Spectacular Double Spherion by Purnell

- In today’s video you will discover a pretty crazy mechanical feat coming from the Purnell brand with nothing less than a very spectacular double gyrotourbillon developed by talented watchmaker Eric Coudray and the team of Tech Group. This extremely intricate mechanism is referred to as a Spherion and uses three cages inside each other with the goal of neutralising the effect of gravity and therefore increase the chronometry of the timepiece. One of the particularity of this Spherion is that the cases rotate on themselves very fast and this is achieved with the use of a special escapement called Potter.
But one of the downside is that it requires quite a lot of energy, especially when you have two of these regulating organs in the same movement, and Purnell had therefore to put six barrels in order to obtain an adequate power reserve.

Spherions from the watchmaking genius of Eric coudray. A mechanical marvel indeed.
My god the black case with the blue cages is absolutely stunning
The watch looks like it could open a portal to another dimension.
That’s probably one of it’s hidden features
This is what Quinn Malory would have made if they rebooted Sliders.
Nah it looks like you can wind back time for yourself making you effectively immortal. Dont go back too far or youd become a fetus.
Lmao
@@csnoopy lol
This is the type of mechanism you stare at and ask "what is even going on in there?" I think that mesmerizing complexity is a large part of why people spend the time and effort needed to produce this.
Amazing machine. Great future in the business. The contrast is beautiful. Greatness.
He says he wanted to make people say "wow" when they see it. Well, mission AC-COM-PLISHED. WOW!!!
😉😉
the wow sound was even bigger when i see the price
Spectacular indeed. Extraordinary piece.
As you say 👍👍
I still have two kidneys. Will they cover the deposit?
Had you three, then maybe 😉😉👍
@@user-zl2sc3bg3g sad thing is, i think even three is not enough :-P
LMAO
@@twogluon I believe that you need at least 5 or more Kidneys if they are fetching around A buck Fifty each on the BM! Yikes...
Eric Coudray words cant describe your talent. For MB&F Thunderdome you hv made single tourbillon here you unleashed your full power !! You are indeed a MASTER !!
As usual, excellent presentation! Eric Coudray is the go-to guy for spherical tourbillons. I believe the recent MB&F LM Thunderdome also bears his signature work.
You're right and we're publishing something tomorrow about it 👍
WOW...JUST...WOW! This watch probably cost more than all the money I have ever made in my life (or will ever make)! Bravo 👏 stunning work of art!
Simply amazing one can't help admiring the science , workmanship and artstry , Viva Double and long live Watches TV !
Haha, that's right!
Amazing video as always
Many thanks for this 👍👍
JUST IMPECCABLE. The skill, time and passion that goes into these is next level.
The Purnell Double Spherion is a beautiful gyrotourbillon watch. the Two color gyrotourbillon spinning is fantastic. I like the fact that the Purnell gyrotourbillon back case and side case are transparent. The Purnell Double Spherion remind me of the Jacob&Co double gyrotourbillon watch but the Purnell with the colored gyrotourbillons and transparent case is more beautiful.
Wow...just...Wow!..I'm late but ..😰 I ADORE this timepiece.. Shame I'll never be able to afford this artwork😭😭
Quelle magnifique cinématique du mouvement!trop beau
Another spectacular video, like always. Viva "this" watchmaking
Thanks a lot!!
Awesome construction !
The more appreciation for the marvels of nature
Hey China, good luck cloning this one.
Hahahahha this is a good one
China "hold my beer"
China is the best counterfeiter
no wonder, chinese can make a replica of this.
biggest rofl of today, :D.
I have a "conventional" tourbillon, and as much as it amazes me, it is not even close to being as phenomenal as the Purnell. I only have a one dimension single balance wheel/escapement to look at, and it rotates at a so slow rate in comparison with the Double Spherion's flying cages....Wow is an understatement....more like "Holy sh**!!!
Hahaha, I like the attitude!!! All the best to you
That's a stunning watch.
Definitely a grail watch! I mean cmon, incredible !
Pretty crazy for sure!!!!
@@user-zl2sc3bg3g i'm a sucker for tourbillons and the Double Spherion! Omg😍
@@SwissWatchGang thank you!
@@purnell_official Well done guys! 👍
maybe this watch is teh holly grail..
Incredible work of art
Absolutely incredible unique design and execution!
Jacob and Co came out with a very similar style movement using two triple axis sequential tourbillons last year that they're currently using in the watch they are making for Bugatti. I always thought it looked a little strange because the tourbillions didn't turn smoothly but Purnells does the same thing so it must just be the way such a complicated "mini machine" works. I wasn't familiar with Purnell until this video but will definitely be looking into them more as I love collecting watches from small brands with complicated in house movements. A great video as always. I must say your quality and informative videos are a strong reason for my collection continuing to grow faster than it probably should, Viva Watchmaking!!
Hahaha, but very happy to hear this. Thanks a lot for your message and all the very best to you.
it is very wow! very nicely done Puernell super like!
Thanks and nice!!
I must add that watch to my collection.
Its 300k
Encore une prouesse d’ingénierie horlogère. Chapeau 🎩
Exactement et merci pour le commentaire
We've heard of hypercars. The Purnell Escape II is a hyperwatch. Pure and simple.
Purely Spectacular, after that words simply fail me,
Nice 👍
Very impressive. I think Rube Goldberg would love it.
A watch with balls. Awesome
Another great video Marc!
Since I first saw LeCoultre's Gyrotourbillon, I have been wondering why watchmakers don't utilize 3D printing for these incredibly complex 'cages'. To my mind, it's a technology which lends itself perfectly to the application.
the cages are in titanium weighing 0.79grams - not sure 3D printing can be on a reliable technological material... something new to look into
Could happen in the future, interesting comment 👍
Although I am not exactly a fan of gyro... Sorry, Spherions, the engineering and craft that goes into them is something else. And there's Mr Purnell's enthusiasm, always nice to see an enthusiastic company owner.
love this three dimension watch
WOW-WOW
wow looks so good. One of the most interesting watches i have seen
Thank you.
