finally told my daughter to send the kids out of the room because I was sure I was scaring them! Later, I worked with a pile of books to get my I pad out from under my chin and I will definitely put on eye makeup! Good tips for those of us who are still emerging from the Stone Age.
First time seeing one of your videos and love it! I have several friends who absolutely refuse to talk on FaceTime or any video chat. I definitely am sharing this and, fingers crossed, I’ll have a few more friends to video chat with! Thanks!!
I have a professional head shot that I have loaded to my Zoom profile for “those times” that I’m going to be doing something else during a video meeting. I “stay live” as much as possible, but can tap that “video off” switch when necessary. I’ve used that “Brady Bunch” analogy as well! Lol!
Thanks for the tips! Many of them are incredible helpful to men to! I now know why I always look like my eyes are closed. I needed to raise my laptop up a bit. Go figure.
This is photography lighting 101. Extreme side lighting is called "split light", when the one side falls into shadows. Light from below is called "ghoul light" because it makes you look like, well, a ghoul, l0l. The pillow case is reflecting the main light into the shadows like a reflector. The BEST light is from 45* to the side of the face and slightly above. Cheers!!
Thank you so much for making this video. I have been a homemaker for, let's just say a very long time. I am now doing Zoom for Bible study classes and am totally out of my element. My husband, on the other hand, is very familiar with conference calls and the such. You covered so many areas that were so informative for me. Some things I had thought of before, but others... And I am sure my husband would not have thought of all of those things. : ) So this was extremely beneficial for me! Thank you!!
Great tips! Any tips for those of us that have glasses. Also, I currently have a gamer headset (good sound and reliable) but its bulky, any suggestions?
You are very articulate and your examples are clear! Very well done! I have used the white strips before and they didn’t wrap around to my back teeth. Do you use two on at least the top teeth? Also how long do you leave them on and how often do you use them? Thank you! Of course I am asking because your teeth look so great! Very helpful information!
Thank you! I have never wrapped them around the back. I only use one on top and one on the bottom. I leave them on for 30 min. I use them 1-2 times a month.
Great video presented in a friendly and accessible way, so many tips that we need to know at this time of Zoom meetings. Thank you so much Bobbie, I really enjoyed the warm way you spoke throughout. Thanks again, take care
Hi Bobbie. First time to your channel. You are an absolute sweetheart! Genuine and down to earth...your kind heart shines through. Watching this video was like visiting with a dear friend. Thank you for the helpful tips! 💖
Great advice. Thanks for the information. Many of us working from home now find ourselves doing many video meetings daily. You had me at the pillow case 😝.
Thank you . It was nice to get your opinion on what not to do and where to get supplies. I am getting ready to start teaching classes on Zoom so this was very informative.
Thank you for the informative video! One other point is to look carefully at your clothes. I noticed something black on your beige sweater that was a bit ddistracting.
Bobbie, Thank you so much for the fabulous video presentation! You are an inspiration especially for the mature person. So cheerful and helpful. Keep up the great work. God Bless.
Bobbie, I am a new fan. This video came up "by chance" on my computer exactly a week ago and I found it to be so practical and so down-to-earth and so helpful, that I immediately watched about 10 other videos by you ... and joined WW ... and have lost four pounds! I am so glad to have you in my life as my new internet mentor/friend! My only question: is there a list of your episodes that I can watch from the beginning, so I don't miss a single one?
Thanks so much for all this information. I had my first zoom meeting today and was trying to figure out why I looked like I was taking up the screen. Thanks to all your wonderful tips I have some things to check on. Great video.!
Thank you, so much! That was so helpful! Our book club met on Zoom this month & I was not at all prepared. Next month will be much better. Also, face timing with grands will be more fun. You are a treasure! 💕😷💕
Great video. Love your natural smile. I’ve been working for years trying to develop a ‘natural’ smile...not there yet. Your tips are great though. Thanks for sharing.
If you think of something before the call that you like, for example puppies or babies, that can help relax your eyes and entire face into a softer expression.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your video!! I soooo needed this as I begin my journey online with Zoom. You covered everything and so down to earth and thank you for listing the items you use:)
I wish I had seen this video sooner. I did my first video call with my doctor yesterday. Ugh! I did practice with my daughter the day before and sat with a solid background so no clutter and I did fix my hair a bit but there are so many more useful tips in this video. I will be ready for the next one. Thank you, Thank you!
