    Liana…You are such a good mom. I know you struggle with whether or not you’re a good mother. That’s completely understandable, as us mom second guess ourselves. But you are doing an amazing job. You verbalize colors, shapes, and sounds to encourage visual and audio understanding. Whenever you are doing things, you tell him what you’re doing so he is familiar with multiple concepts. You include Koazy in your daily tasks and extra projects so he feels included. Everything you’ve been doing is preparation for a well rounded child who understands himself and his role within his surroundings.
    He’s already so smart, and it’s because of everything you’re doing. I just wanted you to know how proud I am of you for everything you’re doing. Please continue to be an encouraging and supportive mommy. You’re doing a excellent job!

      I’m in Europe and have screens on my outward opening windows.
      They attach to the window frame with Velcro and have an opening in the centre from top to bottom. The opening allows me to put my hand through to operate the handle, and it is magnetised to itself so it falls closed again when I take my hand out.
      They’re super cheap, available on Amazon, and absolutely compatible with European windows.

    I am a Fire and Lifesafety Inspector. Mold is a serious issue, but if the source can be verified, remediation is fairly simple, unless it has spread into the walls and into the
    Insulation. Spread inside walls and void spaces can force major renovation of affected areas.
    That being said, in minor surface mold cases, cleaning, sealing and repainting affected areas is normally all that needs to be done. Make sure you have a good heating and cooling system to make sure excessive humidity and moisture can be controlled mechanically. That includes mechanical ventilation fans in all bathrooms.

  • @aliceash396
    @aliceash396 10 месяцев назад +27

    Hey lovelies! I dealt with combatting mould for years in my old place. In the bedroom, the mould under the window is likely from where your curtains hang which creates a patch that doesn't get enough ventilation so the moisture just stays there - we had this and we had to trim our curtains so they didn't hang against the wall so much. Regarding opening the windows, you can get bug screens which will help with the bugs. We would open ours for half an hour and then close them to keep the heat in, or just have them open a crack through the day. Try to leave gaps between furniture and walls especially exterior walls and soft furnishings like bed/sofa. Keep on with using the dehumidifer around the house. The stronger extractor fan in the bathroom is a good idea, and also after you've showered keep the fan on and the bathroom door shut so that all that moisture gets effectively sucked out rather than being able to leak into the hallways and other rooms. Go around in the morning and wipe down condensation off the windows (you can also use a shower vac for this! Love a gadget - plus using the shower vac in the bathroom after your shower can help too). Use anti-mould paint in any areas that you can (after removing the mould)

    • @MrsYukke
      @MrsYukke 10 месяцев назад +8

      Best advice I've seen. In Germany opening all windows and doors once to twice a day for 5 to 10 min is very common to prevent mold. The heat stays in the walls if you only open in that short amount of time. I also think that spot behind the curtain is because of low ventilation.
      Also, what helped us was to put a special plaster on the walls. It' called mineral plaster which is breathable and absorbs and evaporates the water in the air. Also mold can't grow in it because of its ph level.
      But obviously it's expensive to just replaster the walls..
      An other thing which would help is to put hygrometer in every room. There you can read your current level of water in the air and know when to open your windows. The level should stay under 60%

    As a person in the US with screens on every window, ladybugs will still file in every fall, but most everything else stays out & the pets stay in! I realize they're strangely uncommon in other countries, but they are essential IMO. Anyway, perhaps they're an option for you, and make sure your windows are sealed and insulated as well. I've dealt with mold before so I know how you feel, and it's totally normal to just feel a bit unwell in this situation. Don't worry, there is always a solution, and you guys will be just fine. You have a beautiful home and family. Hang in there! 😊

      Dehumidifiers work wonders! I lived in a basement that had issues with the foundation and root bound pipes. We ran a dehumidifier all day, every day to combat all the water in the air. Some days we would empty it twice a day, but it does help a lot despite the extra hassle. You can also get magnetic screens for your windows if you want something more temporary

If she’s concerned she can take another test to see if her levels are changed. But unfortunately blood work results aren’t a provider’s opinion and won’t change from provider to provider. But I do think a second panel being done would be helpful.

