    nice video and review, i have also used both cards and wanted to point something.
    last year near release i got the 7900 xt. i am not the type of guy who will mess with oc or uv too much, but i had a version of a card that had issue withe thermals and more specifically hotspot tempratures.
    It was not throttling, yet i had a delta difference of over 30 degrees celcius which resulted into vey loud fans since for what i ve noticed for amd cards fans take into consideration hotspot temperature as a factor.
    what i am trying to say is that i had two choices. either i i would run the card with fan limit resulting making it even hotter, or undervolt it and set fan limit aswell.
    in fact eventually i switched off the factory oc bios just to keep my accoustics sanity.
    I am not here to shit on amd or xfx, but yet again the issue i went against if u make a little research is something common especially for early production cards, which makes me to believe that many 7900 xt's are failed 7900xtx projects and not just downgraded chips..
    On the other hand that card was absolute monster, i never needed to use even once fsr for what i play even with maximum settings at 1440p.
    My experience with 4070tis is far diffferent. i got msi gaming x slim, it is extremely quiet no matter what with factory clocks over 2800mhz if i recall correctly, with very good temperatures on hotspot and junction, while the overall temperatures are like 63 max...
    also regarding the vbios issue, i cant say since i installed the latest version with like 2 clicks when i installed the card, i never messed with voltages, fans or clocks and i dont even care.
    both my choices were a little bit of gamble since there was limmited information for me at that times but in my humble opinion i had a very better experience with this 4070tis model because of
    1)noise levels from unbarable to irrelevant 2)power consumption and similar perfomance from 350w to 200`ish 3) better ray trace perfomance 4)vsr 5)better support for hdr 6)dlss
    while i lost,
    1)minimal rasterization perfomance 2) 4gb vram 3)fsr3 from adrenaline software for any game 4)antilag+
    not an nvidia fanboy on the contrast since ive seen the potentiall of 7900xt and the features of the vast superior adrenaline software all i got to say is be carefull of which version of the card you will pick. dont compromise to that, you may regret that later like i did. you dont have to get rog strix, aorus master or whatever premium, but stay away from unreliable products and avoid or atleast products at their release especially for amd, since we've seen cases lately with hardware issues.
    the only negative experiences ive had so far with the 4070 is that for the first drivers i could not use frame generation and also had some severe drivers issues even with ddu clean install and reset, but these problems thankfully are long gone now, with newer drivers.

    I've been building PCs since 1988 (Ah, my old 286-16!) and your reference to Lego is spot-on. When building a PC, all that one has to remember is that "What fits together goes together." because that's all there really is to it, just like Lego! If something doesn't fit, it doesn't go there. If it does fit, it does go there.
    Like you say, "It's not aeronautical engineering!" (or something to that effect). 😉🤣

    Hey Matt, I just had a few thoughts that perhaps you would find to be of value.
    My first thought is that Cyberpunk's RT is seemingly designed to specifically cripple Radeons so maybe one run with RT on and on with RT off would be in order.
    My second thought is that you should abandon upscaling and/or frame generation because they don't give an accurate description of what the card is capable of on its own and there are other caveats besides that involved. Because of the different technologies involved, it hampers your efforts to provide an "apples to apples" comparison. There's nothing wrong with having it, I just believe that it should compliment a standard run without it instead of having it as your principal method for comparison.
    My third thought is that you should take the amount of VRAM that a card has into account when evaluating its value. It has long been demonstrated that when it comes to a card's longevity, VRAM is life. I was made painfully aware of this years ago when I was first forced to run my R9 Fury at 1080p. Even though it had incredibly fast HBM (on a 4096-bit bus), it only had 4GB of it and that was insufficient. My only comfort was the fact that I managed to buy it for less than half the price of an RX 580 during he first mining craze of 2017 even though it's a faster card overall.
    Lately, people who bought an RTX 3080 have been having to face the fact that 10GB is not enough to run modern games at 1440p Ultra even though the card has the graphical horsepower to handle it. Its paltry 10GB VRAM buffer just hamstrings that card with stuttering and unloaded textures. It's a very real and important metric when buying a video card these days.
    I advise you to not just take my word on any of this because I'm not the "Trust me, bro!" type. I only seek to bring this to your attention and I would encourage you to look around and judge for yourself if my words have merit.
    This was a great video Matt and I look forward to seeing more from you. Cheers!

      For RT I specifically want a few games in my benchmark suite that use RT well, so I settled on Cyberpunk and Avatar ... one game favors Nvidia (with DLSS) while the other favors AMD (with FSR). For frame gen I have recently been testing both of those games with it on and off ... I might only show it with it off moving forward. Good point about VRAM ... it's definitely a worthwhile consideration. There are obviously examples of where Nvidia didn't use enough but there are always examples of where AMD added more than makes sense ... by the time games would need that much VRAM the card would be somewhat useless. Regardless I should mention it in my GPU reviews moving forward as a consideration, especially when it's borderline acceptable. Thanks for the feedback and being a valuable part of the Blackbird PC Tech community, I really appreciate it.

      @DrLogic_ Месяц назад

      The extra 100+ dollars I spent on the 4070 Ti Super allowed me to save over 100 dollars on a new 1440p screen. DLDSR on Nvidia GPUs enables me to play at 1600p/1800p while using a 1200p screen. DLSS is something most Nvidia users will enjoy, just like FSR for AMD users, and it is very important for benchmarks. If a game has it available, I bet most people will use it (especially for story games).

