  • Upon inspection of the M5OD-R1 I picked from the junkyard in the last video, I'm uncertain if I really need to rebuild this transmission. I think I'm just going to throw it in and see what happens!

    I'd just replace the shift bushings and seals and clean her up with some fresh oil. It's not that hard to take it back out that I would waste the money on a rebuild now. Use it up before that.

    question. i snapped the bolts on that shift housing assembly (first thing you unscrewed). what are those bolts, and does that part need a gasket - mine is leaking, and whats the torque on those bolts?

    Learned a good bit about my transmission from this video mainly how to take it apart witch im a little worried about doing because I don’t want to find anything alarming while im just trying to seal a few leaks,

    How much input shaft play is acceptable?

  • @gosportjamie

    Judging by the lack of oil staining inside the gearbox casing I would say that box has been rebuilt recently, within the last 10,000 miles. It's clearly not a new box from the chip on that one gear but if it's been judged fit for re-use then it's going to be fine for a good time. As long as there's no signs of oil leaking from the input shaft seal I'd say just leave it as it is and chuck it in. It should easily be good for another 50-100,000 miles if it's not mistreated...

    I have 2 of these one reverse is gone and 1 threw 5 were good but noisy and the one in my truck now I lost 1to 5 except reverse from trying to do a burnout. What could have happened? I can get it in to 1st to 5 th sometimes but then loose gear while driving. Like it dropped into neutral but still in gear

      You should be using ATF if it's the Mazda transmission

      I found the best fluid for mine is the GM synchromesh fluid, I have tried many different ones that stuff works like magic

    Any play in that input shaft? My M5R2 was a bit wobbly.

    • @michaelanders4656
      @michaelanders4656 4 года назад

      Mine has that too. Have you spun your inout shaft by hand? I hear the input gear meshing too hard.

      Believe it or not, some transmissions have a wobbly input shaft by design. Getrag 290,NVG3500 out of 96-04 Chevy S10 & Blazer. Those have wobbly input shafts brand new. 90's Dodge V6 manual transmission trucks used these transmissions also.

    I have a 2.3 1995 Ford Ranger manual transmission. The shifter Sticks on every gear. I changed the fluid even added a little bit of Lucas. To see it would help but still sticks like hard to go in gear. Any idea?

      Did you use gear oil or atf because I found out that this trans takes atf which is stupid

    • @domingotrevino6797
      @domingotrevino6797 4 года назад +3

      I used atf automatic transmission fluid which I thought was crazy for standard transmission. But that's what it recommends

    • @speedyboi4623

      Domingo Trevino it could be that your clutch isn’t disengaging all the way so the clutch lightly rubs making it more clucky going from gear to gear

    • @domingotrevino6797
      @domingotrevino6797 4 года назад

      Thank you I think your right. I think I may have to put a new clutch in it already.

      My f150 did the reverse thing then started rattling loudly, I fixed it, it was the reverse counter shaft bearing rollers came apart and got cought up in the other gears, new bearing and a cleaning and good to go again, took 100 or so miles for the rattle to go away. Good luck