    • @melissametivier4
      @melissametivier4 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Sarah-uu6wo the answer I've heard is it's because of the weather. It's either too cold or too wet for the windows to be open most of the time, so screens aren't considered necessary. In the midwest US (where I'm from) there's a screen on just about every openable window.

    • @Sarah-uu6wo

      @melissametivier4 im in Az and we have window screens and then solar screens over the whole thing! Due to our weather we cant open the windows a good portion of the year either. I cant imagine never being able to do so without letting in a ton of dust and insects though. I've heard that European windows are way better at insulation though so Im surprised that they are having so much moisture and mold. I wonder if they have tried dehumidifiers?

    • @Itsmyownmind
      @Itsmyownmind 10 месяцев назад +2

      Window screens aren’t the norm in the uk, I think because we don’t get the amount of bugs you could get in a hotter climate.
      I’m in a fairly new house, 18 yrs old but the windows that were put in by the builder are not really that good, sound proofing is poor but they are draft free.
      I think opening windows and airing the house is not necessarily a UK thing but it’s a good habit to start even if it’s just an hr a day.

    I had undiagnosed health problems for years, especially after having kids. For some reason, I just could not get better, and I felt sick and exhausted. If you’re bendy (double jointed or hypermobile), it might be Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which can come with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome - intolerance for standing still, racing heart when standing or going up stairs), and MCAS. Basically, these are conditions that are hard to test for, make routine tests come back normal, and get dismissed as health anxiety. Worth checking out if you’re at all hypermobile. I think your struggles are real, and you’re doing a good job.

After my first I was able to come off my meds for 3 years until I had my next baby and since then I have been on medication. People are scared of taking medication but when you find the right one it helps you to be you without all the horrible anxiety and in my case depression too.

    My advice for you guys is to buy a dehumidifier, a dehumidifier sucks up all the moisture from the air. Since mold likes to grow on moisture maybe if you decrease the moisture the mold won’t grow. I would buy one dehumidifier and place it in the worst part of the room to test the results and if no mold grows by more for other parts of the house. I hope 🤞 the dehumidifier works for you guys.
    The one I have is:
    GE
    35 pt. Dehumidifier with Smart Dry for Bedroom, Basement or Very Damp Rooms up to 3000 sq. ft. in White, ENERGY STAR
    I would also suggest you guys to buy an Indoor Humidity Monitor which tracts the humidity in the air just to make sure the humidity in you are isn’t too dry and it’s where it need to be; no less then 30% and no more then 50% of humidity in your air.

    Connor, look into getting a couple dehumidifiers they work by pulling the extra moisture from the air. I'm sure that Amazon carries them in a few different sizes for multiple size rooms. We only use one in the winter when the humidity goes up inside it really helps.

    For your windows, idk if you have these already, but you could look onto getting screens. That may help to keep the bugs out while you ventalate your house 😁

    The biggest tip I can give is I was going through mold in my current house and u should keep the windows open for 6-7 hours a day (with blinds that can still keep ventilation, because of the cats ofc)and make sure you wipe window sills every 2 days to make sure the mole doesn't come back and do a deep clean every month (ik you already moved but it's just tips for the future)

    A little tip about Lady bugs, take a plastic sandwich bag fill half way with baby powder tape to windows leaving one side open, it will fill with ladybugs in no time. I live in a old farm house and have similar troubles.
    Hope this helps

    As for open windows, get screens for the windows. Keeps the cats in & the bugs out.
    Try having fan in the room to keep air circulating and drier. I live on the coast and a dehumidifier is a must for some of the rooms whose air circulation isn't up to par.
    😂😂😂 I'm sorry, I'm laughing at your pronunciations of some of the the medical terminology. (I'm an OB nurse) My hubby, every so often, reminds me to not talk in "medical-ese"

    You've got a woodstove right?
    Those give out the dryest heat there is! Fire it up super hot, and open the windows if it's too hot. Also, don't put any furniture or curtains onto the outer wall, if the insulation is poorly there will get moisture in there.

