#PlatinumBlonde #StandingInTheDark
Lyrics:
We walk in circles, destined to collide
Which way is up, I never could decide
But when I'm down, you're like a parasite
You take my breath and you fall out of sight
Maybe I'll run and hide
Tomorrow change my mind
Until then it's suicide
Every night and every single day
Controls my dreams, I don't know what to say
You turn to the left, I turn to the right
You won't come in the sun, it's far too bright
Maybe you'll run and hide
Tomorrow change your mind
Until then it's suicide
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
Systems red, we switch to overload
Defcon Five, we're ready to explode
You think we're humble, we take no prisoners
You drop that bomb, they'll be no prisoners
Maybe we'll run and hide
Tomorrow change our minds
Until then it's suicide
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
But it's not the first one
Standing in the dark
Standing in the dark
Maybe I'll run and hide
Tomorrow change my mind
Until then it's suicide
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
Standing in the dark
This could be our last mistake
Standing in the dark
Standing in the dark
Standing in the dark
Standing in the dark
Standing
Standing
In the dark, dark, dark
This is an actually excellent, well-lasting song. It should be far more respected in Canadian music history.
This and Doesn't Really Matter are both excellent songs
There's a lot more in common between early Platinum Blond and Skinny Puppy than would first appear.
@@marcusleja7133 I can defiently see that despite Platinum Blonde's Duran Duran appearance they had a lot more edge to their songs then most New Wave acts. Another band that's similar IMO as more edgey sounding new wave is an American band called Missing Persons it's kind of like Platinum Blonde only gender swapped lol
Not in Love as well
Why wasn’t that bigger?
it was a huge hit and remains the skeleton on what they tour on. Why do filler people act like this stuff is obscure just because they dont have a clue?
2023 - this type of REAL music will always live on.
2024 now and seeing them tonight in Halifax with Billy Idol! So excited!
I wonder if my Platinum Blonde fan club subscription is still valid? This was my favourite band in the 80's
Me too
Saw them in concert with Corey Hart. What a night!
I remember when MTV started played their videos. I thought that they were great - I never understood why they didn't cross over to the American market!
Reliving my youth let's goooo 🎊❣️🤣
First concert for me at Canada's wonderland
@@charlottewalker6854 I went to the $5 concert series at Kingwood Music Theatre concert too. Also met Chris Steffler and Sergio Galli on the line up for the MineBuster as I recognized them beside my sister and I when the ride was broken down for half an hour. They signed my tickets and we chatted about the concert etc.
Worst case Ontario, freedom of music
@@mjrussell414 awesome! 🤗
Still holds up in 2023! So happy I lived through this period in music. It really was a magical time, "New Wave" from Europe with U2, Thompson Twins, Thomas Dolby. PD, Spoons and other new Canadian bands, CD's just new. We'd be waiting for the newest video to drop on Much Music and we were EXCITED for it. All this music not only on the radio but at the arcade!
This classic 80s hit song by PB Plantinum Blonde 👱♂️ Standing in the Dark doesn't really matter, and many others should have been worldwide hits, not just in Canada. USA, UK etc.
I like the song standing in the dark by platinum blonde I hope more make comments on this because I would like to hereback from you soon, see you later and have a nice day and may god bless you with love because he is the only one that takes care of us at all times and if you have faith in god then you will have his word as well and if you read the bible that would be the best thing you could do in life.
I appreciate Platinum Blonde more now at age 58 then I did back then, sorry guys but I love you even more!!!! XOXOXOXO
was just thinking the same thing.............what we didnt like back then is great compared to much of modern music
Saw Platinum Blonde back in the 80's and again a few years ago. They still sounded great!
Seen a couple groups who stood the test of time.
April wine/ rip miles
And Nazareth.
20-25 years apart and they STILL HAD THE PIPES and the bands instruments, just kicking ass.
