i remember my parents having that conversation before my mom passed. she had cancer and knew she didn' thave long and told my dad he had the right to see somebody else after she was gone, but he never did. he could never bear to be with anyone else

I've heard this song 1 time.
" you're where my arms can't reach you." Only death would be a complete CANT. That's my take.
