Great informational video! I'm doing this on my 16 F80 as I type this! Thank you for all the very helpful videos. Subscribed! Keep up the great work. 👍
Super tight bolt just use a wrench at the bottom of the ratchet handle for added leverage lol also wouldn’t put both hands on the bottom of the ratchet handle had a buddy round the fill plug that way 😫
Maybe there's an obvious answer for this, but I wonder whether the air bubbles that I saw in the oil coming from the pump make a difference to the differential operation. Was there any guidance from BMW, or something you learned? The wife did a great job on the haircut! 🙂
+Shnel M4 you’re welcome! And that is weird... if you call the dealer and give them the last 7 of your VIN they should be able to confirm the correct part number for you.
Awesome video - fun and educational at the same time! I would throw in a few thoughts for newbies watching this video to do this type of work. 1. When breaking those plugs loose, always keep a hand at the base of the wrench (where the socket & extender are attached) - this keeps you from pushing off center, slipping off the head of the plug and potentially stripping the hex cavity. 2. I try to use a breaker bar instead of a ratchet to get super-tight bolts loose, your ratchet's gears could slip and send your hands toward something bad. 3. And in addition to using a breaker bar, if a bolt is ridiculously tight, I keep two hollow steel bars (12" long and another 24" long) sitting around to extend my breaker bar to achieve massive torque with minimal effort.
I've tried following your link to the diff oil as I am about to change my own diff oil on a 2016 M4 with 57k miles on the clock (mine appears to have never been done!) but as I am based in the UK the pricing associated with the oil is impractical! I am looking at purchasing some Redline 75w-140 LS diff oil and some friction modifier. Do you think that will be appropriate for our cars?
Thanks to the video but may I ask why the tightening torque is different? You explained that the tightening torque of the drain plug is 60 Nm. However, in ISTA+, I found that the tightening torque of the drain plug is 45 Nm. My vehicle information of ISTA+ is 2017 F80 M3. In ISTA+, I found the tightening torque through below menu. Vehicle management > Repair/maintenance > Product Structure > 33 Rear axle, rear-wheel drive, guide > 3310 Rear axle final drive > 0011259 Oil change in rear axle final drive incl. used oil disposal > Click "Tightening torque 33 11 5AZ" > From the table, "5AZ Screw plug with O-ring" says 45 Nm.
Help Me DIY it definitely had some really fine metallic flakes in it. No need to send it off really but next time I change it, if it looks like that again I’ll be taking a trip to the dealer and asking some questions. 👍
Heads up! FCP Euro also lists the diff oil with the Friction Modifier Booster (82 22 2 282 583), for late model M3’s (mine is a 2018). I opted for same as used in this video (83 22 2 357 992). I double checked with local BMW dealership here in Houston. Their database says use the 992. Thx for video and sage advice on the oil with FM Booster.

Thanks for thr great video! Is it a similar process for the M6 s63tu?
+M.S you’re welcome! Sorry but I don’t know anything about that engine and I’d be guessing. Get ISTA and it will tell you though 😉
Great video and trim! The right equipments really make these jobs easy. I dont have that pump but ill buy the oil and take it to someone to do it
+Zain Rj thank you! The pump is really cheap on Amazon. Link in the description. You can do it!
Hey do you reset the differential after doing the job?
+luis campoverde never heard of that. What would it reset and how do you do that?
Awesome video. Any DCT fluid change?? Or some on the way?
+Justin Ladd yes, hopefully in a week or two!
Help Me DIY I’m waiting for that also and please do the dct filter also thank you!
Jenderson Pen changed the fluid and BOTH filters from my DCT transmission yesterday. Editing the video and posting it today!

Thank you for replying so fast still, I love your vids💯💯
But they don’t look like the SV107’s do you have specifics on the rims I want them so bad🤤

+정건영 thanks! I’m not sure where I got my info from now (not sure if I said in the video), but I would go with what ISTA said for your model year.
Thank you for your quick reply :)
I also checked your model year (2015 F82 M4) in ISTA+.
It also says 45 Nm.

I just did mine at 40,000 miles. It was really dark and sparkly. How did yours look? Same?
+Derek Hanson guess I didn’t show it really well in the video. I wouldn’t have called mine “sparkly” but it was darker.
+Derek Hanson also, if you happen to still have the fluid, you can always send it off to a lab for analysis.
