    New to the channel, great video especially like the detail and the separate graphic to show the 1% low data (subscribe button hit) . Please could you increase how long each benchmark is on screen by a couple of seconds, couldn’t quite hit pause quick enough on my IPad. When I upgraded to a 4090 I genuinely thought I might need to upgrade from my 5800x3d, however I’ve been really surprised at how well it keeps up. Me and my mate have almost identical systems except he has a 7800x3d. With 4090FE’s at 3440 x 1440p (using IceManIsaac’s settings) in COD we found a roughly 9% difference in average fps. I was hitting around 211 fps with the 5800x3d. My monitor maxes out at 175hz so I cap at that anyway and it rarely dips below that. I don’t think I’ll upgrade my platform now unless I upgrade to a 5090 (I really like using ray/path tracing in games like Alan Wake 2). Unless it makes a meaningful difference (min 30% uplift at 3440 x 1440p) I probably wait and upgrade my platform sometime before the 60 series release date.

    Upgraded from a 3600 to a 5800X3D a little over a week ago. With a 3090 the difference between 1440p and especially 4K is at most negligible so I decided to stick with AM4. If I had access to the amazing bundles that MicroCenter offers I might've considered AM5, but the closest one is a 12 hour flight away... The plan is to wait at least for Zen5X3D discounts, possibly even Zen 6 before upgrading.

      The only thing I noticed was the 1% low increase, that was pretty consistent across games. I think when the next gen chips come out it might make sense because AM5 will be more mature, but the reality is if you are gaming at high resolution and settings the 5800x3d is more than enough.

    For those of us already having a 7700X we ask if you would put a 5800X3d vs 7700X, instead of jumping to a 7800X3d, putting to rest the idea that changing processors every year is a waste of time and looking forward to 9800X3d. By doing this we could invest in a 4K good monitor which by the way would still run 1080 ultra, 1440 ultra and 4K. Thinking like this will save us possibly another large chunk of money in Processors and or RAM while still at the same time we could keep our older 5000 series processors. One more thing I have a EVGA 3090 TI Ultra. It is far better than stock 3090 TI and can overclock very high on its own. Bringing another question. Should we just jump ship and run to a 7900XTX or RTX 4000 series, as what seems to be nothing more than hype by manufacturers tantalizing us to buy their latest GPU's.
    And i have a ASRock 6900XT Formula OC well ventilated with additional fans blowing air directly to this GPU from the bottom.
    I already asked to many questions, often I get asked the same questions, maybe just maybe help with one.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  5 месяцев назад

      Great questions and no problem at all. In one of my earlier videos I tested a 7700X versus a 7800X3D. There are specific gaming titles, such as MS Flight Sim, that benefit greatly from the 3D V-Cache, but if you are not playing those games and you play at higher resolutions then there is not a meaningful jump in performance. If you currently have a 7700X I definitely wouldn't upgrade until the 9000 series comes along.
      The 3090 Ti is a great card but it is really power hungry. If that isn't an issue for you and you are happy with your gaming performance I would wait. If the recent rumors are true then the new Intel Battlemage GPU's look like they may shake-up the industry with respect to pricing (4080 levels of performance at half the price), so waiting may allow you to get a lot more for your $ in the near future. I really don't think you are missing out on much with your current GPU.

    i have seen that the X3D chips usually give a pretty substantial boost in performance compared to the regular chips. I've currently got a 5800x paired with a 3070, which honestly works fine for me, although i ive had this combo for nearly 2.5 years. I am thinking of upgrading maybe to like a 7900XT or something, to get some better performance on 1440p, and some of the games I play tend to be more CPU intensive, like fortnite for example, and i think on my 5800x i will definitely be CPU bound in some scenarios, and would also want to upgrade my CPU with it but it would be pricey to have to get an AM5 motherboard and ram with the CPU.
    but i feel like upgrading from a 5800x to a 5800x3D wouldnt be that worth an upgrade? seems weird to upgrade to just the 3D version of what i already have. not really sure what to do tbh. im honestly debating on just doing a PC overhaul this summer and just getting an 7800x3D and a 7900XT, it will be expensive but i'll have great futureproof having AM5 and with high end specs like that i could probably keep those parts for much longer than ive had my current setup for.

      @blackbirdpctech  5 месяцев назад

      If I was you I would keep your current cpu until you are ready to upgrade to AM5. You could get your new gpu sooner and upgrade the rest of your system later. That might give you enough time to skip a generation and get a new 9000 series cpu later in the year.

    • @thomasgessert8518
      @thomasgessert8518 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, because if you have a weaker GPU your games will be GPU bound sooner, i.e. the CPU is waiting more for the GPU to process the frame. But it depends on the games you play, a simulation might use more CPU resources than a shooter.

