If your purpose is just to play games, having 12GB of VRAM is too much for you. However, for video editing or rendering purposes, VRAM becomes crucial. Higher VRAM capacity can significantly impact rendering performance-the more, the better. But having 12GB VRAM on the RTX 3060 doesn't necessarily mean it outperforms the RTX 4060 8GB in rendering and video editing tasks. The RTX 4060, with its higher CUDA core count, can still excel despite its lower VRAM capacity. You'll only need higher VRAM if you're handling larger projects with extensive scenes and heavy textures. In terms of future-proofing, a higher VRAM size can make your GPU more future-proof. The RTX 3060 12GB can be considered future-proof in terms of VRAM size. However, the RTX 4060 is also future-proof due to its newer architecture, which may offer better compatibility with newer software and longer support from NVIDIA compared to the RTX 3060. Regarding power consumption, the RTX 4060 consumes less power than the RTX 3060 due to its newer architecture. If you live in a city with expensive energy costs, this difference in energy consumption should be a consideration. I hope it helps...😉
It is actually. Looking at how frame generation working you will need more vram. Like this guy didn't use amd fsr 3.1 . If he did you will see why 12gb is just better and also future proof
@@siddharthsahu7123 i would recommend 12gb or 16gb. 8GB is already too little for modern triple A games. I would recommend 12 or even 16 if that fits your budget. You could try a rx6800 with 16gb of vram, or if you want current gen you could try a 7700XT. A 8GB card probably wont do well running a modern game like GTA6.
@@gflash.1 rx6800 is not available in my place. I am considering rx7600 xt 16gb ( 32k inr) or rtx3060 12gb (24kinr) , rtx4060 8gb (28k inr) As per your suggestion I believe rtx3060 12gb is more futureproof than a rtx 4060 8gb
This comparison is a tiny bit misleading, because you're relying on the game's graphical presets. I'm presently playing HFW on a slightly downvolted RTX 3060 12gb, at 1080p. By researching which specific graphical settings are actually worth raising, and which ones are just wasting resources, I can get a steady 70-75 FPS pretty much everywhere with absolutely gorgeous graphics. And as for those 12gb of VRAM, they allow you to play with higher resolution textures which makes a big difference in graphical detail. And besides gaming, those 12gb come in handy for tinkering with AI image generation software, like Stable Diffusion.
I can get nice rate with my Zotac even my Titan sli can play elden ring on max and textures high is what I am looking at,as long as I get 60fps I am happy. And almost feel like I did not need the 3060 but it uses less power.I have the X370 with R7 5700g sli titans and the B550m with the 3060 r7 3700x and the newest games I have is RDR2 ,Elden Ring and Days gone. Both Machines look and play great.Rather sacrifice lighting and some shaders than textures.
If only the RTX 4060 has 10 gb vram instead of 8 with the same specs and price, it would be one of the best cards in history on Quality/ price value But the problem is that 12gb in the 3060 will be more helpful in the future games like gta 6 for example. Well, I think I will wait for the 5060 and let's hope it don't come with 8gb vram as well.
I have had a 4060 for 6 months and am reasonably happy - you can sense it's limits when pushing games at 1440p, but overall, as an entry level card this gen, it's decent. The energy consumption vs. performance delivered is a clear bonus. I will switch it out for a 4070 soon though, as I prefer gaming at 1440p and I think that would be better for my set-up. No regrets though and I will hold the card as a back up.
Why not 4070 SUPER? I have the SUPER and it's awesome. I think it's worth the small price difference. Here's my demo of how it performs when paired with the Ryzen 5 7600X - ruclips.net/video/s6XAbTdyfPo/видео.htmlsi=nsPO7MNLcMXTS3W4
@@bradlydrummondofficial if you did, the 16GB variant is the only one. If you go Intel you’ll need to keep waiting for their support of games to increase and drivers, but it’s pretty good. That leaves the AMD cards, which now with FSR3 and the frame gen that can even be modded into games, it’s pretty much the safest lineup for rasterization which is still mostly what games are designed around. Most gamers just don’t use raytracing, which leans in AMD cards favor tbh
192bit bus, full x16 lanes, 12gb vram .... and by applying ultra textures ,+ mods 12gb vram will definitely come in handy. ofc it will provide less fps than 4060 in some latest titles but it will be smooth and stable and atleast no texture blurrs or stutters.... and even framge generation needs more vram hence 4060 is already struggling on vram hungry games. the most + point of 4060 is its tdp and full av1 support. if 4060 had 12gb or 16gb vram then definitely it would be worthy but with 8gb vram and 128bit bus?! no
