    As a person who is not in your class , but is studying engineering I have learned alot about the design process thank you for making this video & i hope you keep posting videos as they are amazing and of great quality !

    Fantastic video! I teach at South Plains College in Lubbock. This transmission is my favorite to work with, especially with a top cover that can be removed and show the actual working shifts.

      I'll be designing some 3d printed stands to support the internals similar to what I used in my powerflow video. I'll try to post them to thingiverse, so others can copy them. Our general program uses M5OD for their students too.

    Hey thanks for this video I didn’t realize you were so close we live in Terrell and I bought my F150 back in 2002 brand new and it has the M5OD heavy duty in this video will help me tremendously if I ever have to tear it
    Down. I work for Dallas ISD in the fleet maintenance department and drive by Bishop transmissions all the time

      This trans is not the same as the M5OD that is in my F150, it may be from a Ranger and M5OD R1

    Mine took a poopsi this past Friday won't engaged first or second 93 f150 thinking probably an issue with the shift housing since it went all at once although the torque from the 300 was very handy to limp her home from third lol

    I think that's the same transmission I need to convert my 2003 Ford explorer to a manual. The 5R55 automatic is prone to problems. Do you know if the transfer case will bolt up to the back of that one?

  • @thejamesasher

    the manual shifter for my 95 ranger is going too far to the right for 5th and r. planning on accessing the shift housing soon, maybe the problem is in there. the bushings are new, truck actually drives, js it's not right and i wanna fix it.

    I know Im a bit late to the party. Can you inform me the distance from the edge of the bell housing (Block mating surface) to the end of the shaft spacer? Im looking to change out my E4OD for the M5OD-R2 and wanted to know if I will need new driveshafts

    Can the top plate with shifter forks on a 1995 f150 with 4.9 liter and m5od-r2 transmission be replaced with out dropping the transmission through the floor pan access panel?

    Thanks for the great video! I'm going to soon rebuild my M5od, I just would like to know what size puller you used for that output shaft bearing? Looks like a 3 jaw would work, just need to know what size

    • @curious95
      @curious95 3 года назад +2

      Minimum 10" reach for 2wd. Less for 4x4. Can also use bar puller with bearing splitter and 5/8-18 threaded rod.

    hey man quick question, i know for a fact that i pulled one of those little keys (13:15) out of my transmission fluid pan and im looking into a rebuild kit. should i look into ordering more parts than what comes with the full bearing kit rebuild that includes the input drive gear cluster?

  • @GMkpcfGMkpcl

    Going to be rebuilding a 1992 Ranger M5OD R1 and your video will surely help. What were the sizes for the large shaft lock nuts? Don't want to be missing a needed size half way through. Were the 2nd gear double cone and 3rd gear fiberous brass syncros upgrades by your transmission vendor during a prior rebuild?

    • @jimdavis5u
      @jimdavis5u 4 года назад

      I have the same question, did you ever figure it out? Frustratingly, the shaft lock nut tool by OTC/Rotunda doesn't list specs on size and I'm certainly not spending $200+ on it!

    • @curious95
      @curious95 3 года назад

      55mm. They do not sell a 12" deep 55mm socket. You will need to purchase 55mm hex locknut socket (for toyota 4x4) from amazon or napa. Performance Tool W83240, CTA Tools 4190, Evercraft BK 7769137, Performance Tool W83255, KD 3912, Napa BK 7760015.
      These sockets are only 4" deep, so you will need to cut out 1-1/4" hole in the back of the socket.
      Then purchase 8" of 1-1/4 Schedule 40 black iron pipe and have a muffler shop weld this pipe deep well extension to the back of your socket. Then reweld the square hole you cut off, to the other end of the pipe.

    Seems common for 3rd gear to have a grinding problem. They couldn't leave things alone and put in some crappy fiber blocker ring for third gear. Great.

    Got it all back together, I found this mystery pin 1/8" diameter 1/2" long rounded ends. It's not the fat shifter rod pins. I found another thread where the guy had the same thing , cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ford-trucks.com-vbulletin/2000x1504/80-image_487636462d7f014cbdb4808cd66cb1b458591575.jpg that's the pin I found. Not sure what to do. It's not in the schematics,
