I think the reason the music is so good isn't because of the skills of the singer, it's because the song is just fun. It's like 90s Disney animated films. The characters didn't have to be great singers, they just had to have fun singing.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can easily see this optimistic eccentric Willy becoming the bitter eccentric in the 2006 movie that we see. Life is tough and wears you down. Even more reasons why he connected so good with Charlie who reminded him of himself at that age.
Also, its easy to imagine that after Willy´s mum passed away he had to move to his strict dentist father.

Can I ask - The movie has an 82 critic rating and 91 audience rating on RT and over 7 on imdb, and I've only heard great things about it. But both the video and you hear seem to be referring to a backlash. Where did this backlash happen, since I've only experience relatively universal acclaim of this movie (though I am in the UK).

I think the backlash was mostly before the premiere. A lot of people were either not interested in another Willy Wonka movie or didn't like the trailer or didn't like the idea of Chalamet playing Wonka, etc. I feel like many of those people were actually pleasantly surprised by the final product.

I am unable to watch anything without adding my own character/ storyline.
For Wonka, It starts in the flashback scene with Wonka and his mother. I replaced the line " When you do share chocolate with the world I'll be right there beside you," to "We'll be right there beside you," as she clinches her stomach. We then hear Willie talk about his mother's passing and how she took his little sister with her before he got to meet her.
Throughout the movie, a little girl shows up next to him in all of Willy's day dreams and dance numbers.
In the ending scene, when Willie is sitting on the steps of the cathedral, the little girl shows up and asks to sit next to him. Suddenly she sees her mother and shouts, "Mama!" And runs into her mother's. When Willie looks up, he sees that the girl runs to HIS mother. They smile and wave at him as he can do nothing but smile and wave back with tears in his eyes. As he blinks the tears out of his eyes, his mother and sister disappear.
In the scene where Noodle reunites with her mother and Wonka sings pure imagination, it mirrors the scene with his mother and sister just a moment before

Willy Wonka has always been a musical. Even the depp movie. While this one was more like a modern Broadway musical, the original was a classic musical, they all have the same ammount of songs. Which is 11. I never understood the backlash. Nothings changed. People forget about songs like "The candy man" and "Cheer up Charlie" those are musical numbers. Depps was just crazy, but still had a musical tone.

I was skeptical because i grew up on the OG, (I'm 24) and while i love the Johnny Depp version, the OG will always have a special place in my heart. I thought this was a beautifully done prequel that captured the joy and fun of Wonka. Also, its so funny that people were upset that this was a musical when BOTH the OG and 05 movies are also musicals, its just the Oompa Loompas singing the entire time, not multiple characters.

I'm sorry. Rowan Atkinson is "that guy from Love Actually"? 😅
    'Mr Bean'!
    'Johnny English'!
    'Blackadder'!
Maybe these are too culturally British.
'The Lion King' or 'The Scooby Doo Movie' would be more internationally known films for our generation, I suppose. Also, 'The Witches'. I recommend that.
As for the rest of the cast, they're almost all people you would recognise if you lived in the UK, but might be obscure otherwise.
I feel like Leprechaun traps must be an American thing(?). I've never heard of that.
I haven't seen 'Annie' but I felt like this film was very classic musical in its style of songs, very 'Paddington' in its style of humour, and a combination in its happy-go-lucky whimsy. Loved it.
I was also not expecting a musical (though I always avoid trailers so I didn't know what to expect), but I'm not sure why that would bother so many people. It was delightful.

When Wonka dropped that last silver dollar, it’ll one day be picked up by Charlie in the original movie.

Can you react to "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron"? It's a story about a strong, beautiful horse with a spirit that can never be broken. I cry every time i watch it! It's a INCREDIBLE film, and the songs are so cool! But it's not a musical and the animals can't talk. 😭💔🔥

I've been on the fence about checking this out. The clips of Hugh Grant as Oompa Loompa were a tremendous turn-off. Maybe when in the right mood sometime . . .
Kindergarten art teacher is the perfect descriptor for that outfit! And I love it! Fun video, Jess!