Not younger guys playing the music either, very cool they could still perform like when I saw them in the 80's
PLATINUM BLONDE fucking rule, seen them Live, Mark Holmes Voice is STILL amazing & 1 of the most unique voices in ROCK History!!!
Go CRIMP your MULLET in celebration then!!
PLATINUM BLONDE are exactly what they are (GOAT CANADIAN 1980's ROCK)
Classic Canada early 80's. I was a little boy then, these guys were huge here.
i am 59 seen them in Concert in 1982
@@marblesrichard I am 54 today and didn’t see them that early, but went to the 1984 Nathan Phillips Square concert, the Kingswood $5 concert series concert at Canada’s Wonderland (where I met Chris Steffler and Sergio Galli in the line for the MineBuster ride which broke down so we chatted for over half and hour and they signed my tickets), and a New Year’s Eve concert at Maple Leaf Gardens. Later in the early 90’s, I used to hang out with Kenny Maclean as my sister was dating one of his band members - he was such a wonderful guy - a big, generous personality. Asked me if I wanted to meet Mark Holmes who was playing pool nearby and I croaked No because sister dearest had just been embarrassing me with tales of how I had a teenage crush on him. What a shy stupid idiot I was back then.
2022 and still a great tune
I remember bags of chips in the mid-late 80s had stickers inside of these guys, Platinum Blonde, Duran Duran, Honeymoon Suite, etc.
Maybe that was an easy coast thing? Hostess Potato Chips, ?!
Anybody remember those??
Totally man 😂🤘
What a fkn banger
2024 , 40 fekkin years ago and still holding it!!!!!!!!
Now that I know this song was written right after Mark saw the film 'Threads' this video make much more sense.
Who would have thought that a song about nuclear annihilation would be so relevant in 2022?
Stay safe everyone.
Thanks Jack Fm for introducing me to all the 80’s gems from Canada 🔥
I saw these guys back in the 80,s in st catherines ontario.
My home town..
My cousins lived in Port Colborne. I loved going to St Catherines. Really nice town.
@@19DARKNIGT69 i went to denis morris secondary school in early 80s….and many bars….gords and shooters, the russell, faces, copperfields to name a few.
@@MrHabs66 yep 100%.
i found this cassete tape in the seat of my school bus @ 1983,,,...i showed it to by brothers,,.my oldest got it of me for 25 cents,..true story. then i saw then later in Lethbridge Alberta , they threw huge balloons over the crowd. i was on my dads shoulders. i remember all the lighters trying to pop them.
A good Canadian Rock band, thanks for posting this song.
Great song, and im from 2012! Some little boys/girls can still love the oldtimer ish music eh? Yeah.
I was never a fan, I actually got to meet them outside of North Sydney, N.S., when there bus broke down in 88, BIG FAN since, really nice guys
Heavy, DEEP BASE , w killer lyrics and guitar picking that's juss ol' school , timeless rock .
Extremely talented blend and played/ cranked decades later. Love em
Great Canadian group yes and did lots super songs 🎵 on radio for years like this one and enjoy growing up with them to!
I love this song I been playing this everyday since I was 6 years old and now I'm 12
You have some good taste then young sir, well done.
@@snarlyshot thank you so much I got it all from my dad growing up
Ew
Wow.!! Platinum Blonde takes me back to my Teenage years in the Bronx 80’s
These guys have a run of great songs that puts them in Canada’s top 5 all time. No respect at all!
The girl at the 3 minute mark won a contest on CBC Video Hits and got to be in the video clip.
Yes!!! I was just going to write that comment!! It was shown on the Canadian show “Thrill of a Lifetime” - it was her wish to be in a Platinum Blonde video. She was the one coming up from the glass table. I remember watching that very show as a kid - Lol. I’ve tried to find the episode on RUclips but nothing there.
Finally a good quality video!!!!
Such an underrated band.
Their City Hall show is Toronto Legend.
