Hello, former international student in MQ here, I came to MQ in the end of 2018 and half of the campus were construction sites. I was so excited to see what the campus would looks like when it's done, unfortunately at the end of 2019 I made the fatal decision to go back to my country for spring festival and visit my family for a couple of weeks, then the covid happend and Australia closed its border to us. In the end I had to finish my courses online in my home country, your video really filled me in of what the campus has evolved into, thank you, I wish one day I can revisit MQ like you did.
I’m sorry you got stuck. It wasn’t fair for us to not let international students return to continue their studies but I guess it was a hard time everywhere. I hope you make it back one day!
Omg, you posted an update video! I remember commenting on your uts or old macq video on where I should go after high school. Im now a first year at macq uni doing B.IT and this video comes on up on my recommendations.
Welcome back! That's great to hear :) Yeah, I'm getting around to visit different universities again - I've got updates coming on the Brisbane universities. I'll also have my first videos ready soon on Wollongong and Charles Sturt Uni :)
Your reviews are amazing for international students . Thank you for your efforts to show things in detail. I’m confused between Griffith Gold Coast vs Mt gravatt campus for psychology program. I am looking at helpful faculty placement opportunities and access to airport .
Hey, It was really great of you to bring this video, love it! I just have a quick doubt, how do you see Macquarie ranked for Business analytics? among other Australian University.. or you have better options for Business Analytics.
MQ's business school is well reputed. I'm not sure about analytics specifically but the program is strong there in general. I don't know if I'd recommend "better" options because that's based on many things (like what you want out of your overall uni experience), but MQ is a good uni for many things :)
@albert I am applying for the same course too. I have the same question to ask to Rob, according the QS rankings, Macquarie is in top 70 schools of the for Business Analytics. Let me know which school have decided to join.
Hi Rob, I've read in a few articles that Macquarie has the worst student to staff ratio in Australia quoting Times Higher Education data. How accurate do you think that information is? Has there been issue with academic staffing in the past? Thank you
Yes, I just read this in a different publication a week ago - here’s the article: campusmorningmail.com.au/news/macquarie-u-finances-a-lack-of-cash-and-reliance-on-debt/ This is a concern to me, although I would say that it would depend very much which course you are taking. Some would have better ratios than others. Definitely something worth considering as high student staff ratios are often linked with lower student satisafaction.
@@ChoosingYourUni Hi, would this ratio affect the overall employability of a person after they've graduated in that degree from an employer's pov? The lack of teachers won't really affect me because I'm a self learner.
@yonaxl I attend MQ and the student to staff ratio is pretty bad. That being said, I've generally been happy with the quality of teaching. The student to staff ratio is really evident when it comes to classes filling up quickly and staff not having the resources to open up more classes. MQ definitely needs to work on the issue because the biggest consequence has been a reduction in elective units of study and even cutting out full programs of study. @Tanish Jain it would definitely not affect employability from the employer's POV, it's more of an issue in terms of student experience and, depending on which degree you are doing, may affect you more or less.
Your videos are really helpful, thank you! I'm planning to join a master's degree this year. Which one would you say offer quality education program between Wollongong, Macquarie, UQ, and Griffith (Mt Gravatt)?
Hey I love your videos Just have a question when you mean applied finace is really good do you mean the batchlors of applied finace or the masters Also good you do a video on all the commerce degrees in Australia and how to choose them
The Master of Applied Finance is the specific program that ranks ridiculously highly BUT applied finance at MQ is excellent, including at Bachelor level. That's been the case for nearly 20 years so there are very strong foundations.
Hi Rob, it looks like out of all the universities I've seen ( especially in your channel ) MQ's the one that have been appealing 2 me the most. What about their teaching methods? Are they more theoretical like most universities or are they more hands on and practical? What about part time jobs as students? I've researched quite a lot but I still would love your unbiased take on this, especially since you're also an alumni. Thanks a lot beforehand!
Depends on the discipline, of course, but MQ used to have the title of “Australia’s Innovative Univeristy”, before “innovation” became cool. Uni has always been more practical and closely linked tonindustry and research.
Two good programs, though if it were me I’d be choosing UTS for that program (I’ve heard awesome stuff about their AI and cybersecurity programs). Love MQ as a uni though.
Engineering is relatively new at Macquarie (maybe 10 years off the top of my head?) but management has been a strength of the university for a long time.
Hey Rob, I am planning to study masters of business analytics, can you suggest which university is better either UniSA or Macquarie, please need your suggestion mate 🙌🏼
Ohhhh that’s actually a really tough call. Both have really strong grad business programs. UniSA is dual accredited EQUIS and AACSB. There are not very many business schools that have that and it has some really cutting edge disciplines. MQ has an excellent business school and is world class in areas like applied finance. Analytics is good too. Adelaide and Sydney are really different in terms of cities, so that might be something to think about. Adelaide has a lower cost of living and is less intense. Sydney is incredible but MUCH busier and more expensive. Lots to think about but two great academic programs at least!
The law programs are probably more "prestigious" at unis like USyd and UNSW. However, at Masters level a lot comes down to what specialisation you're doing and what kind of industry connections you can make during the program. That's probably a bit too detailed for my level of knowledge and in the end, if MQ offers specialisations that really interest you, you should consider that more highly than "prestige" imo
Hey Rob I have a question for you. I have gotten an offer for Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Information Technology. Do you think Macquarie is good in both these areas?
It might not be as famous as the Sydney or UNSW programs, but the course is good and the uni has lots of extracurricular options, like the Global Leadership Program and plenty of clubs. Law is very much about getting involved in lots of things: moots, law society, internships etc. If you do those things throughout your degree, you'll end up much better off than someone that goes to a more "prestigious" uni but sits on their arse.
Macquarie always had a good maths and physics set up back when I was there a long time ago. I think the question is what are you hoping to do with it later? Macquarie has strengths in some applied areas, like physics or even in things like actuarial, statistics etc, but I'm not sure about pure theoretical maths. I had friends go to both UNSW and Sydney that had good experiences for pure theoretical, so I guess it depends if you're looking at theoretical or applied.

Awesome. Congrats on the early offer - def takes some pressure off for the exams. Good luck with those 👍
