    The Sea Trout was a better fish than any of the daft big herring most people are chasing in our east coast rivers. They have been making a great comeback in recent years along the entire length of the coast and it is great to see. Had fish to 7lb 6oz in the salt in recent years (they go even harder in the sea) and seen a few much bigger. Friend of a friend had a 17lber on the fly in a small local river a few years ago, biggest Scottish east coast fish i know of.

    I kinda of wonder, the two definite spots on the gill plate, has me considering if it might be a hybrid, with lowering numbers of salmon , i wonder if either precocious parr / or brown trout on the redds are doing their bit and salmon/trout hybrids might just be natures backup for seagoing stock, or its parents were a large female sea trout been watched over on the redds by smaller male salmon (or vice versa) , , maybe just the autumn colours confusing things a bit, but square tail and the two stand out gill plate spots seems to show the distinguish marks of the two in one fish . Cracking fish either way. Tight Lines for 2024 if your still throwing a line.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. For me, the square tail, the extended jaw and the spots below the lateral line point towards trout. I do agree the lack of fish in the rivers opens up the opportunity of hybrids. Nature will find a way.

    Excellent action video and some great angling skills, please correct me also, but isnt one of the differences that a Sea Trout has spots below the lateral line, when a Salmon doesn't, and historically a Sea Trout is a Brown trout, that went to sea ?

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching and the kind comments, yes you are correct a sea trout has spot below the line when a salmon doesn't. It does become more difficult when bother are dark and in their spawning colours, for me the tail is always a giveaway, straight edged is always a trout. 👍

    You make that single spey look way too easy....took me so long to learn that cast and I still suck at it 50% of the time.

      Over my right arm is still far better for me. Its just practice and thankfully I get plenty of it. Keep at it and it'll happen 90% of the time 👍

      @@scottishoutdoorlife wait was that your non dominant? Dang bro, my non dominant casts are just a joke whether air or water borne. Yeah can't wait till I get my 3wt trout spey fixed up which is what I normally have a scandi line on (I broke the dang thing at the cork when I slipped in the river a few months back). Right now just chucking big stuff on the 4wt with a skagit.
