Wow my ancestor John MacQueen used to live in the ruins around there back in the 1600s! Looks like a fun place to fish I've always wanted to try fly fishing!

Might be an idea to loosen the drag Chris… and don’t hand line until you know it’s a trout… hard lines!

Noted that you are still not carrying a net. Fishers hope to catch a fish so do not bother carrying a net but anglers expect to catch a fish so do carry a net.
In the fast water that you hooked a heavier fish you would have struggled to land a fish in that fast water without a net.
I suggest that you try to get level.or below a fish once you have hooked it. If you played it from upstream you are fighting the fish and the current and pulling the hook out if the fishes mouth. By playing the fish from below it the fish is fighting you and the current and you are pulling the hook into the fishes mouth.
    Hope that helps.

I had a net between the two of us for the day which I would have happily netted a fish for Chris. I have the savage gear folding one which I have on a net magnet on my back very light to fish with all day.

Yes Ian, Theo had a great time, it was a hell of walk to the start of the beat and an even longer one back from the end of the beat. We both needed the weekend off to recover 😁😁👍

Great video, the drone footage is very good gives a good idea what that beat looks like. Think you almost certainly had a fish on unlucky Chris !

Great film Chris. Bugger so close looked like you had hold of two then not easy if they aren't properly hooked in the rapids. Almost got you a salmon next time.

Looks like you had a hold of a grilse there Chris. Unlucky. Nether the less it’s a great feeling when you get a take.

Great video as always. Love the scenery, it seemed like you were really out in the wilderness! The head shakes of the lost fish definitely looked like a Salmon to me, although we can say trout if it makes the pain better!

@@CornishChrisTheFish you never can tell recently I was involved with helping my friend in the epic. 3 hour long fight of a 40lb salmon,. It. Did absolutely nothing for the first 20 mins and I thought it was 20lb then it headed back to to sea and bullied him for nearly 3 hours if got 100 metres back it took 150 it was in complete control the whole fight eventually darkness fell. And. It. Made. A. 300 metres run the fish wasn't lost out of use error it beat us fair and square, when the unthinkable happened and the line went slack my friend had. To. Reel in 300 metres of backing plus shooting line and fly line to find the knot had held but it had broken 2 points of the hook. So a rather radical example never to. Underestimate what's on the end of your line when salmon. Fishing! When I. Saw the fish it. Was. Hooked. Right in the scissors

@@CornishChrisTheFish 40 years salmon fishing and I'll never forget it, I presumed it was foul hooked as the runs were so powerful, but the fly was in the scissors, It was just a force of nature , can you imagine what the 60, 70 and even 80 salmon fought like on victorian tackle but they landed there fair share so they clearly knew what they were doing

Ff you want to stop catching trout, set out to catch them and you're almost guaranteed not to see one all day.
