the huge problem here, is that rx 7600 makes the 4060 a good value, because of dlss upscaling ( which at resolutions targeted by these gpus is really fine) heck you can even use dlss to upscale from 720p to 1440p or 4k and not ending up regretting that decision ,we will see when fsr 3.1 will available as mods for games , because right now , the 4060 is the better value of the 2

@@bradlydrummondofficial To be honest, any GPU would be a huge upgrade. Get a used RTX 3060, it will do you well, just make sure your PSU can handle it, and your CPU wont bottleneck it.
ill go with the 4060, because nvidia uses compression to reduce VRAM usage while AMD do gulp down ram like nobody's business. 8gb vram on nvidia is not the same as 8gb vram on amd. coupled with less heat, less power draw and smaller form factor overall, 4060 is a no brainer vs the 7600.

8GB is mostly fine for this class of GPUs, unless you are willing to play AAA games right at launch. Unoptimzed games may utilize more VRAM then they really need to function stable. So you need to wait for some time, until game devs release a few patches. For example, Horizon FW has already received a few patches, yet it still consumes a bit too much of VRAM. So, unless you are willing to play with Medium quality textures, which look pretty blurry, you had to wait another week or two.
Hey Brett, AMD released new driver for RX7000 that boosts Helldivers 2 performance by up to 35%. RX7600 beats 4060 by a huge amount with the latest drivers. Did you use the latest drivers 24.4.1?
I agree but with my 7600 was still having issues with drivers so I got a ASUS 4060ti dual with the ssd slot in the back (I know it’s a ti but best upgrade I did) and I have more storage and steady fps with no issues. But all I can say the 7600 is a very good card I’m sad I sold it
I just bought my palit 4060 because I needed a itx single fan card to fit my new itx build. Wanted amd but the only single fan card they have is a rx6500.
As a 4060 user, if you're upgrading from any of the 20, 30 series cards, or at least only getting 5-10% performance boost. The 4060 is not worth it. I came from the 1660S. After upgrading, so many games in my library that I was running on med-high is now running at ultra at 60-70fps plus. With DLSS and FG, you can go for so much more and saves up on your electricity bills. Of course, there's probably better options you can choose from but you gotta factor in if it's available in your area. Otherwise, the shipping cost alone would hurt you if you're on a budget.
12:52 I would have taken into account what saving that $30 would get you. Assuming a reasonable APR of 5.00% for 5 years, you'd end up with $38.29 from your original $30. So for the 1hr/day, $0.4/kWh, 5 years case, it would *still* be just under $7 cheaper to go AMD.
At PCpartpicker, the cheapest RTX 4060 is 295 dollars while the cheapest RX 7600 is 260 dollars right now. Also, you can use frame generation on any DX11 or DX12 game with the RX 7600 thanks to AFMF, while you can use frame generation on only a small number of games that support DLSS 3 with an RTX 4060. Not every game developer will spend the time and resources to support DLSS 3.
I just bought an RX 7600 off Amazon for $260, gonna try it out later today once my new case arrives and see how well it can perform, though I usually play on 1080p and I’m well aware 1440p is harder to run, but switching from an antique 1050 super 4GB, I think it’s worth the shot to try it out 💪. If not then my lil bro will inherit this pc and I’ll look for upgrades 😂