This was what my 14 year-old self rocked out to and today’s my birthday so I’m rocking out to old faves I haven’t revisited in many years. I even joined their fan club and bought tri-colour gold earrings they designed and sold to go with my 16 year-old black eyeliner with teased hair Alien Shores look. The boys noticed me in high school the very day I wore my new look for the first time. No joke, but then I was super cute and cool. Still am…
Sergio was our neighbour in Mississauga, Canada. Blew my mind when I found this out, wish my parents were still in touch with him.. I was 2 lol (1992)
Gen x baby
You think we're humble, we take NO prisoners..LOVE these cats. Heavy bass, great guitar, drums played on staccato drums and a front man with a killer voice..Timeless
Great song! Heard this for the first time in Windsor, ON
There were a bunch of "bald is the look" videos coming out of Toronto in the 80s and early 90s. I never did get to the bottom of that.
The bald guys WERE THE GOV. SCREWS, THE GOV YES MEN who got their jobs due to conformity, not brains. I know cuzz my hairs still LONG after 61 years an I seen a LOT of clean cut IDIOTS that couldn't get the same number in a row counting their own balls 😮
Love this Band.

OMG work up this morning with this ear worm chorusing in my head.. throw back 80s to big hairi and beautiful mullets!
I have always enjoyed this song!! It's definitely a classic!
Saw them open for Billy idol in edmonton, what a show i loved it, first time seeing them sing and perform im happy i discovered another great band :) that concert brought me here to watch all songs :)
my ear worm for 30+ years
I went to see them at the old Quebec Coliseum. They just lip-synched to both sides of the record. Song after song. But it was still fun, 'cause the girl I was with REALLY liked them and that got me points... When you are 16 and getting frisky, THAT COUNTS! But I was a preppy back then and I'd never seen so much hairspray and tight, Jordache jeans in my life.
Im still groovin, can 80's and i love that trailer park boys included these guys
Sounds like the Police with more new wave and pop feel. She uod if been a really big hit.
This song was definitely influenced by the Cold War. Circa 1983 when the Soviet Union's leaders kept dropping dead and were convinced that Reagan wanted nothing less than to annihilate them. Standing in the dark indeed.
They just got the DEFCON system backwards, unless they were going for irony.
Better dead than red. Yha, back then, as I was 21, we let em know, WERE NOT WEAK...YOU WANNA FN GO? ANYTIME...
WE DONT DEAL FROM A WEAK HAND SO EITHER FIGHT/ WAR OR BACK THE F OFF...
Still love listening some of his songs
Good song
sooo good!
I was wondering when they were going to create a Vevo page?
They have like 2 or 3 pages. This one is the newest. The singer Mark Holmes has a personnal channel but it's really inactive... He just answered to some comments under Platinum Blonde videos. Here's his channel : ruclips.net/channel/UCFWgPhQNpCP8bQCBI0UHvKQ
I don't guarantee that's it's him but I belive that it is.
@@RockRemastered Thanks!
Was this guy english? I always thought he had a british accent
Yes he was from Mansfield, England.
So much style. What would you guys think of building a VR experience (world) based on these looks and the sound and energy? And an endless stream of NEW MUSIC that has that same essence? Since VR is right around the corner, I think that would be a world that I would like to enter into...and create within. I could help you with all of it: music, style, design, 3D modeling, etc. Obviously, it would require some funding. But once ready, APPLE could offer it as a WORLD within their UNIVERSE.... And your new records in ATMOS...
The singer was the cousin of a friend of mine.
They be prophesying and warning to the world before we even knew
Here in 2025❤
Canadian Duran duran
This could be your last mistake…
But it's not the first one
God I miss the 80s,70s...22 sucks!!
ikr
Trailer park boys xmas special bring me here
Canada's answer to Duran Duran.
Was this song on Stranger Things, I can't remember.
No, but it should have been!

Nope - that's Crying Over You (and the lesser known Holy Water)