    I liked your video I too an AMD 580x3d, 7800x3d, a 7700X and others my test was Gigabyte X570s Aorus Master rev1 vs Gigabyte 670E Aorus Master both with 32GB of ran populated in ram slot 2 and 4. Both G.Skils Ripjaws DDR 4 4000 CL18 for the 5800X3D and DDR5 6000 CL36 for the 780X3d and just for fun I also ran the same test using an AMD 7700X
    The results were close and it didn't matter which Processor I used because they were so close any one of these processors worked equally. I guess if I had DDR4 4600 and a lower clock speed the 5800X3D would be equal and or so close would wait at least several AMD Generations before I buy again as I should have.
    Then you mentioned overclocking and I can answer that flat out by saying because it happens that I have the ultimate overclocking motherboard for any 5000 series processor it's a MSI MEG B550 UNIFY X. Now I was afraid to overclock and I hate taking chances but what the h**l since I never tried and I had this Motherboard since 2022 I did. What I found was a motherboard (set in the BOIS correctly (thank you Jays2Cents) could easily clock to 4700MGhz with either a Noctua D15 or any 240mm AIO. adding a 280 or 360mm AIO brought the processors to 5300MGhz using AMD 5900X. MSI MEG B550 UNIFY X made it easy. AS for any other motherboard it just was to complicated. I'm going to use a Ryzen 5700X next
    Sadly, MSI X570 MEG or X670 MSI motherboards are not the same. but then again they have EXPO

    Not a request but a thought. One game gaining traction "as it gains credibility & stability ironing out the Star Engine which when refined could be a game engine for creating other games on a scale as massive and seamless as it's own" with a player set who invests perhaps the most funds per player of any out there is Star Citizen. Somewhere around 750million invested thus far. I will note that $45 can get a player started and buy everything in the game but while they use fomo to buy in game ships and items it is not a requirement but some spend 5-50k on items they could earn in game.
    Currently the guy doing the most "testing" will do cpu and gpu tests, mixing 1080 and 1440 results to show cherry picked comparisons with no tags or clarification when displaying results. It is quite infuriating to notice these things for myself and especially those lacking the knowledge to see this when they purchase items but don't see results to match what they were shown. Worth looking into since it is something I wouldn't exactly say it is niche, but results vary from patch to patch and for view counts it could be a great way to gain traction especially as they make the move from a dx11 base to vulcan.

    Hi
    I cant decide which way to go to upgrade my pc. At the moment I have i7-8700 CPU, 32GB DDR4 CL15 RAM and RX6800XT GPU. I play mostly competitive games in 1440p.
    My first option is to buy Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU and Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite V2 motherboard. All others things Ill use from my current pc. This all costs 387 dollars in my country.
    The second option is to go with AM5 and buy Ryzen 5 7600, ASRock B650 Pro RS and 32GB of DDR5 memory. All this will cost 626 dollars.
    In total, for am5 I need to overpay about 40% and FPS at least with Ryzen 5 7600 is almost same. But in the future, in 3-4 years, I will be able to upgrade the processor to something else and bla bla bla.
    Most people recommend me to go with AM5, but Im not sure that its a correct way according to my needs (competitive games).
    Thank you in advance for response!

      There is no right or wrong answer because it really does depend. However, if I was in your shoes I would go with a 5700X3D or 5800X3D ... you won't have an upgrade path in the future but by the time you need to upgrade this rig new motherboards will be available and the sweet spot for DDR5 RAM will likely increase, so you might as well just go all-in at that point. You could also invest your savings in a higher-end GPU as well ... that would likely deliver the biggest bang for your buck, but I would wait to see what is coming from Intel with Battlemage and Nvidia/AMD. Hope that helps.

      Through the tests the differences seemed to be very similar aside from a few spots that in 1080 the AM5 / 7800x3d picked up a larger gap in the highs but the lows seem fairly consistent. If you check the Mw3 results, these are both very fast cpus and going to competition settings on lesser games you would have either of them fps capped. If you have an am4 board already, the 5800x3d would get you by and maybe skip a generation. I start -30 and end up at -1 and -3 on one core which not worth time put to test, I see utuber do -30 but this for sure not stable unless AMD give reviewer extreme bin chips. i set PBO TJMax 85*c and my 7950x hit 5.2ghz all core with 5.4ghz single core I get 38k Cinebench score, I test this for many many hours and find not worth rouble to do. I do these test on many different bios revision, when new release drop I test again but I give up because as I say not worth time.

      I got you … yes, if you have a 5800x3d then I would wait however if you are buying new I would get a 7800x3d … I think buying new is an easier choice especially given that ddr5 prices are much lower now and there is a wide selection if AM5 motherboards.
