The weird thing about being "laway conscious" in the Philippines, is it completely disappears when it comes to the drinking culture. EVERYONE drinks from ONE glass (tagay) that is passed around. And it's a very very ancient tradition (early Spanish explorers even described it). I still remember it feeling really weird the first time I drank at an upscale bar and we all had separate bottles. I remember thinking "so how are we supposed to know whose turn it is to drink?" 😅 P.S. It's also the reason why there's no equivalent for "Cheers" in Filipino languages. Because we can't clink glasses/bottles if there's only one glass. So when forced to translate "Cheers", we just usually say "Tagay!" (even though it doesn't make sense). A lot of people also say "Kampay", thinking it's a native word (it's not, it's from Japanese "Kanpai").
@@_lim1542 Yes, the ultimate origin is Chinese, but we specifically acquired it from the Japanese. The Chinese version is "Gānbēi", which makes it obvious we didn't acquire it from them, but secondhand via Japanese. Korean also acquired their own version from Chinese: "Geonbae".
YES! I'm Fil-Am so idk if younger Filipinos practice "tagay" or not. In the States, I don't think young Filipinos know of the tradition/ culture behind "tagay".
You can see how Jessica is passionate and hard-working. She want to have a great content to share with us. I have to try Korean when I go back to Manila. There are only few here in Italy

Journey to the west is very famous in South Korea, so that restaurant just used that name coz he's a pig and they sell pork. Sounds savage but hey, you do anything to advertise your stuff.
i don't understand who made up the idea that pinoys use serving spoon coz we're saving the food for later. I heard it from one korean vlogger as well. it's more of a hygiene thing lol and its not just filipinos who use serving spoons.
I'd actually recommend the place at 5:42 , which is Erras Vest Ramen! Not Korean food, I know, but they serve really good ramen in very affordable prices. There are also other food choices and you can drink, too! Inuman sa tabi ng kalsada (na may ramen) experience hahaha
without finishing the video it's already obvious which is the paborito just by seeing the happiness on Jessica's face, btw she can be a good tagay gunner lol. Hopefully you'll find time teaching us how to cook korean dishes from buying ingredients to the finish product.
Just discovered you while watching people trying filipino foods. Love your style, vibe, and energy. It's great that you are bringing filipino culture to the world. FilAm from Dallas, Texas. Keep it up, miss!
This is probably my favorite episode. I love the fact that Jessica's team allowed her to recommend this one time - we actually see more slices of Jessica's life as Zhu Ba Jie is her favorite K resto. Really loved the makgeolli part. I learned a lot more about the Korean culture and norms and the best part is I enjoyed the duration of the whole episode. Jessica - the best K ambassador 🥰😍

I do not understand why, supposedly Filipinos dislike spicy food because I am Visayan American, and I eat Bicol express with bids eye chili and jalapeños at the same time with the seeds and even in Hiligaynon style Dinuguan plus I eat Samyang 2x spicy!
When I went home in the Philippines, I saw so many Koreans . I thought maybe Koreans are investing in the Philippines but I was amazed so many Koreans restaurant for Koreans even in the tourist area,. So many Koreans tourist eating at Koreans restaurant, what I am saying is , I thought this tourist help the Philippine restaurant but is not, the Koreans are helping themselves.
Flatter chopsticks is easier to use. I don’t know about being better for precision using that because it’s easier. Try using round steel chopsticks, I bet you’ll easily find out that it’s the one that truly needs better precision. For me, anything square-ish or flat chopsticks are for children because it’s the easiest to use and learn from. I’ve noticed Koreans and Japanese are similar holding their chopsticks. Like children lol. I hold mine Chinese style and Japanese think it’s harder for them to do it that way. I live in Japan so I don’t know why Koreans hold their chopsticks same as Japanese because I can’t ask them in person lol.
Hi Jessica, !!! i would Highly Recommend you should try the JINJOO KOREAN GRILL Restaurant at the SM Aura taguig, thats a very cozy and Korean style restaurant very different style from the other restaurant please try that i promise you wont regret it, GODBLESS TAKE CATE JESS LOVELOTS 😊

Well that's cool to see the new Adriatico street, way back decades ago it has only 1 Korean restaurant and 1 Korean grocery. I used to live at 1750 josefa building but now it's a backpackers apartment for traveller's.
Ay ako, Jessica, If I see you, I’d accommodate you hehe. I wish we had the Malate restos here in Batangas. Missing going to Korea and eating authentic food!

Came here to say how much I love your content! Also, being ‘laway conscious’ is better for stomach health. A bacteria called ‘h-pylori’ can be easily spread through sharing food and saliva. It can be painful for some and not for others. It is a really serious condition and needs to be treated to kill the bacteria. I learned this the hard way after having an endoscopy when I moved to Taiwan. Just something I thought I’d share as a fellow foodie. Love the content
I'm learning so much from Jessica's channel about the food scene in the Philippines. Great content as usual! 👍 Why are you becoming even more cute Jessica !?!😊
its too bad it seems you missed korean village restaurant in julio nakpil. youre probably a month late, they closed down recently. in my opinion theyre the best korean food there. that restaurant was like 30 years old. korean restaurants werent even a thing yet and they already existed in the philippines and yes, the owner was a korean.
serving spoon is not just a laway conscious purposes only it also makes food life much longer.
