I love how original ultimate imprint was aimed at a teen audience, and this seems aimed at a more adult audience. And that audience being the people who were teens in the original run.
Got to say this story where Peter learned about who he’s was supposed to be and to have the chance to regain his destiny as Spider-Man and to have him choose to want to become who he’s supposed to be is amazing
At this point, im a little hopeful yet extremely worried for whats to come. Who knows how they're gonna handle this run, i just hope that he keeps his stability.
This Spider-Man will have it worse than any other. For one, if The Maker is the big bad, he’ll know all about Peter. And the best way to hurt him. It’s pretty much inevitable that Peter’s family is gonna get hurt in some way. When that happens, it won’t be because Peter chose not to act, (the way it cost Uncle Ben his life) it won’t be because he wasn’t fast enough or strong enough to stop a bad guy in a situation that was beyond his control, it will be because he willingly made a choice to become this. To become Spider-Man. This is the Ultimate Universe, which has always meant the writers could go as dark and drastic as they want, free of consequences. This the real life version of The Makers plot in story form. The Maker is the writers inserting themselves into the story.
Stuff like this is exactly why people find it so hard to get into marvel. It's ultimate spiderman, but not THAT ultimate spiderman? So there's just 2 completely different comic series with the exact same name that are in no way related to each other? It's like marvel is just doing everything they can to add onto the problem.
Man I hope they don't fuck this one up. They're actually breaking the status quo in a genuinely interesting manner, sure hope there is no sudden multiverse bullshit to suddenly break the entire thing and leave fans with the ashes of a potentially great conclusion.
We will always have our favorite story line of Spidey. So I'm happy to let a new version/variant into our sights. Im also glad it is grounded too and not some whacky outlandish variant. And finally ,extremely refreshing that we get an adult version, instead of starting from scratch as a teen. I've been telling friends for years we need a live action movie where he is an established Spider-Man. Where he knows what he's capable of and can flourish on the big screen. Maybe this new ultimate rendition can show how an adult would handle these new abilities. Rather then the previous, hormone raging, high school finals worried, doesn't even know what life is teen. I may just invest in this series. And its been a while since ive done that-
Okay so, if I'm understanding this right: This universe was the same for Peter as the original Ultimate comics EXCEPT for him getting his powers and losing Uncle Ben when he was 15. No Green Goblin, no freeing the symbiote with Eddie, no Hulk, no Avengers ever formed or partied with George W Bush. No Ultimatum. Everything is just... normal (Mostly. It seems like a few fantastical things have happened, but more sporadically and with a darker twist). Until right now. So he was still a teenager in 200X with a flannel shirt and a Leo haircut, Uncle Ben still had that ponytail, Peter went to Highschool with MJ and everything, but without the spider bite things just... kept going on normally. Now Peter is a 35 year old millennial with an office job and even Ben eventually moved up in the world and cut the ponytail off to better fit into an office environment after transitioning from blue collar to white collar (So if he was like 50s-60s in the 2000s he'd be 70-80 now, makes sense what with the retirement age getting higher and higher). But at one point in these characters' lives they *were* the people we met in the original Ultimate Spider-Man #1. The idea of that gives me absolute chills for some reason. I haven't geeked out about a comic like this in a long time, this series is looking so freaking good. Really excited for more issues. Also I'm kinda geeking out about the possibility of Matt Murdock the blind priest becoming Daredevil at some point. Could you imagine him using his church as a hideout and being conflicted about his oath vs what he's doing? So many possibilities aaaahhhh
One major detail that's different is that Peter's parents seem to have died when he was 15. So by the time he was originally supposed to be bitten by the spider, he had also just been adopted by Ben and May
If the authors are able to tell a story where peter is able to get ahead by making responsible decisions and modeling a healthy family dynamic, i'm all in. But like the sentiment in what several others have commented, i'm not holding my breath. One thing that worried me a little is how flat (or maybe i think "same-y") all the characters sound. they all talk like each other. The exposition was a little ham-fisted as well, but it's a pilot chapter trying to catch us up to speed on this version of events. Other than that, it has the makings of a really unique spider-story
I feel like he’s gonna be a more brutal Spider-Man since he’s older, a family man, and has so much to lose. He probably won’t be as forgiving for someone to come back
Don't like that Tony is once again forging Spidermans origin, but I'd be lying if I said this was a good start. Looking forward to seeing what comes next

6:04, With Harry’s obviously remaining bitter over his father’s death and openly refusing to just “live with it”, he is currently the biggest suspect the story has given to this Goblin’s identity. And his failure to successfully kill Fisk with that explosion and him opting to retreat instead of attacking again can suggest he isn’t exactly an expert assassin, just a man with access to advanced equipment (and perhaps an augmented physicality if he also had access to some version of the Goblin Formula) he has only recently begun using, which would further support the theory of this being Harry.
