Thank you, Philip, for all your very informative videos. I really like the way you teach us so much while remaining very humble. I learn a lot from you! And in this video, the fact that you explain that 18 GB on an M3 is more than enough reassures me for my next investment! Looking forward to another video!
Great video, thanks. I have now altered my Christmas list, although, it may take a few Christmases to complete that list. Have you ever tried the Audeze MM-500? If you have how do they compare you're LCD X's?
Thanks so much for the comment! They're not the same, but I'd say they carry the same heritage in terms of sound. I'd say it's something you have to personally try and let the gut feeling decide. This might not be "scientific" at all, but this is the only way to make that decision. I promise you, one of them will feel perfect for you. They're not better or worse in any way and the price difference also isn't huge.
Great question! All projects, samples, etc. are directly synced to Dropbox. So every time I hit save, it’s being mirrored in the cloud. I’ll have to use Time Machine as well I guess as a second (different) backup method. Haven’t set it up yet. On Windows I did that with a program called Macrium Reflect.
Thanks for the video! I couldn't quite understand the brand you mentioned as one of the recommended drive brands, would you mention a few for me to checkout ?
It’s a satechi thunderbolt enclosure for NVME drives. I got a WD Black 850 if I remember correctly. Edit: just checked, this is the one: WD Black SN850X 4TB
@@pickyourselfofficial thanks! The enclosure I'd gotten, just not the drive. I've had two WD hard drives die on me... before SSD... but the trauma remains 😅
Question about the RME - whats the max Buffer size it can handle? My current interface only supports up to 1024 and sometimes thats not enough as I have a serious commitment problem when it comes to printing things. (My older one could go up to 2048 and I miss that, but its noise floor was higher so the upgrade was worth it still.)
Not only does RME have the best drivers and the ADI-2 is as good as conversion gets, it also has by far the best headphone amp I’ve used in professional gear and being able to have different EQ profiles for different headphones is great
Great video. I have the MacBook Pro M3 and it’s insanely stable and never gives me issues. External SSD drive for my Mashine Mk3 library. Having the laptop means I can make tracks while travelling and capture the moment. Great video😊
Do you have no problems at all with the low-end energy when mixing with headphones? Many people tend to have the problem that the low end is overemphasized, which can be solved with sidechaining. But I often have the problem that a kick or a bassline sound sounds good on the headphones, but you can't feel it on your body during a car check. That's why I've been waiting for the new Subpac X1 for years. I even bought the Slate VSX. The mixes translate even better with it, but there is still a difference between hearing and feeling the bass.
It’s a bit special with the planar magnetic drivers in the Audeze. It’s the first type of headphone which doesn’t feel like a headphone while mixing and mastering. Low-end feels much tighter and the transients are just right, even in bass sources. It doesn’t replace the feeling of a large speaker array and subwoofer, of course on a festival or club setting. In a typical studio, even if it’s well-treated, there are still plenty of standing waves which make you feel some frequencies much more or less than others. So I wouldn’t fully trust that either. In cars it’s even more unreliable. So I’d say: if you get better results with the VSX plus subpac than without; absolutely go for it.
If it comes to audio processing the most important is CPU. Just pick something with nice single core speed like i7 12700 or better. Afterwards 32GB of RAM or better, separate any graphic card (to not overload CPU) and SSD drive. With such a config I have sessions with multiple heavy plugins and I dont observe any issues like sound glitches etc.
Absolutely. Though I won’t complain having my studio back, haha. I’ll have a little bit of time it in in fall/ winter, then I’ll need to look for a new one in Valencia.
I have a M1 Pro with 32G and oddly have Ableton 12 is always around 60 to 80 percent CPU. It’s super annoying because I don’t think I have too much in my session to get such a high CPU
Like this setup!
It will keep your mind clear,, and you don’t need to worry about the signal flow too much, also it will the desk clean !
Yes, definitely 💯🚀 But I’ll admit, I definitely enjoy working in my proper studio a bit more 😂
And I totally agree with your take on Sonaworks ^^.

I love the minimal setup Philip! Thank you for sharing with us
My pleasure! 💯🙌🏻
Big up for you man! This is awesome content!
Thank you, this means a lot!

So what did you actually discover?
Awesome setup, I switched over to Studio One, everything in one DAW.
What are your thoughts on Steven Slate VSX for a headphone mixing setup?
Keep the updates coming Philip 😊 All the best to you and the family on your journey.
Thank you 💯🙌🏻
Very interesting...what is your backup routine in thismobile setup (since ssd´s can die without warning)?

It’s 2048 for lower sample rates 44.1 and 48khz but for higher ones it’s down to 1024 as well.

thank you very much for all these very useful information!
That’s great to hear, thanks for the feedback!
Thank you for sharing these insights! Do you use any crossfeed plug-in when producing and mixing on headphones to emulate the speaker feeling?

I have the same headphones but with an EQ curve in my RME audio interface thanks to the Totalmix Room EQ. Much better in my opinion.
Cool! What did you change in the response and why? Really curious! Theoretically I can adjust EQ also on the interface and store it there.
@@pickyourselfofficial I took the Sonarworks curve and copy it.

I don't have the finances to invest that much, so I'm going to ask you this question ... Have you tried the MM-100? What do you think of it?
Sometimes the only gear we do need to make music is just a good computer and a good headphone. No more. 🎉
Good stuff man .. Less is more in the end

What your sample rate are you running
@@bjornkameleon 128
you use 3 separate DAWs? 😐 That sounds absolutely horrific to me 😅
