How to Fix Stick Drift on a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 янв 2025
- Hi, this video shows you a simple way that can temporarily fix stick drift on a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con. It will only work if the Joy Con is dirty or has had liquid (fizzy drinks) split onto it. It will not help it if there is a broken part inside the analogue stick. It will probably need doing again if/when the problem reoccurs but if you haven't got the skills needed to replace the analogue sticks or the money to buy new Joy-Con then it may help you. It only takes a couple of minutes to do so it is worth a try. If you still have your warranty on your Nintendo Switch then you should contact Nintendo before attempting any repair as it may be replaced/fixed for free.
Stick drift is when the stick moves without any input from the user so you may find your character walking on screen without you moving anything. In this video the problem is delayed inputs which can be seen at the beginning with the analogue stick slow to reset to the central position.
Many thanks, Vince.
$70 controller vs some dust.
Who will win?!?!
Dust because Nintendo doesn’t know how to make joysticks last for more than a year.
“DUST USED STICK TO THE JOYSTICK”
IT WAS VERY EFFECTIVE
Dust
Technically 2 controls but yeah dust wins
dust win on mine the joycon is busted ill need to buy a new one
I’ve officially named this problem
“Tokyo Drift”
Mr Danny Lane you have possibly turned something annoying into an amusing meme
*Kyoto
Stikyo Drift
They are made in japan. So this does make some sense, but nintendo was founded in kyoto japan 1889. So id call it "kyoto drift".
thenewbgamer64 pro. idiot65 defeats the purpose of the joke
How did Nintendo allow something like this pass? Cant get a goddamn joystick right. Both of mine do this and they've been treated perfectly since the day of purchase. Less than a year later, they're useless.
I have never seen a game company get a joystick perfectly. The Xbox One controller’s joystick tends to drift pretty often and, at least for me, the PS4 controller’s joysticks we’re placed in awkward positions. Nintendo’s joysticks were done just as well, if not better than other companies
@@dojoguy3387 every other Nintendo controller maybe. I have my second pair of joy cons and the drifting is back, after like 7 months. Meanwhile even my Ps2 controllers work perfectly, same for every GC,PS3,PS4 and 360 controller i own.
My wii u works better then my joy cons
All of my wii nunchucks work great after years of use. My wired (30$) PDP pro controller works great after a year of more frequent use than Joy cons. Almost every controller I have from before this console gen works very well even today. It's infuriating, the lack of controller quality this generation in the official controllers.

Omg...
By the power of My Mate Vince, rubbing alcohol worked.... all I did was lift up the rubber part with a tooth pick and gently swab it with a Q-tip ear cleaner and some rubbing alcohol. I then calibrated the controller with the system settings and the controller no longer drifts. I can play Smash Bros ultimate again!! Thank you Vince you are a hero!!!
Yes but it’s only a temporary fix. It still works but not 100% after a week I had to re apply but I bought new yellow joy cons

And plus it damages the joycon cause its delicate
There's something wrong with mine, my left joy con keeps going up and stays up, then hesitates to go up when going down. I hope this fixes it, thanks a lot Vince
Same bro
how did it go
I have the exact same issue and its so annoying! Can you reply saying if it worked or not
Mine too i can’t even play bendy properly
Did it work?
Dude, thank you for this. I didn’t have any fancy electronics cleaner, but I used some tweezers to lift that flap and gave it a few good ol’ fashioned, hearty blows into the control stick. Must have blown free whatever had been stuck in there, and relieved me of a problem that had been driving me nuts for the last 3 months. My stick was much worse than yours though. The thing had a mind of its own. Thanks again!!

I had problems with my left controller kept moving left whilst playing games. Which was a nightmare. I've done what you shown in the video and used the spray and now the controller is working fine. Thank you for sharing this.
Is it still working fine? I just got a new Switch and want to know how long a solution like in this video lasts.
Didn't even know the calibrate Controller was an option, fixed my drift by re-calibrating and it works flawlessly now. If it ever comes to dust though I'll be sure to come back and watch this again though. You sir are a hero. Thank you for this tutorial!

Just tried it. I was a bit sceptical but wasn't prepared to fork out for another controller, just yet. Its actually worked! My son can finally stop losing his hours spent creating is Minecraft town! A very happy boy and parent 😊. Thanks for sharing
Does the joy con you sprayed in a past video still works fine?
I had the issue where the left joycon stick wouldn't fully navigate downwards anymore. Within the calibration menu, the indicator would move down perhaps 50% instead of all the way. Often noticed characters walking forward too and was close to purchasing a new left joycon for alot of money till I found this video and lifted the little rubber cap underneath the stick and sprayed some dust dissolving spray into the mechanism. It worked surprisingly well! Went back to the calibration menu about 10 seconds after spraying and it works as if it were just out of the box! Thank you so much for this video!
This definitely worked for me, Thanks again for this video! I honestly had no idea about that little flap on the analog! Hahaha! Now my left JoyCon works exactly as it should and I'm no longer accidently walking off cliffs in Breath Of The Wild!