Many commenters do not realize that memory alone does not mean higher quality or better performance, now or in the future. This video perfectly shows how important technical progress is and how it affects the development of the technologies we use. Just look at the fact that other cards also have more memory, which does not mean that they have stood the test of time. If we are to rely solely on the amount of VRAM, we can say that 1080Ti or even 2080Ti should be better than 4060. Coming to the essence of the matter, many people only look at the numbers and do not realize that drivers, technical design, newer controllers, newer APIs are more important because the GPU can use its power more effectively. Likewise, we forget that developers optimizing their productions will not bother with GPU that is 3-4 years old or more, they will optimize their productions based on the latest architecture, which is why, among other things, slower RAM and its smaller amount do not affect lower performance. RTX 3060 is only better when you currently have it in terms of replacing the GPU, if you are building a new computer, never go back a few years because a few numbers are higher. Of course, we are talking about the case assuming a given budget, if you currently have a top-shelf GPU and you want a budget GPU, for it to be worth changing, you have to wait 2 and sometimes even 3 generations.
Whilst newer arcitecture of GPUs and CPUs result in better performance in general, vram does play a big roll in some games, the RE engine for example is very vram hungry, and the resident evil games actually run better on the 3060 12gb than it does on the 4060 8gb, because of the 4060s vram bottleneck, and even this video he shows how the 4060s lack of vram is effecting performance running frame generator wboch was developed for the 4000 series cards!! My advice for anyone, looking for a new card from this generation, would be either ignore the 4060 and just save up for a 4070, or if you must keep it around £400 go for a 7700xt, or if you are on a real budget, look at the used market and look for a 3070, 6700xt or if you can find one for a good price a 6800xt
@@adamduffield7782 I can't agree with everything you write about. Even though the 4060 has little VRAM, older cards were not always able to use this VRAM. Therefore, in 90% of cases, the 4060, despite the smaller amount of memory, is better than the 3060 12GB. My advice is to buy what someone can afford because prices vary depending on the region. In my case, the RX6700XT is about $50 more expensive than the 4060, which is a big difference, and used cards such as the 3070 are much more expensive than the new 4060. And not everyone wants a card from AMD, I also choose RTX over RX precisely because not only high numbers matter, but software changes a lot. As for the frame generator, the increase in memory consumption is not large, about 200-300 MB, so if the game uses around 7GB of VRAM, you can safely use it and gain a lot in terms of FPS. It should also be remembered that the cards from the ..60 series were not created with longevity in mind, these are budget cards and if we want to have a card for more than 2 or 3 years, we have to take into account higher expenses. Coming to the point, I recommend buying a card that you can afford, I personally will always choose the newer technology over the older one if we are talking about the same price (as in the case of 3060 and 4060).
I would go with the 4060. I don't like having to make that many compromises that came with the 3060. The 4060 preformed well especially in the Alan Wake test I thought it showed better than expected. Liked and subbed.
I have said in some other comments I made that I was not super happy with my RTX 4060 investment. That said, It is in my second rig and not primary. Also I forgot to mention that I do indeed think the RTX 4060 has a few things going for it. It's extremely power efficient, It's nice for upscaling thanks to DLSS and it does indeed have frame generation. Even if the VRAM kinda limits framegen in many cases. So far I have no issues doing 1440p with it in the modern games I have. Upscaling and textures a notch down and I have 60 fps +. It's not a bad card, but I think it should have been cheaper for what it is. But then again, graphics cards are kinda overpriced. Also, in this video it is very clear that the RTX 4060 is quite a bit better VS the 3060. Even though it's nice that the 3060 has 12GB VRAM, in many cases it doesn't have the GPU power to back up that VRAM.
tbh because of that there is almost no reason to get the 4060 8gb. esp when the 3060 can be used as a 1440p card with upscaling, dlss, and fsr framegen or lossless scaling
I chose the 4060 simply because of the low heat and low power draw. It is absolutely paramount in sff build. People shit on frame gen, but it's an absolute dream in racing/sim games. But if you play mostly fps games, then it's dogshit.
Just to clarification RTX 3060 better for old PC limited 16gb RAM. RTX 4060 if you have modern PC fully pci-e 4 (limited x8), rebar enable with 32gb RAM for not stuttering add nice m2 with cache Ram.

