Let's take a stroll around Macquarie University in Sydney Australia on Friday afternoon.
We will walk from the the Central Courtyard which was open in February 2021 through Student Connect building to Macquarie University Library.
We will explore inside of the buildings as well!
The construction for the Central Courtyard started in May 2019 and was completed in February 2021. This development has exceeded all expectations as the new ‘heart’ of the campus.
The Central Courtyard redevelopment is Macquarie’s largest and most transformative project in 54 years. Designed by award-winning design studio Architectus, the new buildings serve a variety of functions and deliver modernised social and educational infrastructure.
1 Central Courtyard - the new, four-level building is the largest element of the project and incorporates the following:-
Graduation hall and stage, pre-function and function rooms, commercial kitchen and plant area
12 food and beverage retail outlets with large indoor and outdoor casual seating spaces including the Ubar with a terraced area overlooking the lake
26 formal active learning classrooms and informal spaces on the first and second floors
Lincoln building, 16 Wally’s Walk - A campus architectural icon, the four level Lincoln building has undergone an internal and façade refurbishment with the lower ground level containing six retail food and beverage outlets that open onto the Central Courtyard area. The upper floors include office areas containing Higher Degree Research Office and Research Services.
Student Accommodation - a first for Macquarie University, two new student residential towers with 341 beds. The buildings cater for contemporary student study and living needs including function and recreational spaces in the lower ground floor.
Outdoor areas - the contemporary landscape design helps to connect each of the buildings creating an inviting and comfortable space.
The Central Courtyard outdoor space has been populated by a selection of mixed native evergreen and deciduous trees, with some non-native plants lining the surrounding pedestrian thoroughfares. With outdoor entertainment capability and plentiful seating opportunities, this area is a great place to relax and connect with the MQ community.
The landscaped Residential Courtyard adjacent to the new residential towers provide recreational facilities including a basketball court and table tennis. The residents also enjoy a private garden which includes BBQ facilities.
The new Mars Creek development recreates a natural watercourse flowing into Macquarie Lake and an amphitheatre located on the northern side
