Thank you for this video. I tried my hand at rebulding one of these after some of the gears got mashed, my first gearbox rebuild. So far all went perfect, box should go back in tomorrow, so hopefully all stays good. Really good video. Thank you
You and I could hang out I think. I'm loving the music you have playing in the background in all 3 of these videos! Got some David Allan Coe right now at 52:00! Great video BTW.
By far the best out there for assembly disassembly of a M5R2...Leave it to an instructor...great job explaining to us idiots how to survive the costs of mechanical repair..I tell ya id like to see a good video of the history of the M5R2 Trans from the R1 to the R2 interchanges, revisions etc...such a pain in my ass to crash course learn some stuff ill use once...but a huge thank you for making it easy for me...
I was trying to find a video showing the oil baffle on the bearing retainer at the input shaft. At 25:28 it shows the baffle black rubber up. I think it was supposed to go the other way. I couldn't see you put it in, so you may have just set it there wrong to trick me, lol. Naw this is a great video!!!! Thanks. It wouldn't fit the way you had it, so it fit reversed, the baffle that is.
So I did mine 2 yrs ago and I goofed something up with the 1-2 slider. There's no detent on 1st, I have to hold the shifter or it slides out when not under power. Clicks into 2nd no prob. Didnt catch it till it was back in the truck. Said F* it, and been driving it that way for 2 yrs. It didn't do this prior to rebuild. Rebuild was due to a roasted bearing between input and main shafts. Now unfortuantely my slave cylinder is leaking so I'm preparing for a clutch job. The heck u think I did wrong? And can I fix it without a full tear down(betting not)?
Good Videos; watched all 3. What is the source for the PC Reassembly Instructions? (Online sites, Tear-down Instructions (included or separate,) purchase price, etc.)
So I rebuilt my m5od using your disassembly and reassembly videos. Drive the truck and all is good except for 5th gear. It will shift into 5th and stay in gear until you press the accelerator. As soon as you do it jumps out of gear. You can't hold it in gear with both hands. Any ideas? Maybe missed the 5th gear arm when I put the top on?
Hey man. It’s a really good video. A suggestion for improvement? I would imagine most of the viewers of this vid are fairly mechanically adept. Identifying the various components and installing in the correct direction is challenging. Your experience allowed you to identify on the fly when something wasn’t correct. I have an AllData sub, and it is almost useless for a general (though broad) mechanic such as myself. Your vid would be absolutely perfect if you took a moment to demonstrate proper orientation of parts. On a purely selfish note, I am having issues with my keys continually falling out even though properly assembled. I suspect my keeper springs are shot. Any thoughts as to how “normal” this is?
My buddy said I needed to take some auto-shop class just so I could get access to AllData...Really? We couldn't find any of the blow-up diagrams we needed. Mitchell's? No better.😢
Hey buddy thanks for the detailed video. Where would you buy a rebuild kit and other items one may need for a complete rebuild of a M50d-R2? Thanks in advance. Its for my 89 f150 2x4 4.9l. 321k strong.

Hey man, thanks for this video. Just the thing us shade tree mechanics need.
Good video, I'm trying to find the second-hand synchronizer, the three-piece one, but I can't find it. Can you tell me where I can get it, please? 😢

Great video ! It takes a lot of work to make these videos
Anyone notice the old LEE reloader in the background?
I was looking at rebuild kits for these and NOBODY shows a fiber lined synchro like you installed.
The rubber ring is for shipping. Seals the tail housing from gunk slip yoke pushes it forward upon install

Question. Did you use a pipe to fit over the shaft when you pressed the input shaft bearing back on? Thanks.
Anyone have a part number for that 3-4 synchro thrust washer? Can't seem to find it anywhere
Thank you for this video!
Would you happen to have part number for rebuild kit? Or where to order? I have 96 Mazda 2wd. 36 tooth 5th/reverse.