Thanks for the info! I'm doing a kind of comic cooking show for friends--hoping to go RUclips. Because I've got tract-house lighting in my kitchen, I'm thinking of using a bigger o-ring light. I definitely need the teeth whitener bc I drink so much coffee. I've been angling the camera high because I tend to double-chin. I really appreciate the tips, and you look like someone I'd enjoy meeting for coffee--That is, post-quarantine! :-)
I felt the same way and found an inexpensive camera filter that flat mounts over my laptop and phone cameras that evens out my skin (unevenness and wrinkles) so I feel more confident on my video calls. Think the 'Barbara Walters Effect' or do you remember 'Cybill Shepherd on Moonlighting'? @t. You can find it on Amazon, e-bay, etsy. I don't attend a video chat without mine!
Really nice video - super helpful tips! Ok, this may be a dumb question, but here goes: The camera on my computer is at the top of the monitor, so if I'm looking at the person speaking on the monitor, it looks as if I'm looking down. When I'm speaking, I presume I should speak to the camera - but what about when someone else is speaking? Should I look at their image on the monitor, or keep looking at the camera? Hope that makes sense!
I solve the problem by putting a bandaid over the camera lens...... Sitting behind a newspaper also works, hides pajamas! Seriously though, this is a wonderful video and you've shared a lot of helpful information, thank you.
Thank you for the comprehensive instructions on how to present ourselves in the best advantage on a video call. I'm 74 so my Zooming is social and with much younger people. Appreciate your help.
Thanks Bobbie for all the tips. I look forward to integrating them in my next RUclips Video: HealinmotionPT. The lighting tip and camera view were especially helpful! Be well!
Great information. What is the teeth whitening you use? One note on root touch up. L'Oreal is a major animal tester. I don't buy their products for that reason. Thank you.
I didn’t know that! I’m glad you mentioned it. I know some of my subscribers feel the same way you do. Do you have a suggestion of a similar product that is cruelty free?
@@MindfulMidlife I'm sorry I don't. I don't use root touch up and fortunately, I'm able to go at least 8 weeks before my gray really show, so fingers crossed I can head to the salon before I need it. :)
I'm in my 70's so I've never done any video conferencing before, but I find myself in that situation with my friends, Bible Study Group, and family. This was a huge help to me. I want to start a RUclips channel, but I'm daunted by the way I look. But your friendly easy to listen to manner is giving me courage. Thank you.
Go for it Tina! When you do, let me know so I can check it out!
Thanks for the awesome tips! I just got a ring light and I’m planning on trying to use it for my youtube videos. You’re awesome 👏🏼
I do zoom meetings several times a week. I use a laptop , my desk is against a wall. I have a ring light mounted on the wall in front of me and use a virtual background to mask my actual space. I also make use of the filter features in zoom or MS Teams😊
100% good info. I am on conference calls 6 hours a day, going back for years now. Every tip offered here is spot on great advice.
I've been astounded by how little thought some of my colleagues have put into how they look in virtual meetings - cameras pointing up people's noses, unmade beds in the background, etc. You gave a great collection of tips.
This is why I turn the video off and just listen.
Yes! I know-I agree

Lol!
Plus when you smile slightly it makes your face lines look more plump, younger, more flattering.
Thanks for the tips! Many of them are incredible helpful to men to! I now know why I always look like my eyes are closed. I needed to raise my laptop up a bit. Go figure.
Isn't it great that it's an easy adjustment? My husband is interviewing via video and I had to teach him too! Glad this was helpful!
I am 66 and just beginning training on videos. Thank you for all the tips.!
I’m so glad this was helpful Lorene!
This presentation was extremely useful to me. Thank you so much!! :-)
Thank you. Good info. You might also explore “electronic backdrops” that are featured on many apps like Zoom.
You look so great! This was so helpful.
Thank you!!
I’m so glad this will help you!
Hi Bobbie, thanks for this ... so informative. My real issue is that I don't know where to look. At myself? At the camera?
Haha, try to always look at the camera!
Thank you so much for this information! Would love to see a video of the bedroom. It is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Lori! I’ve shown it quite a few times in different videos but it’s still a work in progress.
Wow! Thank you for the hot tips! This is the first video I've seen of yours and you make me want to watch more... You're adorable.
