@Schuyler Jones actually families between 60-100k have a substantially lower family contribution. Yes they have to pay something, but CU’s FA Dept is famously better to han neighboring comparable institutions like Vassar, NYU, Princeton, or Georgetown. They may not get a full ride but they are often met at a reasonable place. I was lucky to get a full ride and you’re right I am low-income lmao 😂 but it wasn’t just my fellow poor folk friends who got that hookup. In all honesty I was blessed gracias a Díos; but I still worked incredibly hard to make that happen. I was n e r d ASF in high school. I volunteered and did community service while keeping my grades up. Columbia doesn’t focus as much on the SAT as some schools-but they do pay attention. While I achieved “above average,” by no means was it the highest. Mostly, I worked hard and made myself a wanted commodity. I made myself valuable in their eyes. Remember it’s not just, “what can Columbia do for you?” but also, “what can I do for Columbia?” And the answer to that is: make this shit look good/provide a new perspective/ contribute to the CU community in an innovative way. To finance that ish, i hustled (not cheated but h u s t l e d). And my close friends who got a full or damn-near full-ride did the same. Honestly it all comes down to the hustle. You have to work hard to get that dough. You have to be serious about making the FA Dept work for *y o u* Like ok hmmm...here’s some advice of the top do my head: Get get cozy with financial aid and let them know you will literally call every day to check on your shit (& thus be the most polite piece-of-shit annoying kid) & keep your files in order. There will be a lot of them. There are mad forms for everything. Make sure your i’s and cross your t’s; and watch your shit like a hawk. Like most major corporations, Columbia will most definitely try to pull a few slick moves when they think you’re not looking (like raising tuition without general notice, or taking your scholarship amount off their contribution rather than yours [HAVE SCHOLARSHIPS SENS YOU THE FUNDS AND *NOT* THE ACADEMIC INSTITUTION, YOU NEED TO FIGHT FOR THIS HOMIE], or throwing some sort of provisional cost at you senior year)- so stay observant of your financial aid profile, package and all around information. I’m not trying to demonize Columbia or their financial aid department (which I’m sure does the same shit as most USA colleges & universities-tbh which is just a sad footnote to our country’s higher education culture- arguably it operates as a business rather than sincere institution of learning)- but they will choose to treat you as clients instead of students UNLESS you force them not to. What I mean be that is-let them to get to know you. Introduce yourself. Make yourself memorable with a social connection and say hi when y’all pass each other on campus (you’d be surprised at how many Columbia kids will awkwardly scurry by like an insect in the kitchen light lmao 😂). At the bare minimum, just make sure you know who your financial aid officer is. Dont kiss their ass, or harass them by any means bout be someone who they know is serious about getting the best out of your education and isn’t here for play-play. Also make sure that you are transparent with every reason that are in need. For example: if a hurricane has just ravaged your city and fuffed up your house front door, document it, photo it (plus a photo of any subsequent receipts of tools and time to fix it), & pass that jazz over. Now is not the time to be embarrassed; if your parents get divorced; brother’s income no longer supports family; someone had died; is your collective family income has changed at all, or has endured a significant setback- your best bet is to document and get the information over to financial aid. Ask them to reevaluate your package, before finalizing it. My friends!, this education/experience is 100% possible, & not just for the uberrich or full-ride-poor--Molly Middleclass has just as good of a chance too, shes the just gotta fight for it. She’s gotta hustle. That’s what I mean by hustle
It borders on a very dangerous part of town, so hard to forget you are in NYC. The campus is actually very tiny with soot covered buildings and no trees on the main quad. The lawns are hedged off and the campus is gated, as if to stay stay out. Columbia was the worst experience of my life and I am sorry I went to school there.
Class of 2023 here. Being an intl student and aiming for UBC will definitely not be an easy task but that's what life is about am I right? It's meaningless if it's easily earned so let's all do our utmost best, anyone can do it if y'all put your minds to it!!!!!

I got destroyed by some very narcissistic violent roommates and men on campus . People are sick everywhere but the campus is gorgeous and the libraries and bookstores are amazing .
@@malv4935 Thanks, still recovering , the even more sadder part is that my family and relatives got extremely envious and every telephone call or interaction with them was filled with resentment , for instance “remember you will never be as smart as me” ; “the campus , it’s not that great” ; “do you ever even talk to people here” (despite being a classic academic and well regarded on campus by professors) ; “that’s not fair …” ; “well you were in liberal studies so that’s not hard to get into , my son got into MIT” ; and so forth … No sadly my depression continues .

