      Thanks so much! :-) I really love this guitar, and for the prize it’s hard to be. I would suggest trying a few different models and going with the one that sounds best, and feels best in your hands. The quality can vary a lot with resonators at this price point. It took me quite a while to find this one, but when I did I made sure to grab it!

      @@LucasHanemanYes, that's the thing about instruments- they have to feel good in the players hands. I'm kind of an instrument geek and spend hours watching demo videos though my own lense. My issue is that some people suck at demos, but I can tell. It's kind of my superpower. You enjoy this instrument and took the time to share it, I could tell.👍🤟

      Thanks so much David! I would try a few of these if you can before purchasing. Being acoustic instruments they are all different. I tried a couple in different shops before stumbling upon this one at a local consignment Store. I couldn’t believe how spectacular it sounded when I first tried it, and it’s only gotten better from there. Thanks so much for tuning into the channel and hope you stick around to check out more videos. I am uploading a lot these days!

    But wouldn't a P90 style pickup installed near the neck miss the reso tone?

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  3 года назад +2

      Yes it would, but it’s pretty common to use a floating pickup on a guitar like this in the blues scene, so you can run it through an electric guitar amp and use some overdrive etc. It’s definitely a trade off for sure. It all depends on the style of music someone wants to play with it. It’s a really tough instrument to amplify anyway that sounds accurate to the acoustic sound. Good observation and I appreciate the comment. Thanks for checking out the video!

    @eddiehennig7835 3 года назад +1

    Man you're a great picker! I have the same guitar but the resonator is super quiet - it sounds almost like a plain acoustic. Did you do anything to yours to make it sound so loud?

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  3 года назад

      Thanks so much for your kind comment! Sorry to hear about your guitar not quite having the same resonator quality as this one. To be honest this one came after quite a bit of searching. I checked at every music store I went to for about three years, and tried every affordable resonator I could find. I was always feeling underwhelmed as I had borrowed a friend of a friends national resonator from the 1930s. Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea, but I was recording a blues album and I needed that sound. Anyhow, eventually I stumbled into this one at a pawnshop. I absolutely loved the sound, and the store owner made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, especially with the fact that it sounded so good. Like anything else I think every guitar is a sum of its parts. I have tried so many “Identical “ guitars, and have always found that every single instrument is completely different from every other one. Especially in this price range there are good and not so good examples, but I would say that holds true for almost any price range. Look around. I’m sure you’ll be able to Do a trade for another guitar you will be much more happy with in the long run. Thanks again for checking out the video and hope you’ll stick around to the channel for some more content. I’m getting close to 100 episodes of this particular series at this point. Happy holidays!

      @@LucasHaneman I play Ukulele. I sort of fell in love with resonator guitars very recently and I decided to buy one so I can learn. I read a lot about it, heard a lot of different guitars. But those two I can't decide. There is no comparison video (same mic, same song, same guitarist, same chord).
      A lot of article praise the G9220 (often in top 10 budget resonator guitars) and I don't understand why the G9241 has not as much coverage. Ho god I can't decide lol
      Please tell me what are the main differences between the two of them?

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  4 года назад +1

      @underakillingmoon Hello again. After a little bit of research I realized that the only main difference between the two models, as far as I can see, is that the 9241 has a biscuit cone, and my 9220 has a spider cone. Historically speaking biscuit cones are used more for blues playing as they have a bit of a Brasher attack, and are very loud, while spider cones have a slightly softer character, more suited towards fingerpicking and blue grass. I’m definitely more of a blues player, and as you can hear the spider cone 9220 holds up just fine. If it’s any consolation, I tried a ton of resonators for a few years, and was always left feeling that they sounded thin, or that they were out of my price range as someone who wanted to have a resonator for when I desired that sound for a recording or live use, but certainly would not have it as my main axe. Really they are just two slightly different flavors, and you can’t go wrong with either. My suggestion is to go into a music store if you are able to, and try both side by side. If you do this, you will know right away which one is right for you. A big objective of this channel is to tell people to use their ears and hearts when purchasing new instruments, and not be so hung up on the brand name, or what you might think an instrument offers on paper. Having no experience with the 9241 in my hands, I can’t really speak to its character other than what I assume it is like. I can tell you though that the 9220 is the closest thing to a vintage 1930s National guitar that I have ever tried, and I got mine used for $400. It holds up very well for finger style playing as well as slide playing, and I certainly have not regretted the purchase. I truly hope this helps you out. Maybe also try them back to back with your eyes closed.

    • @underakillingmoon
      @underakillingmoon 4 года назад +1

      @@LucasHaneman This is really interesting. You see I knew the difference between the 9241 and the 9220 (Biscuit vs Spider) but I knew nothing about how they're related to certain style of blues or country. I have a lot to learn about the different style of blues, countries etc.
      Reading you I wonder if the 9241 would suit you better because you said it fits more the blues style which is yours. And this is the famous mystery to me : The fact that the 9241 is in the same price range (even a bit lower) than the 9220, but seems to be rarely used even by blues players like you.
      Unfortunately, I am from a country in Europe and I still did not find a music store which sale both. In fact I called 12 stores and only one had a G9220. The price is 724€ (815$)
      A last question please. If the spider disk suit more a finger-picking style of play, is it correct to assume that guitars with spider cones are more versatile than those with biscuit cones? I ask because I would like to explore as much music style than I can with my guitar.
      And thank you, you helped me a lot by giving me a lot to think about. For me it's a lot of money so I can't afford to make the bad choice.

    • @LucasHaneman
      @LucasHaneman  4 года назад +1

      @@underakillingmoon No problem, and it’s my pleasure to help you out as much as I can. I think you may have hit the nail on the head here. I can only assume that the reason why you are finding more reviews on the 9220 is because it must be a more versatile guitar, that more people have purchased. That particular model has been out for at least six years now, and it’s been very popular for good reason in my opinion. Is that Music Store close enough to you that you would be able to give it a try? I understand the hesitation to purchase an acoustic instrument especially before trying it out. The reason why I got this one is because I found it at a used music store and it really spoke to me. If it’s any consolation I have a friend who owns the alligator resonator, and he told me he really prefers my 9220. I definitely think you will be getting a versatile instrument that would sound great for its price point if you decide to go ahead with this guitar. If you have the funds, and if the shop has a return policy, I definitely recommend giving it a try and really hope you enjoy it!