    Oh my godddd, the end is the exact conversation I have with my husband for years..... When we wake up same time and sleep both the same amount. I'm completely exhausted by the evening and he doesn't feel anything. When I sleep 2 hours more than him, then we match with energy levels all day. Somehow he also functions with 5 hours of sleep, I would feel like a zombie. And he sleeps in random times like in front of TV and such, but I need a quiet dark room at night with uninterrupted sleep to be able to rest.. Seems it's common

    Women in fact do need more sleep. About 10-12 hours and men need about 6-8. Lack of needed sleep drastically effects your hormones and natural rhythms as well as increases cortisol levels when negatively impacts women more than men.

    If possible I highly suggest contacting a fenestration company to actually test your windows for leaks. My husband works for a fenestration company and they remove the windowsill to check for water damage and they isolate the window in a pressure chamber like thing and hit it with pressurized water and if the test strip on the inside tests positive for water infiltration that window and frame have to be replaced. 50% or higher failure rate and all windows are deemed as needing replaced.

    Check the curtain in the bed room for mold. If air is not able to circulate aka trapped behind a curtain it can create a moldy area. We live in an older home and learned this the hard way. We also make sure the is air space behind furniture using small wood blocks. Good luck!

    Guys I get mould on my bedroom ceiling. It gets worse when the room is cold. I leave open the vent in the window. 2 little de humidifiers on 24/7 and the plastic ones you can get easily on amazon or pound shop etc. what I did find was all the insulation stuff had come off from around the outside window frames. My son got his squirt gun and sealed all around and I have practically no mould or condensation round my windows now. It’s surprising how much moisture goes into the dehumidifiers. No wet bed in the mornings either. Also liana glad tests came back with nothing serious maybe make appt with gp and get them to explain the test results. If you have hormone issues get it all sorted incase you want another baby in the future. I like the nail colour to. Xx

    Speaking as the wife of a contractor, it appears the windows are not properly sealed & it’s allowing moisture into the house. You can buy some splodge to seal around the frames of the windows and you may want to look into have an industrial humidifier installed into the hvac system

    If there is mold spotting like that, it is already in the entire wall(s). It just so happens to be showing/popping up more in certain areas. That is not okay. This situation should be grounds to break your lease & get your deposit back (If that is how it works in the UK). Koazy is too young to be breathing that in everyday in his little 1 year old lungs, which can cause other issues. God forbid, I pray that does not ever happen. But, better be safe than sorry. Mold is labeled as dangerous for a reason. You're best bet is to move, again, as much as it sucks.

    Just some advice with mould, try no to open the window if it’s also damp outside as it will just increase the damp inside. Best thing to do is just to keep it warm and dry. I recommend using your fire as that’s the best heat

    Hey you lovely lot! Top tips from me growing up in a house prone to damp;
    Don't have furniture up against outside walls, instead have it half a foot away so the air can circulate better.
    Wipe the worst affected areas in the morning with a cloth to get as much moisture as possible, followed by a hairdryer on hot and fast mode towards it.
    Always open up the bathroom window the widest possible before you get in the shower, and leave it to air for a good while after the shower.
    Get a window vacuum - I imagine you guys have a lot of condensation on your windows in the morning? Kärcher do a good window vac, again do that first thing in the morning. Put the windows on latch for 30 mins after this too. (Coldest part of our day tends to be the night so you may find mositure is worst then).
    Keep up with the de-humidifiers.
    And then regarding the rain making it the worst for you, sounds like crappy insulation/building work. Insulation can be re-done or filled in.
    You're doing fab guys x

    Buy some temporary window screens. They are adjustable for width and even height and stay in the window with the help of the window itself. Also, do you have dehumidifiers in the UK?

    Have a look at mosquito nets for outside of the windows! I live in Italy and totally get not opening your windows for bugs! But most houses here have a mesh outside them window so you can still open them without the bugs getting in. There's loads of different solutions for indoor and outdoor ones on Amazon etc!

    Make sure you caulk around all the window trim. Also attic fans can be installed for ventilation. Do you have water in your crawl space or in your basement...if so sump pumps can be installed..it's so sad you guys are going through this.

    Very easy and boiled down version to explain the sleep thing. Biological males have a 24 hour hormonal cycle , Biological females have a 21 to 28 day hormonal cycle. Some weeks we need more others less. Just depends on what stage of your cycle you are at.
    There is a lot more to it obviously but a very easy to understand versio would be that which I wrote.