The RTX 4060 is a very good card for 1080p gaming. Especially when your monitor runs at 60 Hz. There is a lot of criticism for this card, which I totally understand. 4GB more VRAM and a 192 bit interface would have made this card a beast. And that is exactly the point why NVIDIA cut the specs for not interfering with their own products.

Speaking from experience and personal testing, I do video editing and rendering. I compared the RTX 3060 Ventus 2 vs the Asus RTX 4060 and the difference was night and day. It takes the 4060 to compile 2 times faster than the 3060. Both were the same price at around $300.
I get wanting 60+ fps, but without the data onscreen, can you even tell when there are small dips in framerate or when it is steady in the 45-60 fps range.
We all perceive the world around us differently. I feel the difference between 45 FPS and 60 FPS. I can also tell without looking at on-screen stats when FPS goes above 100. Image presented on screen becomes smoother and much more pleasant when it reaches close to 120 FPS.
Did you do anything to your POV footage? I usually get motion sickness on any 1st person video, but your footage didn't trigger it. Maybe it has to do with the stabilization or how smoothly it moves. Regardless, great video!

The 8GB on both 4060 and 4060 Ti is really a shame. The 4060 Ti 16GB becomes a completely useable 60fps 1440p GPU just because of the extra VRAM because it can actually use FG effectively.
I wanted to get my hands on one of them 16GB 4060 Ti for a while. But it eludes me still. After seeing how 12GB didn't save the 3060 I can't stop wondering if the 16GB 4060 Ti may be similar to it - large VRAM but not enough compute power to take advantage of it properly.
@@theivadim I'm thinking of doing a sort of response to your 4060 Ti video on my channel with the 16GB version. In my testing of the card I believe the VRAM is more useful on the 4060 Ti vs the 3060 because of the 40 series features, I'm getting very good results at 1440p with DLSS + Frame Gen.
Because on 3060, only maxed out textures that we are gloried about although 3060 also have Frame Generation too (by mod of course) and it consumes VRAM too. For 4060 Ti, those VRAM would be much useful because of all the bells and whistles, RTX, Frame Generation and NVIDIA FG actually uses more VRAM than AMD. Nobody uses Ray Tracing on a 3060 I guess so that makes sense why 4060 Ti 16GB will literally save a 4060 Ti than 12GB on 3060.
I'm still running a 1650. I think the 4060 is a fantastic card, but it was and is significantly over cost for the midrange we want. Prior to covid, there was a midrange of 150-200£. The midrange needs to get back to here really. I have one angle where I would take the 3060, and that is with AI and compute. The extra ram is a true benefit in that area.
It is highly unlikely that GPUs in ~£200 range will be as good as they used to be. The industry is changing. Even the £300 GPUs kinda suck nowadays. And there is no evidence that this trend will change course.
@@GRIGGINS1 The gutting of midrange started well before the inflation cycle hit. There are other factors like cards being kitted with more RAM. But even with this, its_not merely due to inflation and BOM supply.
@AdmV0rl0n inflation has a cascade effect on a lot of things I work for Gerber. I am sure you heard of this company. Since 2020 the cost of production, warehousing, Electrical supply , maintenance and transportation has driven up all of our costs. Add in a few supply chain bottlenecks and prices rise. I am not even gonna mention the local, state and Federal taxes the company must pay. It is the same for all companies now. Just giving you perspective from the other side.
@@GRIGGINS1 While it has, I think you misunderstand several things. Areas like crypto mining, Data centre, and more - played greater parts than merely inflation. Supply chain and covid also. Nvidia don't make a cheap midrange card now, not because they can't, but they just don't. Take a hard look at their balance sheet and see why. Intel ARC cards offer great value, and are not immunte to suipply chain or similar. The problem isn't merely inflation. I'm sorry but its not.

If you want lowest latency in controls you must lock your FPS so your sistem not to suffer all the time giving you max fps possible. Lock them in some sweet spot avarage FPS specially if you have 60hz monitor, lock the game in 60, there is no point to have 80 fps, on 60hz monitor that cannot show you that, and have heavy latency... So use locking FPS options in the game or drivers or Vsync depend what you like more and yeah most important. You will lower the temperature of your System by locking FPS, the system will not struggle to push all hardware to the max just to show you max FPS... Have a nice day!
You just sound like a paid agent for advertising nvidias 40 series. In most of these cases having 10 fps more doesnt matter because i guarantee it will drop below 60 often with the 4060 anyway and is much more prone to stuttering with 8gb vram. Not to mention the reduced bus width etc etc
The reduced buswidth is a non issue for 40series. Nvidia put in the work to make sure that they didn't have to give you the same buswidth to achieve the same performance.. this is because they didn't want to have to give you double the VRAM for a certain tier. This is why every teir has a lower memory bus. 40 series is designed to not need as many memory chips for a certain performance. Just look at 3090(12 memory channels) vs 4070ti(6 memory channels). But yeah. Vram amounts suck. Nvidia should have just kept all bus width the same per tier and just doubled the vram but it's Nvidia. They're cruel and evil and willing to fuck ignorant consumers for an extra buck.
@@christophermullins7163 I wouldnt call nvidia evil. Its the way the world works - companies want to profit. I blame the people (sheeple) who cant take like 2-3 days to research a bit before buying. Computer technology on the consumer level is really not complicated. But im just ranting now.