I'm not rich enough to even watch the video.
Sincerely don't worry about it and consider this as a visit in a museum of mechanical art 😉
"Watch" the video
this watch would be worthy as another birthday present for you to unbox
I do agree with you ;)
Wonderful watch...
Phenomenal piece. Wow indeed
fantastic, the art of gravity
That watch is all I need , keep the Royal Oak ,Dive Master ect. great vid thanks
They make custom watches for their clients? AWESOME!!!
Epic engineering and design for sure. Asking the obvious question: What is the accuracy of this gorgeous timepiece?
Stunning
Thanks
I love this watch.
The black w/colored cages make it look like it should have "Nickelodeon" stamped on it. This Masterpiece should only be available in the finest polished Rare Metals including Meteorite w/Olivine accents.
This actually exists?
I actually fell out of bed.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my god! My mind is slowly exploding like Maxo Kream!
Nice to know that watches can produce this ;) All the best to you
Si greubel forsey et JLC avaient collaboré, le résultat aurait été assez proche. Tres beau !!
these look awesome
Cool! Are some of these titanium cages powder coated? I wouldn't want that.
We are preparing a story soon specifically on the cages decoration it's totally unique!
Mesmerizing
Quite something
That watch has balls.
La montre est insane !
This really caught my attention that is why i clicked it.
Cool!
But will it blend?
This is amazing but completely Bonkers - seems that because of the double carriages inertia, multiple spring barrels are fairly essential.
The six spring barrels are necessary due to the energy consumption of the Potter escapement allowing the fastest rotation of all triple axis tourbillon in the world
@@purnell_official Quite.
Just one word: WOW.
Nicely summarised ;)
Thanks✌🏻
Wow !
Masterpiece 👍🏻
Merveilleux
I like the music you used to end the video
I can't find it with Shazam :(
Haha, our little secret ;)
I still need more insights about working of this arrangement, as how did they manage to keep the escapement stationary, and worked the pallet and balance around it? Also, about taking the average of both balances, how do they do it?
Also, if I could read their patents and study them a bit :) I am hungry for more technical details :)
We will do our best to give more technical insights on the watch mechanism in the coming days and weeks - stay tuned on our new Instagram page Purnell_official
@@purnell_official okay, I appreciate your efforts anyway )
I am not one for watches, don't even own one, but damn thats beautiful
We need more peoples like this.
And here I am admiring my Seiko 5 with the exhibition case back because dispite the $120 I paid for it the watch feels like my Accutron VX200 in terms of quality. I would swear that these Seikos would retail for over 3k if they were Swiss, that being said the movement only loses 4-5 seconds a day, I checked it myself.
Just brilliant.
Awesome!
Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing.
From Malaysia...wow watch...
Absolutely genius. How complicated it can be... omg...
LOVE this!
Wow, amazing 👏😍🙌❤
Beautiful timepiece indeed, but sadly such timepieces are not shock proof, thats why I switched to a nice G-shock in daily use. :)
seeing this watch i think my real vision fps drops 😂
Shut up and take my money! Wait...I don't have that much money :(
Can anyone make a dual caged toubillon in a much smaller case? I don't like the "clock on the wrist" look. I want my form and function in a useful case size.
Considering the complexity of movement, it’s seriously not that big. I seriously don’t see how this could be made smaller. Best to you
Discover the piece for real by yourself you'll see how it nicely fits the wrist! but stay tuned in 2020 your wish might become reality... !
@@user-zl2sc3bg3g In there lies the art, I guess. Some watchmaker somewhere will bring the size down as soon as we get over this odd fascination of having a clock on the wrist.
it is really about adding more complexity to the watch. There is no requirement of a second tourbillion as he only uses the average of the two to calibrate. even if you built an octa spherion, nothing was added to the watch in terms of accuracy.
And like Cedric says, it's more an exercice of style, a cool one for sure. Best to you
Wow
that thing is outrageously obnoxious .... i love it!
Hahaha ;)
Fantastic.
BUT..
The elephant in the room, how much do I have to pay for one of these?!
nice technology
Its real masterpice and this watchmaker is almost like Da Vinci from Carlos Portugal
Checked my local watchstore...they didn't have it..bummer!
Brought some cash and everything!
4:22 wouldn't it be safer to hold it with a plastic tool? (scratches etc.)
2 balls, damn wow
I really like the sound at the start of the video, where can i find it?!
Hello Luciano, sorry for the late reply the soundtrack used is called Saturn by Curtis Cole
@@user-zl2sc3bg3g Thanks!
I mean, it's a nice watch and all, but i can't look at it without feeling like it's got testicles.
I was expecting some English subtitles from the founder wasn't expecting that lol.
This would look good with my platforms with the fish tank in them. lol
Price?
Reminds me a lot of Brenninstein, the videoclip from Sigur Ros
whats the song? cant shazam it
How much do they cost?
Dear Sir, please contact our team at socialmedia@cpurnell.com, thank you!
Magnifique!
Still trying to work out if this should be classed as an automaton as my gut feeling is that the power needed to drive it can't be helping its timekeeping accuracy.
But maybe that's unfair as even something as simple as the A. Lange und Sonne watch on my wrist as I type is far less accurate than the cheapest quartz watch. lol
Actually time keeping is really good but indeed as you loose power, then you loose accuracy quite fast. And I hope you enjoy your current timepiece ;) All the best to you
guys i checked their website and the single ball version is around 288,939 USD ,so don't even think about buying one