I had my very first conference call a few weeks ago and wish I had seen your video beforehand. Excellent advice Bobbie.....thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I’m glad it was helpful to you.
These tips are ingenious :) Will definitely implement them :)
Thank you, now that so many of us are teaching from home, it's useful to learn some tips and tricks form people who film themselves all the time!
Great advice. Thanks for the information. Many of us working from home now find ourselves doing many video meetings daily. You had me at the pillow case 😝.
Thank you Bobbie, awesome tips! I will be ready for my Zoom call on Thursday.
Thank you . It was nice to get your opinion on what not to do and where to get supplies. I am getting ready to start teaching classes on Zoom so this was very informative.
I hope your classes have been going well!
Wow, thank you! I just found your channel and loved this video! I will watch your other videos for more tips!!!
Hi Patty! Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! These are really great tips.
Thank you for the informative video! One other point is to look carefully at your clothes. I noticed something black on your beige sweater that was a bit ddistracting.
I found this to be a really helpful video - thank you for taking the time to share everything in such detail.
Thank you for the video! I have a livestream cooking class on Zoom this week-end and I really appreciate the tips!
Bobbie, Thank you so much for the fabulous video presentation! You are an inspiration especially for the mature person. So cheerful and helpful. Keep up the great work. God Bless.
Thank you Marie! 💕
Your lighting tips are helpful and the best I have watched on RUclips. I definitely will use incorporate these.
Since I'm the minute taker for 80% of my Zoom calls, people look at the top of my head. Hahahahaha
Thanks so much for all this information. I had my first zoom meeting today and was trying to
figure out why I looked like I was taking up the screen. Thanks to all your wonderful tips I have some things to check on. Great video.!
Excellent reminders! 👍🏻👍🏻
I watched the video last night and I had my first Zoom meeting today! Thanks for the video it all really helped!
Thank you, so much! That was so helpful! Our book club met on Zoom this month & I was not at all prepared. Next month will be much better. Also, face timing with grands will be more fun. You are a treasure! 💕😷💕
What a nice thing to say , I wish someone thought I was a treasure lol xx
Hello Bobbie I left a message but forgot to ask what colour your hair is and where from xx
You will blow your book club away with how amazing you look! 🤗 Thank you!
Tracy, you ARE a treasure! All human life is a treasure- never forget that! 🥰
Not a clue what color. Naturally medium brown and a I have highlights put in. Ha, that’s all I know. 🤷♀️
Great video. Love your natural smile. I’ve been working for years trying to develop a ‘natural’ smile...not there yet. Your tips are great though. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Judi!
If you think of something before the call that you like, for example puppies or babies, that can help relax your eyes and entire face into a softer expression.
I love that suggestion!
LOVE LOVE LOVE your video!! I soooo needed this as I begin my journey online with Zoom. You covered everything and so down to earth and thank you for listing the items you use:)
I am so happy this is helpful! I hope your calls are successful!
I’m so glad this will be helpful!! Have fun in these crazy new ways of communicating.
I thought the sheet trick was awesome and made a huge difference
Yes...and... it’s... FREE! 😃
What kind of teeth whitener?
I felt the same way and found an inexpensive camera filter that flat mounts over my laptop and phone cameras that evens out my skin (unevenness and wrinkles) so I feel more confident on my video calls. Think the 'Barbara Walters Effect' or do you remember 'Cybill Shepherd on Moonlighting'? @t. You can find it on Amazon, e-bay, etsy. I don't attend a video chat without mine!
Excellent tips! Subscribed! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I think you go between the two as evenly as possible.
I solve the problem by putting a bandaid over the camera lens...... Sitting behind a newspaper also works, hides pajamas! Seriously though, this is a wonderful video and you've shared a lot of helpful information, thank you.
😂
Really really good advice, thank you for such an amazing video :-) Lots of love from Australia :-)
Thank you very much.
Be well!
Thank you, I'm so glad they were helpful!
I am curious about the teeth whitener too. I haven’t seen it listed yet. I must say her teeth look beautiful !! 💞
@@MindfulMidlife I'm sorry I don't. I don't use root touch up and fortunately, I'm able to go at least 8 weeks before my gray really show, so fingers crossed I can head to the salon before I need it. :)
We are all doing some crossing of fingers these days!
It’s just Crest white strips-gentle routine.