I hope you can answer my question n thank you.
Good decision. Always upgrade the GPU first as it'll give you the biggest performance boost. It'll work OK. You can worry about upgrading other parts later.
Same here.. I feel like my 1660s is finished now. But I'm really struggeling with choosing the best card. The 3060 have 12 vram so it will be more helpful in the future than 8 vram but the 4060 gives better performance with 8 vram. So I made my decision and I think I will wait for the 5060
I was surprised by this. If we put frame generation aside, I'm not sure why 4060 would still be performing 40% better in this selection of recent AAA games. The cynic in me says the game devs and nvidia driver devs have worked with each other to make certain optimisations only for the new gen, and perhaps excluded those optimisations from previous gen. This would be convenient as it shows off how much better the new gen is, which in turn creates more demand for them. The previous gen has 50% more ram, 50% wider memory bus, 16% more cuda cores, but 38% slower clock speed. Could it be that the latest AAA games just favour clockspeed above all else? But on another selection of games there are supposedly more like 10-15% difference in performance, so that makes me think it's something about these particular games that just likes the 4060 so much more. And the 4060 you chose was a cheap little one with a pathetic cooler, and it still beat the 3060 dramatically on your 3 test games.
This little 4060 performs the same as a bigger one would in these room temperature conditions. But this little cooler does begin to struggle if the room temperature gets above 23-25C. Fans starts running at 100% and GPU throttles🙂 You could be right about optimisations. NVIDIA certainly prioritises newer products. I don't know about game devs though, because their priority is to sell as many copies of their game as possible. And there are a lot of RTX 3060 users out there🙂 Many more than RTX 4060 users.
@@theivadim Just looking at more benchmarks from various places and yes it seems 4060 is about 25% faster across the board, which is consistent with your findings. I think it is most likely the faster clock speed giving the 4060 the advantage as that is the only hardware parameter where it significantly excels over 3060. I could be wrong, but a 38% faster clock is quite a lot, that has got to count for something. I just bought 3060 ventus 2x, waiting for it to arrive. I don't have buyer's remorse as I wanted it for win7 backwards compatibility, lower price, and I don't play AAA games just older PC games, emulators, and HTPC (MadVR)
They have other models that look very similar to this one but use other materials to bring the cost to under $100. But I don't have any experience with any of those. So, can't comment on their quality or value.🙂

