  • It's been a little bit since I've done a quick down and dirty proof of life/overview of an install. Certainly, things have been getting done here...just slower due to a full time job and two young children.
So continuing with my very popular 'poorly shot, horribly narrated, terribly edited' video series, I present to you:
Installation of ESU LokSound in a N scale Kato F40PH Amtrak phase III locomotive with strobe lights added.
Model was dismantled and lubricated, a 11x17 speaker and 3d printed housing was installed. ESU 58941 'Kato Widebody' board was utilized. Golden white LED added for headlight, rear light wired from a piece of scrap Kato light board. cab interior and glass was removed, holes for beacons slightly cored out to take a 0402 warm white smled, which was glued in place, then painted silver on the inside. Cab and windows slid back in place. Strobe lights wired to a resistor bank made of 4700 ohm dropping resistors and wired on aux3 and aux4. Sound file S0530 loaded and lighting and motor control re function mapped and tested as appropriate.
If you have any questions, feel free end me a message over on facebook or email me as I don't always see questions in the comments.

Screaming like a screamer does. Love the F40ph! Nice work with the strobes!

That looks better than I thought it would. I did the beacon on my metra and I was considering doing the strobes on my VRE, but I opted to just do the emergency light on that model. I have digitrax and TCS in those two models so I'm a bit limited on lighting outputs and normally I do Soundtraxx for sound engines since I like the Dynamic Exhaust feature.

    I love the "craptastic" videos!

I like how you used just one dropping resistor for the U+. Is that because only one strobe led is on at a time?

@blayzslayr87-221 there are two surface mount resistors on a scrap piece of PCB. Each 4700 ohm and connected to the red (+) then both tied into a single (+) blue wire back to the decoder

Where did you get the plastic strobes at
