“So what if we didn’t get a chance? We will try our best to give our daughters and sisters a chance in the future.” I love this statement. Acknowledging their own lost dreams but focusing on hope for future generations. That is strength. 💪🏻 💖
Really? Then please, explain to me - how exactly are those daughters and sisters gonna realize their dreams if society doesn't change and does not give a chance to them anyway?
Baby steps. Their way of thinking implies they will support and protect their daughters and sisters. Give them the confidence and experience to do things differently.
@@Genesivare Society changes with a single person at a time. The people are the society. For all we know, their daughters could be the very first step the community needs. Not today, not tomorrow, but all of the daughters of the future get a better chance at a dream. Gotta start somewhere.
Literally the only person in this entire movie who doesn't look down on Mulan because of her gender is the villain (and the Emperor too, I guess). When he sees Mulan he's just: "The soldier from the mountains!" and immediately treats her as a threat to be dealt with.
The real irony with Mulan, this cartoon, is she is fighting the only person who actually respects her 100% without questioning her sex as a soldier and not just a woman. Its kind of funny, actually. Edit: i just want to say, thanks guys for explaining what Im saying in more detail lol. But that is basically what Im saying, that the people she fought against held women in much higher standards including in warfar than the country she was fighting for, which didnt value women much at all in that regard.
it's not that ironic. or maybe it is. I'm chinese but reading the history the 'native' chinese were honestly worse in terms of sexism while the invaders were less so. Its the same with europe when vikings invade. A lot of women went to the vikings because they were 'less' sexist.
I loved their reaction, I'm so glad you finally got some women to watch it. Mulan makes you really feel like you can power through anything with the right motivator.
When I joined the military I was a pretty fit young guy. There was this fat nerdy dude in boot camp with me who was definitely not in the best shape. We had a 2 mile self paced run and you had to make a certain time in order to graduate. While I was chilling and running at maybe an 8 minute mile pace, I faintly hear, "Time is racing toward us, until the huns arrive" as the somewhat skinnier but still fat guy catches up to and passes me singing Make a Man Out of You. He finished just before me too. What a champ
Fun Fact: If Mushu hadn't accidentally set off the firework in the snowy pass, Mulan and the army would have been trapped between the bowmen on the cliff and the Hun army at the top of the pass. The firework forced the bowmen to attack early, which allowed the army to avoid being ambushed.
And probably saved Shang's life, the bowman was aiming at the commanding officer and send the troops into chaos. but still with only a few seconds to get a shot off the archer managed to get Shang in the shoulder, missing his head my inches.
@@davestang5454 I don't agree that it was all by accident. She does what she has to do to protect her family and her country. She didn't take her father's place by accident, she didn't start the avalanche by accident or go back to the parade to warn the other guys. Everything she does is on purpose and she sometimes gets lucky.
One thing I noticed on rewatching (mostly reactions) as an adult is how much of a Villain the ancestors are. They don’t actually care about Mulan or how she put her life in danger to help her father (literally one of the most ‘honourable’ things you could do) just about how much she will dishonour she will bring. They don’t even want to send a spirit to help her just to bring her back luckily mushu fails waking up the stone dragon. Then once she saves China they all celebrate like they actually helped and act as if they were supporting her from the beginning they, don’t even acknowledge they were wrong.
Like most of old grown ups? stand up comedians make fun of that all the time. "OH something I've never heard? My father saying I'm proud of me" to a fully booked venue.
And the actual villain Shaun yu has more respect for Mulan than anyone else around her. He respects her as a soldier and warrior. When he sees her again, he doesn't say "you're a woman". Or "the woman from the mountain"no he says "The Soldier from the Mountain!". And his rage is not that she's a woman, his rage is from her tactical skill on the battle field that wiped out his army. He doesn't make any comment about her womanhood he just starts fighting because he sees a competent fighter who he has to fight.

I dont know why but I was bawling at the aunties watching Mulan. It's so important for women and young girls from underprivileged areas to see and hear of strong inspiring female characters so I'm so glad they saw this and can go back and tell others to watch it too! There should be a whole empowering women and girls series through cinema for sure!
This movie is based on an old Chinese legend of a common village girl who undergoes a rigorous training program and becomes a great warrior. It's more than about a powerful woman. Notice how the story ends. Mulan does not become a warrior for her own glory. She values family and honor more than anything else.
The moral of the the original ballad: ”When a pair of rabbits run side by side, who can distinguish male from female?”. As you say, it is not a story about a powerful woman, but about ordinary people working together. I wouldn’t be so quick to say that what defines Mulan is her adherence to honor, since her ingenuity as shown in the Disney film stems from pragmatism. ”Honoring” her father would have meant obeying his wishes and to not risk him embarrassment, but Mulan prioritizes her father’s life over what would be perceived as ”honorable”. This is a pattern throughout the film.
I'm glad these two ladies enjoyed 'Mulan' so much. I would appreciate it if you would give us the names of the people reacting to things. We're familiar with Babu, Raeen, Sarru, Ruby, and others from seeing them so often. Please introduce us to the newcomers. too.
This video really made me emotional. I definitely connected to the character of Mulan a lot as a child. As an adult, hearing “daughters can do anything” from these lovely ladies is very encouraging. I wish you all the best. ❤
I loved this reaction! Mulan is such a wonderful film. It shows that even when girls aren’t as physically strong as boys, they can use their wits, intellect, and courage to win the battles that others can’t. So beautiful.
I love watching the women react. I know that they face a lot of misogyny so seeing empowering women in media is important. My favorite Disney protagonist is Mulan! She has multiple bodies and was a true tactician and even Shan Yu knew that she was the primary threat who destroyed his army. He never even questioned it. She got revenge for the little girl and the village, a true warrior! She is based on real warrior women from long ago.