Depends on the game. But in this case I wasn't increasing just texture quality. I was using presets. Presets include all settings. Sure, you could tinker with the graphics settings in all these games to find something more or less useful for the RTX 3060. But few people have time or even desire to do so. I always use presets. With very rare exceptions. And what's the point when you don't have to deal with such things if you choose the RTX 4060 instead.
@@theivadim Yeah, it is a hassle to check so much every time. But with my 1080 Ti for all those years I always just set textures to the highest and left it, one advantage of that ancient beast. 11GB is just now starting to be a problem once in a while but still rare especially if at 1080p.
Oh, and I just meant that the 12GB on the 3060 isn't useless if it allows you to set textures to the highest. All cards should be 12GB or more. I could be totally wrong anyways, but I've always heard that texture quality doesn't affect performance unless it goes over allocated gpu ram and has to swap.
Indeed, all cards should be at least 12GB in 2024. With that I absolutely agree🤝🙂 1080 Ti = epic card💪 I used it to game at 4K when it first came out. Oh how fast the progress is moving.
@@theivadim I mean it doesn't take much time or research to just go into settings and crank textures to max after selecting your ideal preset. For example in HZD FW you can just go with medium preset + max textures. Same thing in 1440p but using DLSS. I mean the 4060 will have trouble using its main feature, FG because FG eats up more vram. The real 4060 is the 4060ti but with 192bit bus + 12gb of vram. Had that been the case, it'd have beaten the 3070ti and not been far off the current 4070. Likely within 10-20% of it. Which makes the 4070 more akin to a glorified 4060ti. The 4060 is really just a glorified and OC'd 4050ti. And even at that it fails as it really should've been a 160bit 10gb card with a 75w and 100w version. The laptop 4050, if given a 128bit bus with 8gb of vram, would've been the real 4050 and it too should've had a 75w and 90w version.
I think that both options suck. But I'd pick the RTX 4060 because it has a bit more life in it thanks to higher compute power. RTX 3060 struggles to deliver good FPS in the latest games already. It's not able to utilise that 12GB of memory because the GPU is not powerful enough to deliver high enough FPS at higher graphics presets. Unless you are prepared to tweak all settings individually for every game. Every time. But then you could also do that for the 4060. So, no matter how it's twisted the 4060 still comes out on top in my opinion.
@@theivadim Thanks for the reply, Do you think there are other GPU options right now, that are in this price range also, but better? Or this is it. We're stuck with this two :D
AMD is no better. Unfortunately, we're stuck with two crap choices in this price range. I'd pick the 4060 because at least you can have a good time with it today while the 3060 performance is lacking. If the price is the same or close then it's not even a competition imho.
@@theivadimYes also the 4060 gives you 20% better performance for half the power draw, better ray tracing more stable frametime,it also give frame generation ehich is really good for weaker cpu just for extra 20$morr
Indeed, that is my take on it. The extra memory is useless if the GPU is not powerful enough to take advantage of it to run the latest games at 60+ FPS consistently.
@@theivadim I'm not sure we can say the GPU itself is not powerful enough to take advantage of 12GB. For all we know it could be the game which cannot, or does not, take advantage of it. What do you store in VRAM? What is VRAM for primarily? What does it help with? Rasterisation at higher resolutions? Keeping textures and assets in memory to avoid having to swap them to system RAM? Do you need a specific clockspeed to take advantage of VRAM? (clockspeed is 4060's main hardware advantage it seems). I'm asking because in other tests on other channel with Cyberpunk there were less microstutters on 3060 which youtuber attributed to higher VRAM -- 3060 was actively using 10GB and 4060 was using 6GB. But I have no idea if VRAM was the reason, for all I know it could just be a baseless claim. "Oh look, 3060 has more memory, and it's running better, so it must be the memory". Without knowing how the game engine works I don't know if that's true.
@@Animal_lives_matter That could be the case. However, what I care about in the first place is the experience a product delivers. There could be a multitude of reasons why a product's full potential is not being utilised. An average user simply want to buy a product that delivers a good experience. Not fight with these companies for fair practices or improving performance of the GPU they haven't even purchased yet. They'll simply buy a product that works well out of the box to enjoy games today. At least that's how I approach this matter when picking new products I'd like to buy.
@@theivadim Yep fair point. I think for the vast majority of people the 4060 is the obvious winner. The lower power consumption alone makes it preferable.
Both options aren’t great, but I’d rather buy the RTX 3070. Honestly, it’s nearly impossible to recommend an NVIDIA GPU that isn’t the RTX 4070 SUPER or better.
"Some pixels are ai generated" bruuuu Nvidia said "for every pixel we read, ai will generate 7 other pixels" only 1/8 of every pixels is actually read by the gpu, the rest is ai generated
Hello sir please help me out iam planning to pair i5 12400f with 3060 because of vram as i use davinci resolve and gaming should i go with it or buy 4060 which would be ideal for my requirements
I have watched a lot of comparisons between 4060ti 8Gb and the normal 4060 8Gb. I felt that there is little difference and I am doing a quick review between the two balls
So, in conclusion, in this video, 3060 has 12GB of ram, but 4060 runs smoother and with more fps. For future games like GTA 6, for example, (i know requirements are not yet available but judging by speculations) do you think that 4060 is worth more than 3060 or not?
It is impossible to predict something that is still years away. Don't expect GTA 6 to launch on PC so soon. As for the current games, game developers don't have another choice. They optimise 1080p experience with the 8GB RTX 4060 in mind because a lot of people have it and will keep buying it in the near future. So, if they want to sell their games then they must make sure that they run well on the 4060. What will happen in 2-5 years is anyones guess.
we have gaming monitors that are 240mhz and up and they are offing us 60mhz aka 60fps video cards... look like ill be gaming on 320p resolution for the rest of my life to hit these frame rates i want to hit
Relying on frame generation quite a bit, not that it's a bad thing But I feel it's a bit biased So, in essence, a bit misleading. Don't get me wrong. I like the video. Keep up the good work.
Hellsovers 2 is broken. Fps drops to 15-20 when theres a ton of enemies and explosions in 4 players online. Sad thing is the game is using a really old engine (bitsquid)
I haven't had the pleasure to experience the 3060 Ti myself. But according to Techspot, the 3060 Ti performs significantly better than the 4060. By about the same amount as 4060 vs 3060. The benchmark data can be found here - www.techspot.com/review/2794-amd-radeon-7600-xt/
Congrats Brother 🎉 I hope I will make a good decision soon. Basically what matters more is smooth media playback and Video editing performance ( with newer gen )
this is a red flag for me cause u are using FG when the 3060 doesn't have that,go and compare the 2 without FG seens obv the 4060 has an advantage on that but it will struggle in VRAM in more demanding games
how is that bad? one has nvidia fg other doesnt, so of course that is a feature worth considering, if you are choosing between 2 things that cost the same. Like if comparing 2 power tools for the same price, one goes 6000 rpm other goes 3000 rpm Why didnt you set both to 3000 rpm??? BRO
Depends on the game though. In most games DLAA is basically 1 or 2 fps more intensive than TAA. Unlike in Cyberpunk for example, it could cost like 20 fps or more.
RTX 4060 is the most power-efficient card now, taking the place of RX 6600 in terms of frame per watt. I hope RTX 5060 will be more efficient at 75 watts and we will not need additional power cable.
I appreciate the feedback and you watching my video.🤝 I'm still experimenting with this new format. But it's growing on me. So, I think I'll continue doing video FPV style🙂

The RTX 4060 build for extra 500 Euros is absolutely not worth it. No way!🙅♂️ And as for the future, we'll have to wait and see what the RTX 50-series brings. NVIDIA has the potential to either pleasantly surprise us or horribly disappoint when it comes to RTX 5060/70 cards. No one knows yet how they'll configure those cards. Also, 5060/70 cards are still many many months away. 5090 and 5080 will launch first. If I wanted a low to mid-tier GPU now then I wouldn't wait until RTX 50-series. The wait is too long imho. Furthermore, I'd recommend looking into moving to a 1440p monitor. DLSS is so good now that you can enjoy games on a 1440p monitor and it'll be a more pleasant experience than 1080p. Thanks to DLSS I use the RTX 4070 SUPER to play games on a 4K monitor using DLSS Quality or Balanced. Good stuff.
I haven’t tried that. But logic tells me that newer GPU should have a better media engine for faster rendering and smoother timeline performance. Additionally, RTX 4060 supports AV1 codec.