I’m so shocked and am in love with this idea. The human connections in this issue on top of the alternate friendship points are chef’s kiss. THIS is why we love comics. Those inspiring lines from Ben and MJ.

It's good that they're still putting thought into revising Peter Parker for future audiences. That's the only Spiderman that will ever exist as far as I'm concerned. Too much nostalgia to mess with.
THat's quite a refreshing look on SPider-man. Originally Peter was "forced" into the life of superhero through just one accident and this also made his life miserable. Here he had quite a satisfying life with woman he loved and with kids that he also loves, his Uncle is alive, his boss is not an asshole, and yet he CHOSE to be Spider-Man. It's refreshing, it's interesting and I kinda want to see where this will go. I just hope that Marvel won't be a usual prick to Peter and make his ife miserable again.
I think it's a fun idea. And probably more geared toward older fans, who haven't been kids in a few decades? I've always liked Peter being a little older.
So far......i got some mixed feelings but it seems good until how he got the spider. I like how they're giving him a new sorta direction compare to others by keeping his family alive so far along with how jameson and peter are like friends which is refreshing then "PARKER! I want pictures of spiderman, WITHIN THE HOUR!" I feel like some weird ironman popping up with the spider felt cheap, underserving, and wasted potential of character build up and world building. Maybe im wrong but I am hoping they make this spiderman good as so far I'm enjoyed it in this video.
I felt the exact same way. I personally hated this origin. The og story was meaningful. This? This is more like fairy godmother arrives to give our bored protagonist a ticket to a cooler life (to satisfy his ego). More wish fulfillment than the hero finally making the right decision after initially taking the path of ego. (That, fellow Spidey fans, is what truly set peter parker apart from other heroes. He was morally flawed from the getgo, making him much more human as a result.) But we are sadly in the minority. Everyone seems wild about the "you're a wizard, Harry" approach. I am not. It's cheap.
@@NaveaDraws yeah agreed, they could of done something else on how he got the spider instead of "yo petes we heard you wanted to be a hero, well marvel needs spiderman so here you go." There isn't much on motivation either for him to be spiderman. A scenario I could make would be like Jameson wanting to stop the kingpin curroption and asks Peter to come with him to find evidence(since he is a professional journalist in this story) and thus leading to a case where he gets bitten on his way to expose king pin.
@gayema664 See my question is why Pete is even a journalist here. I thought science was his passion. The only reason he started working at the Bugle was he felt it was a way to cash in a bit on being Spider-Man. Journalism wasn't his thing. See, when they said Peter was getting back with MJ - I thought Peter Parker would be back with MJ. Oh, wait he was never spider-man. OK. What about his interests and personality? Did he get a decent career in science and technology? No? No stem inclinations? Ok. What about Uncle Ben just being a down to earth guy - ah no, he's a media mogul, wearing suit and tie, knowing how to navigate that world of power and money. Actual ultimate Ben would never trust a man in a suit. That's gone. This "Peter Parker" has no story that resembles any recognizable incarnation. No hard lessons or challenges that push him to make a decision within himself to change. No motivation to be a hero other than "yeah, life is good, but I'm bored with my decent humdrum life and I want more." What the hell is this? And everyone's eating it up? A nice white man (who happens to be named Peter Parker) has a hot redhead wife who happens to be called (MJ). I guess that's literally all these "fans" wanted.
