Totally mind blowing - He doesn't even struggle with any of them. I vaguely remember watching this as a 10 year old. You Bet! was proper weekend tv, with a great theme tune.
He did so well, and really nice for them to arrange a cab ride too. Heartwarming stuff. I loved this show back in the day. I wish they still made tv like this, rather than the rubbish we have to put up with now.
Yeah well said. As for the show the Masked Singer. I never thought I would see a show as bad as that on a Saturday night. I loved YouBet, Paul Daniel’s Generation Game and Big Break.
Amazing what you can remember at such a young age. I’ve forgotten all the challenges on You Bet, love watching them back. One of my favourite shows as a kid on Saturday nights
Absolutely incredible, you can see him tracing out the lines on the chart as he thinks it through, pity some of the comments associate intelligence with mental health or social ineptitude. He's probably achieved more there than you will in your lifetime! Well done lad!!
That kid knows his stuff. I remember when I got a tour around Upminster Depot when my grandad went in to help his mate with some bits. We took a District Line train on a test run to the end of the depot, and I got to drive it back, I was only 7 lol.
Very surreal to see this again; I was a Yank studying in the UK in '92 and saw this episode then--on a black and white telly (I guess the program hosts weren't willing to foot the color TV tax). Thanks for posting!
Dang....did awesome....I have trouble reading the bloody route maps, let alone remember them all. Loved this show by the way...one of my faves, and the music was kick ass.
This popped up on my recommended vids. I loved this on a Saturday night. TV was so much better back then on BBC and ITV on the Saturday. All day and night with great shows on both sides. You Bet should be remade but i'm guessing it'll be hosted by some nitwit and the "celeb" panel would be reality tv nobodies and influencers. Thank god this show existed back in the days when it did :)
Jay Clarke will be 32-33 by now. I'd love to see him give a talk on this and, I don't know if Matthew Kelly went with him to Upminster depot, but I really like to see that. Did a TV camera crew go with them?
I made my own grand-scale British Rail map when I was six, so I know the territory. I'd have been *seriously* proud to have done something like this at that age - and I also had the privilege to go in a cab, in my case of a Class 50 locomotive. Simon Cowell would probably think it was "sad" - but fuck him and everything he stands for.
TV used to be about giving ordinary people a moment in their lives. Now its about giving Z listers like Gemma Collins and Joey Essex a reason to exist.
I'm trying to find footage of a You Bet challenge from years ago where a Polo Pony raced up and down against a car. Does anyone know where I can find it. I can't seem to locate it anywhere. Thanks
@Squmbumf24 TBH it doesnt really matter if is was able minded or suffering from Aspergers, its a quite incredible feat in itself and deserved all the praise he got at the time. I remember my mum and dad watching this and looking in disbelief everytime he got one right.
Saw a comment earlier in here saying he was a yank studying in the UK in 92 when he saw this episode, if the kid is 8 I'm guessing he was born in 84.si he's probably 40 now.
@idiustidius I have Aspergers just like you, so first of all well done Jay! Great job... I do have 2 questions for you: 1. Did you get to go out on the train like they said you would? 2. If so did Matthew come with you?
i wonder if Mr Kelly really did go on the boys trip with him and did they video it for next week? but anyway - i can actually brag that i had simlar prize to what he got - not once, but twice
Guys, you may like to know that Sharron Davies and Derek Redmond met at the Barcelona 1992 olympics earlier this year and they married 2 years after this until 2000
MrGriser it's one of only two underground lines that go outside the M25 into Essex, the other one being the Metropolitan line going into Buckinghamshire running alongside the Aylesbury line as far as Amersham!
@nriab23 you had colour TVs in 1992 lol but the TV license was cheaper if you had a black an white TV so if the bloke was renting it was cheaper for the land lord i guess...
I just realised: what if most of You Bet! was a fix? Like, the kid had an earpiece and the stations were being read out by someone out the back with the map? 🤣

yeah, Love Island just doesn’t compare 😜
It’s coming back!!! I think it’ll be later on this year!
I couldn’t agree more. You Bet is coming back, but will it be as good as it was?
Amazing what you can remember at such a young age. I’ve forgotten all the challenges on You Bet, love watching them back. One of my favourite shows as a kid on Saturday nights
Same here mate. Just to love Saturday night's in the 90s
This just highlights how much things have changed in today's world and society and not for the better.
The glory years of Saturday night TV.
Fond memories - family game show TV now is utterly crap. Always something with celebrities.
Thank God we have Challenge TV!
gordonjohn ... Exactly!! It's all shit 💩x factor and BGT.
Will never be bettered.
oh yes. YouBet. Generation game. Blind date. Big break. Bullseye (Sunday). Awesome weekend TV once upon a time
Absolutely incredible, you can see him tracing out the lines on the chart as he thinks it through, pity some of the comments associate intelligence with mental health or social ineptitude. He's probably achieved more there than you will in your lifetime! Well done lad!!
The only people who equate intelligence to mental health problems are only jealous because they're stupid themselves... 👍
Bring this show back :)
It’s coming back this Saturday, don’t miss it!
That kid knows his stuff. I remember when I got a tour around Upminster Depot when my grandad went in to help his mate with some bits. We took a District Line train on a test run to the end of the depot, and I got to drive it back, I was only 7 lol.
Matthew Kelly was such a good presenter.
He was. Sadly false allegations in 2003 ruined his TV career, although he continued theatrical acting for a while.
@mclarenguy22 nope still acting
If he did this nowadays he'd win Britains got talent because thats actual talent! God knows how he does it 🙂
The good old days of Saturday night tv in the uk makes me feel really old now being born in the 80s🥺
Very surreal to see this again; I was a Yank studying in the UK in '92 and saw this episode then--on a black and white telly (I guess the program hosts weren't willing to foot the color TV tax). Thanks for posting!
wow I'm a fanatic on London underground tube map and this is jaw dropping
Dang....did awesome....I have trouble reading the bloody route maps, let alone remember them all.
Loved this show by the way...one of my faves, and the music was kick ass.
The music through the challenge is awesome ! - as was the challenge.
What a blast from the past. Nice Hair Mathew Kelly!
Loved Matthew Kelly. Brilliant presenter
That is an absolutely insane thing to be able to do. What a mind!
Incredible, must have an identic memory
That is such an epic prize. Especially for an eight year old.