Just bought a new RX 7600 for 232€ (tax included) on sale and here in germany the RTX 4060 averages around 300€ so the choice is pretty clear what to go for here.
yea it was a tough pill to swallow that i actually had to buy a 4060ti 16GB because i actually needed the bloody thing as a card under 21cm with cuda and its other features and i needed more than 8GB of vram... it felt so bad to buy it but i know i need it and am going to use it...
I stopped listening to the big name "reviewers" that basically call people poor trash if they cannot afford $400+ for a GPU. I've had a RX7600 (the size of that 4060 in your video) for a year now and am happy with it, no problems gaming at 1440 75Hz. I have seen sale prices for the RX7600 drop into the low $200s.
I did get the Asrock steel legend 7600, but the Xt model after the intel arc A750 le did not meet my expectations, and have not regret buying the gpu. It's surprisingly light able to perform well on all the games that I play Tony Hawk Pro Skater, and the graphics on Halo Infinite was resolved after switching.
I feel like a lot of the hate was justified. The reduced memory bus width and the reduction of VRAM. I think the hate would have been tempered quite a bit had they included 12GB... a precedent they set with the 3060, or hell... AT least 10GB. The die shrink from the 3060 also says a lot. In some ways, they're selling a 50 class card as a 60 class card and the laptop 4060 basically performs pretty close to the desktop model, and really only has a very slight reduction in boost clock and they use the same die. And the 4070 is a similar story... they're somewhat selling a 60 class card as a 70 class card. Granted, AMD is playing the exact same game.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino I'm using a velka 3 (a 3.9l case) and my 4060 has enough space to route the power connector; I'd imagine any builds larger than mine will be fine.
Except for the fact that the last-gen 3060 Ti still outperforms it and could easily be found for $300 new before Nvidia cut production. When SFF price to performance goes down between gens, you're doing something wrong.
4060 is a good card, but the price for it is a decisive factor. I got a pc at costco with it that came with the latest generation i7 cpu for only $1000, so I think it's a great budget deal if you can get that.
Just seeing the 1% and 0.1% lows being usually 15 fps higher on the 7600 card vs the 4060 would mean there is a clear winner because a dip to 45fps from the 4060 vs 58fps on the 7600 is a huge very noticeable difference.
Hey Brett, love your channel. May I suggest that you mention the lows next time you do a review like this? There were quite a few times where the 7600 technically lost in avg fps, it still kicked ass in the lows, even comparing fsr with dlss. Other than that, keep on keeping on my brother!
I put a 4060 in my HTPC, a serious upgrade from the RX6400 that was in it. Now it can help out with video transcoding duties, where it is about 2/3 as fast as the 4080 in my main PC (using Handbrake to transcode BD rips to AV1). 2/3 the speed for 1/4 the money ain't a bad deal. Gaming? No comparison. The 4080 annihilates the 4060. But that's not what I use the 4060 for most of the time.
Nvidia is at the peak of technology and features on the market. If their products were actually reasonably priced and the 4060 wasn't a 50-Tier chip, there wouldnt be an issue. An 8GB ~$200 4050 Ti with 3060 level performance wouldnt be bad at all.
Was actually thinking about buying 4060 (or ti version) since i am upgrading from GTX 1060. Before anyone said "wait for 50 series" i set a deadline for PC upgrades until September this year. Even then i think shipping cost is going to make the difference moot in my region

Not sure where or how you came up with the total power consumption numbers, but when Techpowerup measured the actual power consumption through the pcie slot and 8pin connector for gaming, they had only a 27w difference … RTX MSI 4060 8GB … 125w RX 7600 8GB … … … 152w Phoronix in their RTX 4060 vs. AMD Radeon RX 7600 Linux Gaming Performance averaged 98w for the 4060 and 111w for the 7600. Only a 13w difference. AFAICT MSI Afterburner is under reporting the 4060 numbers and over reporting the 7600 numbers. If these numbers are coming from the AMD drivers, they should fix that. Also, the 7600’s idle at lower watts than the 4060’s, techpowerup … RX 7600 … … … … … … 2w RX Sapphire Pulse 7600 … 4w MSI RTX 4060 … … … 11w Palit RTX 4060 … … … 14w So, 15-20 hrs of lower idle should make up a few hrs of gaming.
And if you're looking on the used market, you might get lucky and find a 7600 for under $220 (seen them for around $200 at times). It's much more difficult to find a used 4060 for that price.
Considering, the GPU, CPU and Mobo idle temps, I doubt 21c is accurate, I would check that out, it's not possible to be that low, even at idle, even when my PC is off in winter here it's 22c and nearly 30c in summer inside my case. My specs if you're wondering, AMD R9 5950x, RTX 4060, AMD X570 Taichi razor edition, Corsair D4000 case, and Noctua cooler.

That Lenovo Legion Slim 5 goes for $1200 - $1500 now. That being said I may end up getting a 5000 series or an XTX or 4090. I would have a REALLY hard time upgrading to a GPU with the same VRAM, and the 7900XT isn't quite fast enough to merit upgrading. I want XTX, 4090, and MAYBE a 4080 Super, but the 16GB of VRAM pisses me off at 75% more than I paid for my current 16GB GPU. But I may opt for a used 4090 or just wait for the 5080/5090 and sell my RX6800 before it drops too much more in price. But damn, that RX6800 is an absolute BEAST at 1440p, especially in somewhat older games. I can still play lots of games at 4k 60fps like Far Cry 6 with Ultra/RT reflections, but RT shadows in that game suuuck lol so I Keep them off. But most games older than 2-3 years I can do 4k 60fps or 1440p 120fps no problem, which is good as my 4K TV is only 60hz but my 1440p monitor is 144hz.
ill say this much, upscaling and fluid motion tips the scale to amd's favour. This is a raw comparison but i just feel like amd isn't getting enough recognition for these "hidden values".
I just bought a Minisforum computer which includes the RTX 4060 which is the fastest mini computer because of that card. But in the future if there is a better low profile card I will definitely buy it and (hopefully) return back to AMD graphics. But the speed of the RTX 4060 far exceeds ANY integrated GPU on a laptop CPU.