@@NaveaDrawsit's a cool alternative take, and then problem with people like you is you want too know the entire story from the beginning instead of letting them tell it naturally, we don't need an issue filled with a ton of exposition right off the bat
@Supersonicspyro ?? "People like me" - Are you talking to... me? Show, not tell is always storytelling rule number one, in my view. Where did you get this idea about me? Do you even know what exposition is? In response to your point, yeah it's alternative. That's fine. So are Miguel and Miles. Just getting tired of people saying this is THE way, the correct way, we get true resolution for 616 or Bendis -run Ultimate Peter. I disagree with that big time. This guy, who happens to be caucasian with brown hair, named Peter Parker, is a completely unrecognizably different character, unconnected to either of those realities or Spider-Man's origin, let along history. If you hate or do not care deeply about 616 or 2000s Ultimate Peter Parker's origin (or their histories), then I understand why none of that matters to some readers. Going into this the whole hype was: buy this comic! It's the only way we'll see 616 Peter back with MJ with kids. For me, Peter being a flawed (i.e. human) character, initially choosing selfishness and apathy, only to learn his responsibility to others, was amazing to me. Take that away, and you have a weightless character. This Peter is more like, "I'm bored with my decent but humdrum life and want more. The wondrous transdimensional being shows up tells me, "you're a wizard, Harry. Here are your superpowers." It's quite different and more in line with Power Rangers, Harry Potter, or pick your isekai or magical girl anime, all of which I appreciate. Feels really weird on "Peter Parker." Finally, please don't bash me and others like me for not immediately crowning this one issue as evidence of the greatest thing to happen to Spider-man comics in decades.
Well he's married to his Sister MJ and has kids with her in this universe. So i dont know. The writers have all the cards to F him up since this version of Peter has kids, Sister-Wife, Undead Uncle Ben, aGood relationship with JJ JONAH! An actual Job! So i think this will be F'ed up for him the moment he choose to to get bitten!
This is proof Spider-Man is the most op superhero in Marvel fiction, the fact he could sense something was off about his life despite being happy about it, the fact he chose to be Spider-Man cause it felt right on all aspects... Bro get whoever is working on the story on this comic and have them replace the one who's doing the main comics and also self inserting themselves.

@ecksdeeeXD yeah, I'm very worried that's how they're gonna handle it. The thing is I wouldn't be opposed to someone dying, but it's how and when they do it. If they do a build up to it that's pretty long term, I could imagine a death being very impactful for the run. As long as the build up is done well. IF that someone is uncle ben though I'm gonna riot we see his death all the time.

I feel like some weird ironman popping up with the spider felt cheap, underserving, and wasted potential of character build up and world building.
A scenario I could make would be like
Jameson wanting to stop the kingpin curroption and asks Peter to come with him to find evidence(since he is a professional journalist in this story) and thus leading to a case where he gets bitten on his way to expose king pin.
Feels really weird on "Peter Parker."
Finally, please don't bash me and others like me for not immediately crowning this one issue as evidence of the greatest thing to happen to Spider-man comics in decades.
Oh,boy. Here comes the deaths of his family
They try to sell you this whole "POWERLESS" vibe and then mask gets pulled off and uh-oh it's Ultimate Reed's doing.
So, he is gunna lose his fam and kids. Great power, great responsibilty. Sigh. I feel spideyabuse coming in
i can’t wait for the next
Great review man
Thanks! Really appreciate it, glad you enjoyed it too
@@theheroinformant your welcome man :)
Bruh I legit forgot this was a Spider-Man comic book because it mainly revolves around people talking and no action. In a good way
Ok, I'm cool with this less super edgy "Ultimates" perspective. Hoping it stays interesting.