I used this trick with regular WD-40, and it worked like a charm! I may want to look into getting the contact cleaner variant when my paycheck comes in on Friday to be safer, but for now everything looks fine. Thanks for showing this so I didn’t have to miss any gaming while I waited for Nintendo to fix my controller!
Holy shit yes thank you thank you thanks finally I needed this for so long thanks 🙏 Thank you! Now can you fix loose joycons (falling out of switch)
Edit: thank you so much Vince I’m gonna do this right now
Any idea where I can buy the pressurized water thing?
In one of his videos he said he brought it in maplin

its so simple to just replace the latches.
He already did mire that one video on loose joycons
Do it works with WD40?
@@vitellas9318 I used WD40 electrical contact cleaner and it works
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH NONE OF THE COMMENTS DONT TELL YOU HOW MUCH THIS ACTUALLY HELPED.
If you need help i recommend getting a cotten pad and ripping a tiny bit of wool from it and stirring it inside of the mechanism with a tooth pick (NOTE MAKE SURE THE SMALL PIECE IF COTTON ISNT FURRY THAT CAN END UP MAKING THE STICK DRIFT WORSE). Be cautious to roll the cotten up into a ball and slowly put it in the white part. Carefully stir it around and it can pick up the deepest dust. The next best thing you can do is open it with a toothpick and BLOW AS HARD YOU POSSIBLY CAN
Worked a treat! Little bit fiddly but got there in the end. Thanks very much!
Its better to have a little bit fiddly stick than drifting, you will get used to that i have the same
For the love of God don't use dettol or nail polish remover, had to swap my sticks out after that mess. Also the alcohol tends to eat up the plastic inside, so don't use any liquid cleaner too much, only use it if compressed air doesn't work.
Alcohol doesn't eat up anything. Obviously you shouldn't use acetone.
Try to use contact cleaner it won't harm your plastic
Compressed air has always worked for me, but after a week or two, the drift would came back. Kind of annoying but I find that replacing the stick is the best option now.
i injected isopropyl alcohol. Worked great!
"nail polish remover" looooool !!! You didn't learned that in school? Or with Walter White?
Omg finally! It’s taken you this long to make a video addressing this problem! I’ve had this problem with both of my joycons since February 2018 and it is a horrible and annoying problem!
marty’s spicy memes he had already done one ;)
Used my switch for 4 months and the joystick drifts to the left. Damn hard to play as it's like I'm drunk.
Not impressed with the quality of these OEM controllers
I only came back to say thank you for sharing this simple trick. As annoying the drift is with these joycons, you wouldn't think that 2 puffs of this £10 spray could sort it out so easily and quickly. Way better than paying Nintendo UK £29 for 'repairing' the controllers :) Thanks again!
Nintendo with any other controller's control sticks: 👌👌👌
Nintendo with joycon control sticks: "LET'S DESIGN THEM TO BREAK OVER TIME! 👌😂👌"
1 week after getting a new pair my right joycon went bad.
Just clean it like in the video. I did it with all my previous joy cons that I thought broke they all work again... I’m so mad cuz I have 6 joy cons. Now when my original ones just had dust lol

Stabbybaby mine was really bad like that and i cleaned it with compressed air and a q-tip and it’s much better, but still drifts.. just not as bad. let me know if you find something that works for you!

THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!!
All 3 sets of my joycons had drift on the left controller. This fixed all 3 pairs. THANK YOU so much!!!
Good tip! I may try compressed air first though. Ever since I started playing Smash Ultimate, My left Joy-con will sometimes have no full input when I try and move a character to the right side of the screen.
Thanks. You could try recalibrating it in the system settings first. That worked on one of my replacement analogue sticks which didn't have full movement:-)
@@Mymatevince No probs. I actually tried recalibrating it but still get the same problem. Hopefully I won't have to resort to disassembling my joy-con because I really don't want to, and with my luck on technology I'd probably break it lol.😅
I have the same issue but it's in all directions. Character's don't dash and at the same time doing a smash attack does a tilt instead.

I bought some WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner and it worked like a dream. Thanks for the video
Thanks for making this video. Helped me out a lot.
I have a question, should I get electrical cleaner or compressed air? I have 3 Pro controllers with drift and one of them being from the Wii U.
So helpful. This kind of stuff is what I subbed for
This video helped a lot. I actually sprayed w-40 under those washers and then used a q tip while using a small key to keep the washer accessible to the q tip
Which version did you use? The standard one or the specialist one?
Green Roze standard. I played a few hours yesterday, no more drifting. It’s a miracle. I was afraid I’d have to send them out like my friend was insisting and that there was no other option.
Cocomunga Productions dang, good for you, I used the standard one and it didn’t work for me :( I might’ve done something wrong though I did try and follow what he did, but I’m going to try it with a contact cleaner next time. Did you follow exactly what he did or change something?
Green Roze I used a q-tip, and also cleaned every inch of both joycons. Those little ridges on the top of the analog stick had dirt in them as well.
@@cocomunga alright, thank you! Might give it another try
thank. you!!
I noticed the drift in my left joy con when playing animal crossing when my avatar would move upwards on her own. Thankfully I had a can of pressurized air and a small, thin enough object to lift the gummy cap. While I had the items out I clean out the right joy con to case it would cause a drift in the cameras and I did some re-calibration.
this was all done 8 min ago. No drifting!!!
Did you use the straw he was using
@@Axelerate-ng9zk a shorter version of it.
Why? Is it bad for the joycon??
quite literally like 2 years ago we needed to buy new joycons because we ddnt know about this solution so this really saved me another pair of joycons for around 70 or 80 bucks :D
Wouldnt this oxidize the metal inside?? Im kind o scared to try this.