This is how kids should be today...
Not like the spoilt little shits or chavs we have in modern society.
Very clever boy. Well done. 😮😊😊
Respect to ITV, gave the kid the prize he probably most wanted. Could have showered him with big money prizes but that's not really what he wanted.
At 8 years old, they don't understand money. They understand experiences. But yes, this was the perfect prize for him.
We all know the parents would get their grubby little hands on the cash and he wouldn't see a penny of it. Much better this way round.
This guy is really talented!!
Jay Clarke will be 32-33 by now. I'd love to see him give a talk on this and, I don't know if Matthew Kelly went with him to Upminster depot, but I really like to see that. Did a TV camera crew go with them?
#ITV London Underground Challenge 2

He knows them the way I know clock makers i'd love to attempt something like this over british clock makers
I'm trying to find footage of a You Bet challenge from years ago where a Polo Pony raced up and down against a car. Does anyone know where I can find it. I can't seem to locate it anywhere. Thanks

Exactly. Autism is an ability not disability.
@@vincitveritas3872
Jesus Christ!
You automatically assume the lad has autism?
I think I remember seeing this episode
This wee laddie must be in his twenties now!
He's probably in his 30s even! ☺
I wonder if he's working for the Underground now?
BTW the presenter reminds me of my swimming coach. Same hairstyle and everything
stephthestar90 😂😂😂
Saw a comment earlier in here saying he was a yank studying in the UK in 92 when he saw this episode, if the kid is 8 I'm guessing he was born in 84.si he's probably 40 now.

I’d like to see that too!
Way to go kid. F... the doubters....
I know lots about the underground too!
Tell me this kid grew up to work on TFL
@hyderpotter Yeah what I meant was the fact that the Metropolitan goes further out than the District!
It does, and I’ve done it all!
Gotta love Matthew's shaggy perm!
Miss this show so much. I see ITV are making what looks to be a poor rip of this with that new show "go for it"
i wonder if Mr Kelly really did go on the boys trip with him
and did they video it for next week?
but anyway - i can actually brag that i had simlar prize to what he got - not once, but twice
@hyderpotter He may know about the lines and stations but does he know about the rolling stock used as well!
Friday 11th September 1992
I hope to be in a few years.
When you become a driver, which line will you work on?
Guys, you may like to know that Sharron Davies and Derek Redmond met at the Barcelona 1992 olympics earlier this year and they married 2 years after this until 2000
Which Central line station is nearest to your house?
Has anyone got season 6 episode 6 by any chance and could they please send it to me
What year was this
1992
This was broadcast on 11 September 1992
@hyderpotter Central line covers 51 miles I've heard!
MrGriser it's one of only two underground lines that go outside the M25 into Essex, the other one being the Metropolitan line going into Buckinghamshire running alongside the Aylesbury line as far as Amersham!
Debating between Central and Jubilee to be honest. Central would be the better one as it's my most local line.
What year was this?..'91?
rosslahive it's after 73 because of the jubilee, but before 06 because of the east London line
but before 1994 as the map still had the Holborn/Aldwych branch on it and that's now defunct.
This was from an episode in 1992 (in 1992 it was increased from 3 to 4 celebrities, and the scrolling audience board was scrapped in 1993).
Anyone know where I can find the show with British bulldog on you bet tv show
@@stephthestar90I did Aldwych in 1992 and Ongar four years earlier in 1988 which was the first time I ever went to London on my own at the age of 17.
Wowser Kapowza.
that waterloo one was a stinker
@nriab23 you had colour TVs in 1992 lol but the TV license was cheaper if you had a black an white TV so if the bloke was renting it was cheaper for the land lord i guess...
Does anyone know what this boy grew up to be?
Its simple, twist the handle and push foward, a 4 year old could do it. I was shown what to do, obviously, and did it.
9 jealous people disliked
If you were only 7, how could you know how to drive the train?
Newbury Park.
WOW
wow
This is episode 3, not 2
No this is episode 2 not episode 3 look at the You Bet Wikipedia page
Episode 3 was the darts and archery challenge which Jessica Martin backed and had to do a forfeit because the darts player beat the archer

4th September 1992
Is he 23
Bring it back host Bradley Walsh
Are you a train driver?
i wonder is he sick of the london underground song now?
I'm sure that boy knew which lines were not use after the underground fire
I just realised: what if most of You Bet! was a fix? Like, the kid had an earpiece and the stations were being read out by someone out the back with the map?
🤣
Don’t be so negative!
@MrGriser I wonder if he has a girlfriend now? lol probably working in a ticket office
Geoff Marshall would be proud.
@Squmbumf24 Yeah but damn, I'd rather be reasonably smart and social, than incredibly smart in one subject and socially inept
And you sussed that out In 10 minutes of TV. Perhaps you’re smarter than you think.
I wonder if Jay works for TfL now?