🤷♂️idk. The 4060 is fine. Not perfect, but fine. If you're looking to spend around $300 on a GPU then the RTX 4060 is the way to go, imho. The next level up after that is the RTX 4070. I think that 4060 Ti is not a good buy in terms of value.
@@theivadim If you want to know why 4060 is a bad card for its price point, watch Hardware Unboxed's review or Gamer Nexus's review. The 4060 should've been 200 USD or less to make it a great buy. The 4060 is slower than the 3060 Ti, which is disappointing. One commenter from that video said, "Nvidia needs to realize that frame gen does not make up for bad performance, and that 99% of games do not use frame gen, and literally anything other than gaming doesn't benefit from it either, raw performance matters." Fewer 4 GB of VRAM than the 3060, 128-bit instead of 192-bit on the 3060, 272 GB/s memory bandwidth compared to 360 GB/s on the 3060. This comment from Vex's video "Nvidia’s Insane Success and Greed is leading to Self-Destruction." said, "GPUs are for more than just playing games. People need high VRAM for huge Blender projects and professional CAD. Right now is like back before Ryzen when you had to get an Intel HEDT for higher core counts. Up until Ada you needed a Quadro or a 3090 for higher VRAM. Ada at least got more than 8GB to the 80 and 70 tier cards but it's still a $500 premium. That's why AMD is doing well with professionals, with 16GB of VRAM for just $320 on the 7600 XT being an absolute steal. So don't assume everything is for games, you're making a complete fool out of yourself."
in some games the 3060 is better in some games the 4060 is better it mostly depends if the game has DLSS if it doesn't it will probably have DLSS in the future

by future games do you mean in 2028, when its time to upgrade ? you have access to frame generation with it (this guy doesnt know, i guess) and dlss (everything nvidia and amd have to offer + more really). it will def be fine for gta 6. he didnt even go above 1080p or higher textures where the 3060 12gb will destroy the 4060 8gb. i just bought the card for 200 and i am gonna enjoy it for a loooooooooong time on my 4k 60fps 50in tv. anything 30 - 60 fps is fine with me. sounds like someone got the baby 8==D with 8 gb vram 🤣
The reason nvidia and amd won't give you good budget options is because why bother? People often defend the 4060 by saying its efficient and the performance is ''good enough''. Its not. Nobody even points out that from specs and performance, its more akin to a 4050ti. I mean I've seen people even defend the 8gb of vram. Why bother releasing good value cards? Nvidia realized their ''mistake'' when they made pascal too good. They aren't going to repeat that. And trust me, AMD made the same mistake with rx6000. They're no better than nvidia overall. They too will follow nvidia's example. The rx5500xt, 6500xt and 3050 all have had 8gb of vram. Thats 3 generations of xx50 class having 8gb of vram. Its about time they got a boost. 4060 should've been a 4050ti with a 160bit bus and 10gb of vram. That too with a 75w version and 100w version, so we can actually utilize its efficiency. 4050 should've been the laptop 4050 but with a 128bit bus and 8gb of vram. And had a 75w and 90w version. I mean the 1050 and 1650 had this. But, I don't think the future of 8gb cards will be as bleak some people say because what games you play dictate how much vram you'll need. AAA games suck in general. From being just interactive movies to unoptimized ports to incredibly boring in general, why bother? A lot of folks are shifting to modding older games, playing older titles or just playing indie titles. Besides, upgrade cycles have increased now as well. And likely will continue given how things are going. I mean the fact, that pascal, which is 7 years old now, is STILL relevant, to the point that remedy had to optimize AW2 specifically for pascal, just goes to show how little people have started to care about new AAA titles. I wouldn't suggest waiting on the rtx 5000 series considering the 5060 will be another crap 128bit 8gb card.

If he did you will see why 12gb is just better and also future proof
as soon as you get into 1440p 8gb isnt enough. my 8gb 6650xt runs out of Vram in forza horizon 5 + jedi survivor max both on max settings 1080p
Which one is better more future proof for gta 6
@@siddharthsahu7123 i would recommend 12gb or 16gb. 8GB is already too little for modern triple A games. I would recommend 12 or even 16 if that fits your budget. You could try a rx6800 with 16gb of vram, or if you want current gen you could try a 7700XT. A 8GB card probably wont do well running a modern game like GTA6.
@@gflash.1 rx6800 is not available in my place. I am considering rx7600 xt 16gb ( 32k inr) or rtx3060 12gb (24kinr) , rtx4060 8gb (28k inr)
As per your suggestion I believe rtx3060 12gb is more futureproof than a rtx 4060 8gb
If only the RTX 4060 has 10 gb vram instead of 8 with the same specs and price, it would be one of the best cards in history on Quality/ price value
But the problem is that 12gb in the 3060 will be more helpful in the future games like gta 6 for example.
Here's my demo of how it performs when paired with the Ryzen 5 7600X - ruclips.net/video/s6XAbTdyfPo/видео.htmlsi=nsPO7MNLcMXTS3W4
the RTX 3060(12gb) runs games at 1440p decent enough cause resolution demands more VRAM and the 4060 doesn't have that