The art here is a breath of fresh air compared to that awful face melting art in the book that-shall-not-be-named
The funny thing is 1610 immortal Peter was still with mary Jane as well , I hope they give him updates again
Modern refreshing plus tons of lore this is nice.
Well he's married to his Sister MJ and has kids with her in this universe. So i dont know. The writers have all the cards to F him up since this version of Peter has kids, Sister-Wife, Undead Uncle Ben, aGood relationship with JJ JONAH! An actual Job! So i think this will be F'ed up for him the moment he choose to to get bitten!
this is freakin gooood
Having a spiderman who's older and mature than the original spiderman is kinda good for me
This is proof Spider-Man is the most op superhero in Marvel fiction, the fact he could sense something was off about his life despite being happy about it, the fact he chose to be Spider-Man cause it felt right on all aspects...
Bro get whoever is working on the story on this comic and have them replace the one who's doing the main comics and also self inserting themselves.
so far so good... wouldn't be surprised though if marvel suddenly makes a hard to for THE MESSAGE. 😅
Looks pretty fire to me!
not gonna lie, this peter with that beard?
...would.
I definitely like this
Finally a good fucking Spider-Man storyline that allows Peter to be a family man.
Im on board ! its fresh and exciting.. All the other current spiderman series are too boring and repetitive, not saying this can turn into that direction but its a nice fresh change
I didn’t like that Tony gave it to him,
but I do like that Peter's responsibility is not by happenstance
I'm just waiting for the first big canon event, we all know it's coming lol.
Im kinda surprised he didn't name his daughter Mary after his mom.
I’m calling it right now Ben or Jameson (probably both) are getting killed by fisk
This would make a great animated series. I prefer this origin story...
I see Miles coming from a mile away to replace him within 20 issues. Watch.
This is refreshing
I like this new origin story.
I just hope they don't mess it up.
This is actually so cool!
okay but why does jonah have the fuhrer mustache….
marvel needs to FIRE their ENTIRE "_creaetive_" staff.. Their quality went through the bottom of the trash bin when Stan Lee left and has been on a steady consistant downhill spiral ever since. RIP Stan, and RIP quality marvel comics. DC for life now.
hmm its looks like going to be really interesthng bcs everythings is change in this universe, im curious how is other heroes are gonna come back
All I’m saying is i hope nothing happens to his kids and that he doesn’t make a deal with the devil
Peter's parents dieing is just a 100% Canon event every Peter goes through
In Hickman we trust
I swear to god If they kill uncle ben erase peters family and make MJ divorce Im gonna riot.
I read the thumbnail as he’s black and the description didn’t help!!😂😂😂
YESSSSSS
I wonder how long will this Peter's life will last like this?
Given his Parker luck? I'd give it a month before someone dies.
@@ecksdeeeXD Probably
@ecksdeeeXD yeah, I'm very worried that's how they're gonna handle it. The thing is I wouldn't be opposed to someone dying, but it's how and when they do it. If they do a build up to it that's pretty long term, I could imagine a death being very impactful for the run. As long as the build up is done well. IF that someone is uncle ben though I'm gonna riot we see his death all the time.
@@ecksdeeeXD a month? I doubt his writers will let him have peace that long....
Ultimate Spider-Man will save Spider-Man comics just like how the original ultimate Spider-Man saved marvel from going bankrupt.
🔥
So tired of the lack of imagination in comics today. Just like Hollywood, everything is a rerun.
Nah they trying to make peters life less traumatic just so they can give it to miles morales... i can see this shlt from a mile away
I’m glad Peter gets to be happy mostly at least any he gets a choice I was hoping it would be the symbiote venom without the crazy so we could see what they said in another comic Peter was supposed to be the king in black
So nothing bad happened to Spider-Man this chapter? Yeah I don’t think I’ll be ready for the next one bruh
