Excellent work Tom!
I have tried a few spots but the spring isn't readily available. I am taking your advise and tweaking the spring. Seems better, doesn't ride up on the washer now.
Thank you for all the help. It goes a long way with me! Appreciate it
Sometimes you have to get creative. Especially when your only option is to buy a whole shift tower just to get a spring.
Jerks sent me the R1 shift-bushing kit, when I needed the R2 kit.
Nevertheless, the bushings looked almost the same. POUNDED them in
as far as they would go. Used the old longer shift-ball.
Shifter now will go into 1st, it was a real battle before. I can now shift
into all gears. However, although I can get the shifter into the Reverse
position, it won't engage, even when dragging the clutch.
There is some twisty gadget above the Reverse-5th rail. I tried putting it
in two different positions. First time, shifter won't go into R position.
Twisted the gadget to different position, shifter will NOW move into
Reverse, but my 96 F-150 4.9 will not back up.
I haven't found a video which discusses this gadjet, or whatever it is,
or how to adjust it correctly.
Go to my Instagram and send me a picture of what you are talking about.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Not sure it will show up. It's at left, as you
look through the shifter-hole, a little
above the 5th-Reverse shift-rail.
It rotates...I'm not at the truck right
now...
That is the reverse lock out. This video covers fixing it. If it is going into reverse now and there is nothing there then you have something wrong inside the unit.
Love this stuff. Can anyone give me some tips on where I can find one of these units of just the shift tower alone?
Might try Bishop's. Link is in the description.
Good job
Thanks
Is that the M5r1 or r2 you are rebuilding? What part of the shift stub is different between the two transmissions?
I believe that one was from a M5R1. The difference between the stub shafts is the length where it goes into the shift forks. You cannot put the long one where it takes a short one. But if you put a short one where it takes a long one it will work somewhat. Eventually it will come out of the fork when you shift and get stuck.
Would this silly device be the cause of the 5th not staying in place ? It pop back in neutral . Have the issue on two gearboxes .
What could be the root cause ?
Doubtful. You probably have a problem with the gear, synchro and slider for 5th.
Can any one tell me the difference between a 1994 and 1995 2.3 manual ranger transmission is it just the speedo gears and can i swap them out .
24:10 what happens if I loose one of those little pins? .. I think 1 fell out because I didn't have it in neutral when I took it apart...
You have the potential to be able to put it in 2 gears at one time and lock the unit up. If it does this while the vehicle is moving, you can cause a lot of damage.
@CurmudgeonTransmission I'm actually missing the pin at 18:53 ... .. I just picked up a parts transmition yesterday
It will still allow it to go into 2 gears at once.
What is that thing called with the springs?
They do not sell it separately. You will have to buy an entire shift tower or tweak the spring like I show in the video.
Hello, I’m in need of some interlock pins for my 1992 f150 with a Mazda m5OD manual transmission. Could you steer me in the right direction or sell me some? Can’t find them anywhere. Thanks
Sorry, don't have any and we don't sell parts.Have you tried WIT or Transtar?
Bigger OD washer?
Possibly.
I put a shifter rebuild kit in my M5ODR2, and RTV'd the black rubber plugs, because they were leaking. I put the top back on and the shifter back in. When I removed the fill plug to top of the fluid, there was pressure, like opening a soda bottle. I only moved the truck about 75 feet between the time I put the shifter in and checked the fluid. What caused it to build pressure? It was two and one half quarts low. Thanks for any insight.
The vent has to be plugged on the transmission.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission where is the vent?
I put bearing grease on the top and bottom bushings of the shifter stub. I've seen on line that these transmissions vent through the shifter stub housing. I wonder if the grease has effectively sealed the vent.
Yup. It does not require any lube on them.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thanks for the reply. I'll try cleaning the grease off and see what happens.
Tom, do you have any video on ford focus DPS6 dual clutch transmission.
Just the clutch, have not been inside the unit yet.
You mention a rebuild kit for the tower, do you have links to it? Or point me in the direction to get the "shift rail ends"? Please and thank you.
The last tower kit I got from Transtar. Link is in the description.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission ok thx
At the 13min mark, you mention the small pin in the center shaft; have somehow lost mine... any idea of a part # for that? Thanks!
No I don't. Measurements are: .470 Long x .156 Diameter
@CurmudgeonTransmission Roger. Definitely appreciate the info! Thanks!
Thx again for thinking ahead and posting the pin specs. Found right diameter pin and machined it to length. Works great now and extremely appreciative!
@@CurmudgeonTransmission what happens if that pin is not in there ? mine kept trying to fall out causing it to get stuck in gear so if i remove it will i still be able to drive the truck ?
It keeps 2 shift rails from being able to be moved at the same time.
Do you have a link to buy the 3 plug kit?
WIT or Transtar, links are in the description.