At just 40 bucks, there's no reason to reduce to 16GB. This isn't 2018 anymore. Based on what I'm seeing on Partpicker, looks like 32GB starts at 53 bucks tho. A 16GB kit starts at $34. Personally, I find this to be a $20 very well spent.

I would like to have a 4060 for 250 but we are not in 2015. For some reason a lot of people think that 300 dollars now it´s what it was in 2015. The 1060 was 300, the 2060 was 350, the 3060 was 320

great video as always
just wanted to mention that the new drivers for amd specially the 7k series are just fantastic
ive never had a problem with the amd driver unlike how people think they might be even better than nvidia drivers
ive got only 1 error from the driver in past 8 months of owning the 7600 and it was because of something ive done not the driver
the huge problem here, is that rx 7600 makes the 4060 a good value, because of dlss upscaling ( which at resolutions targeted by these gpus is really fine)
heck you can even use dlss to upscale from 720p to 1440p or 4k and not ending up regretting that decision ,we will see when fsr 3.1 will available as mods for games , because right now , the 4060 is the better value of the 2
I wish these were more of a 6700XT competitor. Having 12GB Vram would be so good on these cards
Short version: Yes
The bad press is not bc of AMD, it's bc it has 128bit memory bus
Even Rx 7600 does has 128bit memory fool.
@@Scott99259only difference is that the 7600 is cheaper. That's it
That's why I can not upgrade my 3060 ti, my 3060 ti beats the 4060 by quite a bit and has 256 bit bus. I have no reason to upgrade right now.
@@Scott99259Yeah, but the 6600 also had a 128 bit bus width so no one was shocked to see this with the 7600. The RTX 3060, as well as almost every 60 class NVIDIA card comes with a 192 bit bus, so the 4060 is a big downgrade in that regard. It has more in common with a 4050 Ti than a 4060, which is what the 4070 realistically should have been.
Fun fact, a 4060 TI 16gb is a better card then the 3070 TI for 4k gaming. The 1% and 0.1% lows are WAAAAAY better because of the 16gb vram. I just wish my 3070 TI had 16gb of vram like my 4060 ti :(
I have a 7600 on my first build and it’s packed with 32gb of ram, and an intel i7 and it runs great, super impressive
Fail
So the 4060 is better AND smaller? Can’t justify that ridiculous size of the 7600, that’s a no-go from the start
Theres smaller versions of it. Take a look at the asus dual version of it and its almost the same size
Morale of the story:
Whatever Graphics Card you buy, no matter Nvidia or Radeon or Intel, *NEVER* *BUY* the ones with less than PCIe x16 Lanes.
Get one with PCIe x32 lanes instead!
Why?
I mean right now isn't a good time to get either of these GPU's as now we are beginning to enter the transition phase between GPU generations. You could either wait and save up more money to get something way better like an RTX 5070 or RX 8800 XT, or wait and spend way less on these GPUs. Likely 200 USD unlike the 300 they sell at now.

ill go with the 4060, because nvidia uses compression to reduce VRAM usage while AMD do gulp down ram like nobody's business.
8gb vram on nvidia is not the same as 8gb vram on amd.
coupled with less heat, less power draw and smaller form factor overall, 4060 is a no brainer vs the 7600.
Great realistic showdown. Thanks a lot!
I have a Ryzen 5 7500F got it before scalpers killed the prices. A OC’d 4060 and it plays 1440p at ease Idk what ya’ll are on VRAM isn’t everything when the GPU is really optimized which it is. It will be the next GTX 1060 for sure
To be fair to the RX 7600 raytracing performance, their lows .1% were identical, and some people might prefer more consistent fps than higher average.