I wish the 3070 Ti had 12GB. More memory would've helped that GPU a lot in 2024🙂
Whilst newer arcitecture of GPUs and CPUs result in better performance in general, vram does play a big roll in some games, the RE engine for example is very vram hungry, and the resident evil games actually run better on the 3060 12gb than it does on the 4060 8gb, because of the 4060s vram bottleneck, and even this video he shows how the 4060s lack of vram is effecting performance running frame generator wboch was developed for the 4000 series cards!!

I mean I buy the normal rtx 4060 8gb
@@PuffinTechYT good stuff👍 It'll be interesting to see the results.
Inflation is a thing. The price of everything has gone up. Some gamers are memory holing this.
@@GRIGGINS1 While it has, I think you misunderstand several things. Areas like crypto mining, Data centre, and more - played greater parts than merely inflation. Supply chain and covid also.

The 3060 have 12 vram so it will be more helpful in the future than 8 vram but the 4060 gives better performance with 8 vram.
So I made my decision and I think I will wait for the 5060
@@Apilot-yo6ex I am also considering the upgrade since 1660 S comes to it's knees with newer titles... 😕
Fans starts running at 100% and GPU throttles🙂
You could be right about optimisations. NVIDIA certainly prioritises newer products. I don't know about game devs though, because their priority is to sell as many copies of their game as possible. And there are a lot of RTX 3060 users out there🙂 Many more than RTX 4060 users.
@@theivadim
Just looking at more benchmarks from various places and yes it seems 4060 is about 25% faster across the board, which is consistent with your findings.

Wat about using dlss at the same time using fsr frame gen in rtx 3060
I thought that higher texture settings come with almost no fps cost as long as gpu memory was sufficient in most games.
The laptop 4050, if given a 128bit bus with 8gb of vram, would've been the real 4050 and it too should've had a 75w and 90w version.
which motherboard do you use ?
In this video, I'm using MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI.
Would you say at the long run, getting 4060 is better than 3060? My only concern is not having 12gb of VRAM. But than again, less fps... Idk.

@@theivadim u do not need 60+ fps on a SP game

I'm not sure we can say the GPU itself is not powerful enough to take advantage of 12GB.