I hope that line of thinking might be of some help to you. Also, have you tried visiting a therapist? Therapy can really go a long way.
@@malv4935 Thank You for your validating and empathic response ; that line of thinking could be helpful ; after Columbia I did reach out to some therapists to only experience gaslighting and forced psychiatric poly-drugging ; due to no where else to turn I stuck it out with them for many , many years only to find out that I got in even more of a mess with zero healing and life -skill building . Lately I have taken matters into my own hands and study and research online and unsure if I would ever trust a conventional therapist ever again , esp. the psychiatrists who just love handing out psych drugs as candy (she even handed me boxes of samples without any adequate medical reasons or medical responsibility) . In any case there are a lot of random conversations I have had on the internet as well that are very insightful - like here with yourself for instance .

@@MrHoustonedyour hardwork gonna make you millioniare someday!!❤

Awesome... Now if I could only afford its tuition and the NYC cost of living...🙄😭
こんにちは🇯🇵すばらしい動画ありがとうございます♪わたしも訪問しました。
love the architecture style❤️ doesn’t feel like you’re in manhattan at all
It borders on a very dangerous part of town, so hard to forget you are in NYC. The campus is actually very tiny with soot covered buildings and no trees on the main quad. The lawns are hedged off and the campus is gated, as if to stay stay out. Columbia was the worst experience of my life and I am sorry I went to school there.
Good for you 🎉😊
Wow amazing history at Columbia University 😮
i will come to you one day or another ~.~
I live in Australia but this is my dream University
Good choice.
Hope you can make it! If ya do, I hope you really enjoy the US!
From British colony to British school lol.
I was able to receive a full ride scholarship for football from them. I’m super excited to be in the city of opportunity :)
Class of 2023 here. Being an intl student and aiming for UBC will definitely not be an easy task but that's what life is about am I right? It's meaningless if it's easily earned so let's all do our utmost best, anyone can do it if y'all put your minds to it!!!!!
Have been been deferred by Columbia with a 1450 SAT as an international student. I'm praying I get in.
i hope i will get accepted in this beautiful university
And today it is the number one Arabic university in the USA. Every good Muslim who dreams of a Muslim America must send his children to this university.
I wish could i could go perusing in that library one day.
Those sculptures monopolized this video! 🦁
Would love to go there for my postgraduate degree one day!
One of my dream universities!
Columbia and UCLA are tough choices but they have become my personal ones. Both feel very fun to me🙂😊
I am proud father my daughter fortunate to study in Coloumbia university LLM.
currently in the waitlist for master program, really wishing to get in. PLZ
I am wait listed here. Hope I could get in
I am a Columbia Alum, the school is beautiful , the academics wide & varied ,but the students are human beings who are displaying basic human nature and are often abusive and evil . I got destroyed by some very narcissistic violent roommates and men on campus . People are sick everywhere but the campus is gorgeous and the libraries and bookstores are amazing .
I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope you are doing well now
@@malv4935 Thanks, still recovering , the even more sadder part is that my family and relatives got extremely envious and every telephone call or interaction with them was filled with resentment , for instance “remember you will never be as smart as me” ; “the campus , it’s not that great” ; “do you ever even talk to people here” (despite being a classic academic and well regarded on campus by professors) ; “that’s not fair …” ; “well you were in liberal studies so that’s not hard to get into , my son got into MIT” ; and so forth … No sadly my depression continues .
@@malv4935 Oh and when I was working very hard to finish my thesis and declined meeting up with relatives , one person said “your diploma is just a piece of paper” -- eventually I became suicidal … Now years later I am working on the depression .
@@sp5704 I'm so sorry that people have been so mean to you. I understand how hard it can be when you're working so hard, only to have people constantly tell you debilitating things. One thing that I tell myself when I hear people say awful things about me is "I don't identify with the label that person gave me, because that's not who I am." I hope that line of thinking might be of some help to you.
I will study there in September. I watch it to learn the areas first
As an international student with an impending 3.0 GPA, broke and a bit dumb, I cannot wait to try and apply for my masters here with a scholarship a 3.5 GPA grad would probably get 😭
I would love to be there😟
Yep, seeing this place in Spiderman back in 02 had no clue this was the actual place
This is so inspiring... I wish i had watched it when i was still in Highschool maybe i would have worked extra hard hahaha