Not every game developer will spend the time and resources to support DLSS 3.
the amd adrenalin software also got more options and is eye catching

I stopped listening to the big name "reviewers" that basically call people poor trash if they cannot afford $400+ for a GPU. I've had a RX7600 (the size of that 4060 in your video) for a year now and am happy with it, no problems gaming at 1440 75Hz. I have seen sale prices for the RX7600 drop into the low $200s.
Love that Steel Legend! I might buy one to go with my Asrock Steel Legend motherboard.
The answer is “depends how much it cost compared to the 7600 where you live”.
Helldivers 2 has just been fixed with a driver update. It's a lot faster.
Great comparison video, cheers m8:)
Granted, AMD is playing the exact same game.
i actually very much like it, was able to get one for not a bad price and it didnt cause me to have to upgrade my power supply!
i mean... for a budget PC the 4060 would be nice, if it wasnt overpriced wich is one of its major problem, maybe 225-250$ would make more sense.
That power draw comparison is really useful. Its a shame that there are no single fan latest gen AMD card for super SFF enthusiast

I picked up an RX 7600 just for plug and play Linux support.
People should always look at 1%, and not the avg! 1% lows define your hz and gaming experience and rx 7600 is far superior in that
Nvidia is at the peak of technology and features on the market.

I’m considering a GPU of this class to finally upgrade a PC from a 1070. Feels insane cards still have only 8GB.
Not sure where or how you came up with the total power consumption numbers, but when Techpowerup measured the actual power consumption through the pcie slot and 8pin connector for gaming, they had only a 27w difference …
RTX MSI 4060 8GB … 125w
RX 7600 8GB … … … 152w
Phoronix in their RTX 4060 vs.
Also, the 7600’s idle at lower watts than the 4060’s, techpowerup …
RX 7600 … … … … … … 2w
RX Sapphire Pulse 7600 … 4w
MSI RTX 4060 … … … 11w
Palit RTX 4060 … … … 14w
So, 15-20 hrs of lower idle should make up a few hrs of gaming.
And if you're looking on the used market, you might get lucky and find a 7600 for under $220 (seen them for around $200 at times). It's much more difficult to find a used 4060 for that price.
it is a128 bit card, you know the ones that used to be sold between 120-150$, even with inflation it should not have passed the 200$ mark
Now almost all the online retailers have both priced roughly same.
RTX4060 consumes 110W, RX7600 consumes 165W. I am paying $0.245/kWh. Hence I chose the RTX4060.
But the 4060 uses 53w idle and 7600 20w idle, so the 4060 is consuming more power when just powered on and not even gaming.
There's A BUNCH of Bifrost 7600s on eBay RIGHT NOW for $220 to $250
Literally just saw them. I don't need them just obsessed with GPUs. I Gotta 4060 laptop open box from Best Buy on Xmas Eve sale for ONLY $779!! And my desktop smashes that with my RX6800+5800X3D, but for a new gaming 60 series laptop, DAMN I gotta good deal!
Niether RX 7600 or RTX 4060 seems like progress vs the previous generations, especially $ per FPS.
Yeah, I think gains are very minimal over the rtx 3060 and the rx 6600xt
the only reason i want the rtx 4060 is due to its power efficiency
in my country somehow, RX 7600 has similar price with RTX 4060. It's a no brainer for people to go for RTX 4060.
I say at $20 more then a 7600 the 4060 is a easy pick. same fps better features better resale better basically everything
4060 is just a beast and it has a good price so shut up 3060 fans
ill say this much, upscaling and fluid motion tips the scale to amd's favour. This is a raw comparison but i just feel like amd isn't getting enough recognition for these "hidden values".
I gotta say those are pretty impressive scores for a 50 class Nvidia GPU.
Considering the power consumption from both GPU, and overall FPS looks similar, I prefer RTX 4060 for 1080p 60fps gaming.
Just refunded my 4060 it runs worse than my 3060 had no idea the 4060 was even this bad
I think comparing the 4060 to the 3060 is a little disingenuous since comparatively with die/spec it’s more like a 4050
I just bought a Minisforum computer which includes the RTX 4060 which is the fastest mini computer because of that card. But in the future if there is a better low profile card I will definitely buy it and (hopefully) return back to AMD graphics. But the speed of the RTX 4060 far exceeds ANY integrated GPU on a laptop CPU.
I really am surprised by the results. Think all the 8 GB VRAM cards were particularly poorly received at the initial, obscene launch prices.
128 bit
That Hell divers 2 outcome is a little off, AMD just did new drivers and it boosts frame quit a bit, like 20-30fps. I have an RX 6800.

The thing is the 7600 is $250 and the 7600 oc is $280.
And yet according to hardware unboxed the 7600 is a slower also consumes more power than the 4060 ( i would skip the 4060,7600 & 7600Xt All together tbh).