Indeed. In Horizon DLAA and TAA performance is very similar. DLAA looks better in my opinion.
RTX 4060 is the most power-efficient card now, taking the place of RX 6600 in terms of frame per watt. I hope RTX 5060 will be more efficient at 75 watts and we will not need additional power cable.
Fuck that. Let RTX 5060 eat at least 170W and give it great performance jump.
Having more FPS with Frame Generation doesn't mean smooth experience , FG is kinda fake.
Or do what I did and for the same price get an RX 6750 XT which is faster than both and also has the 12GB of VRAM.
i dig the 1st person POV
I appreciate the feedback and you watching my video.🤝 I'm still experimenting with this new format. But it's growing on me. So, I think I'll continue doing video FPV style🙂
Av got the gtx 1070ti seems yo preform like the 3060 I get between 70 and 60 GPS on helldivers
I'll take RX 6750 XT for $320, Alex! (RIP)
You could pay a bit less
with amd you get more performance for less money, for anyone who is looking to buy a new gpu consider amd
At the moment here in Australia on Amazon the 3060 and the 4060 are the same price!
That's crazy😀
try 2K and 4K and you will see the work of that 12GB VRAM
even in 1080p high textures im running over 8gb with 4060 after playing for long time or fast travelling few times xd. So its not gonna last and im upgrading when rtx 5xxx and rx 8xxx comes out
True that. DLSS and 12 GB rocks
@@MisDzidziela even 12 will be bare minimum in next years I think so cuz these new games are joke
rtx3060 12gb vs rtx4060 when i got a bew pc prebuilt(why some ask...i cant build myself)
The price on the parts n gpus was not extremly different but the prebuilt pc was about 500euro more expensive w a rtx4060 vs rtx3060ti or 12gb version so thats why i got a rtx3060 12gb and a huge fact was that people told me to get w 12gb so i dont need trouble like w old gtx1650 4gb gpu i had n gamed on before(horrible when the vram just aint enough)
So was it stupid is what i still ask myself when i see that the rtx4060 has alot of more fps in almost all games(a few games that demands over 8gb vram that are peretty close w the older 30series gpu)
500 euro difference would it have been worth it in 2023/12/31 so about 6 months back now..
Also what will i need to save up to next time to be able to game in 1080p ultra settings w r.t on??
example rtx4070ti or super in a prebuilt w a ok cpu that works ok w the gpu will this be enough in about 12months or 18months even??
I know that the 50series rtx fpus are soon comming so the rtx5060 and rtx5070 how will they compare to todays higly used 1080p gaming cards(rtx3060/4060 and amds gpus)
Will it(mayby)Be better to get a rtx5060 when it comes vs a rtx4070ti prebuilt pc...This is pretty hard to say before info has come about the hardware i guess??
Anyway 1080p max settings with Ray tracing at maximum what is n will be needed to run it for me in 1years time up to 18months(if we say 10-15% increase in games that will come vs whats needed today for same gameplay at maximum in 1080p)
Hope u understand what i try to ask(dont know this stuff n dont really know where to look either to be 100% sure)
Thanks 4 this great video alot of info
Good stuff.
@@theivadim Thanks been thinking alot if i were stupid to not get the 4060..but as u say for the price Nope..
Which one is better for only video editing
I haven’t tried that. But logic tells me that newer GPU should have a better media engine for faster rendering and smoother timeline performance. Additionally, RTX 4060 supports AV1 codec.
Thanks!
Guy with Russian accent talking about FPS makes me nostalgic for FPSRussia channel.
Sir, may you please please share how 3060 and 4060 perform in media playbacks. I am very confused and have asked many many Indian ytbers 😢 to compare the media performance as well, but No response yet.
I have a 1440p monitor, i5 12400,16gm ram, 1 TB ssd, No GPU.
****💥💥Please compare 4060 and 3060 (12gb) for 4K H265 HDR movies (16-24 GB files). I use VLC all the time.💥💥****
And if possible, Test the cuda performance of both the cards for video editing. (Though it is definite that 3060 with 192 bit & 12gb vram perform better ....but If cuda performs good in 4060, that Will help me get a 4060 more probably
I don't have any of these GPUs on hand anymore. So, I'm afraid I can't help you with this.
Why others hate the RTX 4060 ? should i get the 4060 or save up some more for the 4060 Ti ?
Get the 7700 xt
One commenter from that video said, "Nvidia needs to realize that frame gen does not make up for bad performance, and that 99% of games do not use frame gen, and literally anything other than gaming doesn't benefit from it either, raw performance matters."
Fewer 4 GB of VRAM than the 3060, 128-bit instead of 192-bit on the 3060, 272 GB/s memory bandwidth compared to 360 GB/s on the 3060.
But at higher resolution rtx 3060 will perform better thanks to that vram
Why the fuck they made single fan gpu just to price it 300 dollars
in some games the 3060 is better in some games the 4060 is better it mostly depends if the game has DLSS if it doesn't it will probably have DLSS in the future
What games are those? In my experience, the 4060 is significantly better across the board.
@@theivadim i think some vr games run better on the 3060 because it has more vram
Buy neither! Get a RX 7700 xt it crushes even rtx 4070
i bought a 3060 12gb recently and its fine ...... but with 9700kf cpu i probably shouldnt put anything higher even a 3060 is too much probably for this ancient of a cpu
If i was buying a new one of course the 4060 and my old sli titans can play rdr2 better than my 3060 for some reason in that game.Elden ring and days gone are my newest games and i can play them on my sli titans but I prefer my other eco friendly 3060,And when winter comes we break out and OC with the titans to keep warm.Better than a 120w space heater.Litterally.
Yup Bro Best Is Try To Buy Or Push Limit For Rx 7900 Gre Or Else Rtx 4070 Super 😅
Or Else Play With Decent 1080 P Medium + Very High Settings In Rtx 4060 Or Rx 6700 Xt
True. But sometimes one just can't exceed their budget to get a 4070 SUPER🙂 Even tho lower tier cards are not that good this generation.
@@theivadim 😅Yup Sir
How do people say that when 3060 literally was half as good lol
People buying this weak garbage 3060 and thinking that 12gb vram will save this card 😂. Enjoy 20 fps in future games with 12gb vram😂.
by future games do you mean in 2028, when its time to upgrade ? you have access to frame generation with it (this guy doesnt know, i guess) and dlss (everything nvidia and amd have to offer + more really). it will def be fine for gta 6. he didnt even go above 1080p or higher textures where the 3060 12gb will destroy the 4060 8gb. i just bought the card for 200 and i am gonna enjoy it for a loooooooooong time on my 4k 60fps 50in tv. anything 30 - 60 fps is fine with me. sounds like someone got the baby 8==D with 8 gb vram 🤣
this dude bought a 8gb 4060. whats wrong with you bruh ??? trying to get other people to make the same mistake you did ??? fk off👎
Indeed. 12GB of memory would've saved the 3070 Ti but not the 3060.
Still rocking my 3060 ti fe😁
I was 1050ti then i upgraded to 4060 and oh boy 115watts is insane
8gb isn’t enough anymore.