    Maybe you should turn on resizable bar next time. I know it doesn’t seem fair because Nvidia has to green light a game in order for it to be enabled and that gives the 7900xt a sure fire advantage, also would narrow the cyberpunk margins drastically, but that is all on Nvidia and the AMD card shouldn’t be held back due to their restrictions on their hardware.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  3 месяца назад +1

      Resizable bar was on, as specified in the legend on each chart located in the top left corner. Not sure why you think resizable bar (or Smart Access Memory as it’s called for AMD) would narrow the gap in a game that only allows frame gen for DLSS.

    great video. I actually had the hardest time deciding the 7800xt or the 4070 back in late September/ early October and I decided to get the 7800xt. It performed on par if not better than the 4070 on raw performance and was $100 cheaper and since I don't care for Ray tracing (most gamers don't I believe) the 7800xt became clearer to me to buy. FSR 3 is also really good (not as good as DLSS 3) but still great.
    I don't care nor have a Favorite brand at this point tbh. I care for what is the best band for buck that will run my games how i want it and I'm glad I don't regret buying the 7800xt.
    Now I will Admit though, if the 4070 TI super came out sooner (and slightly cheaper at maybe $700) I would have bought that card instead but I think the 7900xt is the better choice between those 2 cards.

    The only reason to buy an Nvidia GPU at this time is if Ray Tracing and DLSS are important to you as the AMD GPU’s hold the edge on sheer restoration per dollar.
    To me they are very important to me so I’m deciding between the 4070 Ti Super or the 4080 Super for the extra $200 that also gives you 20% boost in performance.
    I know when it comes time to sale one the 4080 Super will be easier to get back more of what I payed then the less popular 4070 Ti Super so I’m kind of leaning towards just paying the extra $200 to buy the 4080 Super.
    Good news for me I’m just waiting for Capital One Shopping to send me a 20% back at Walmart that I will combine with my Capital One Walmart credit card that has a 5% cash back as well for a combined total 25% off.
    This will put the cost of the 4080 Super for me at only $750 that is $50 less then the 4070 Ti Super and only $50 more then a 3080 originally costed.

      For an ultrawide resolution (3440x1440) you have a total pixel count of 4,953,600 pixels, which is ~34% higher than 1440p (2560x1440) which has a total pixel count of 3,686,400 pixels and ~40% lower than 4K (3840x2160) which has a total pixel count of 8,294,400. This will allow you to interpolate between the data points provided in the charts, so for COD: MW3 for your resolution the 7900XT should generate an average FPS of ~167.7. The benchmarks that I show include a few games with ray tracing turned on in the default game settings (Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2023, Avatar), so this isn't simply a rasterization comparison. That said, my test data shows the two cards very evenly matched, it doesn't show the 7900XT getting defeated by the 4070 Ti Super, as I explain in the video. There are a lot of online reviewers that have no idea what they are doing ... social media is great but there is no standard or governing body, so unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation out there and some reviewers like to cater to a specific audience with biased "data". • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  15 дней назад

      Rasterization creates polygons to represent 3D images ... for graphics with rasterization to get better, you need to use more and more polygons. Ray tracing is simply a better approach because it represents what happens in the real 3D world. Unfortunately GPUs today don't have enough horsepower to do full path tracing, so Nvidia and AMD come up with tricks to implement Ray Tracing on our current hardware. That said, it is the future and AMD is fully embracing it as well. I'm not sure how or why that would be offensive to anyone. And I use blue and red because I would prefer not to pay Bruce Buffer to shoot another video simply to say green instead of blue, even though that would be ideal. Most people, regardless of their technical background, don't have trouble following simple colors.

    Not sure why you ran cyberpunk with ultra RT settings but did not with any other title. That is screwing results. If you run RT on one then you run it on all that support it. Do not like the testing, sorry, but I will pass on this channel.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  22 дня назад

      I explain my testing methodology in my videos and why it's superior to other channels. I use preset game settings so that the results can be replicated easily. For some titles, such as Cyberpunk and Avatar, this means RT is on by default. There are only two titles where I use frame gen, one is in Cyberpunk which favors Nvidia and one is in Avatar which favors AMD. So no, it's not favoring one card over the other since each title balances the other. I think it's important to test in a way that reflects real world behavior, not biased all RT that would favor Nvidia or all rasterization that would favor AMD. If you want to see biased results then this channel is definitely not for you and there are plenty of pro AMD and pro Nvidia channels out there to choose from.

    Biast test, a proper overclock is undervolting AMD cards. That's where you get most gains

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  Месяц назад

      How exactly was this test biased? If I undervolted the 7900 XT and didn’t overclock the 4070 Ti properly then that would be biased. The reason I don’t test cards with max overclocks or undervolts is because that performance depends heavily on silicon quality, as explained in my videos. I understand that you may really want to see a different result, but that doesn’t make the data invalid.

    • @TheSleven67
      @TheSleven67 29 дней назад

      @blackbirdpctech the undervolt is where amd cards get their gains. Not overclocking them. Where Nvidia cards are the other way around. Overclocking them both is a disadvantage to amd cards.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  29 дней назад +1

      Undervolting simply allows the gpu to boost or "overclock" higher and longer. That is why you get a performance gain and why the gain is heavily silicon quality dependent. The auto OC’s that I used in this video are very small, helped the performance of both cards and are not silicon dependent (so everyone can use them). To truly optimize an AMD gpu you should provide a manual OC and undervolt.
