Hey Jon! They look great :) Thanks so much for all your support. We hope you continue enjoying your boots. We're glad to have you a part of Team Thursday :)
It’s worth checking out Thursday’s approach to shoe soles, Thursday - you have to write this stuff up on your website, that attention to detail I was blown away by!
Wow this is great! I am about to become a teacher and have an MA with aspirations to become a professor as well and want to get these boots for the exact reasons you got them!!
Finally! A reviewer that actually takes care of his boots. I noticed that the creasing is minimal compared to what I've seen from other reviews. Do you use shoe trees?
Thank you! For the Thursdays I actually don't - there's a flap of leather on the inside by the toe cap that catches the shoe tree and makes it very hard to remove. All my other boots have trees
@@JonBakosPhD hi question, where u toe end ? I bought one but my toe end maybe 1 inch before touching the end , I don’t know if the boot is too big ? Thanks
Nice vid Prof. The captains have agreed nicely and have a cool weathered patina, especially the browns. My brown captains are on the way. These would be my first pair of boots and I am quite looking forward to them. 👍
"My Thursday Captains only lasted a month! All I did was wear them to work at a rock quarry every single day for 12 hour shifts, with brutal mountain climbing and hiking on weekends during heavy rainfall and snow! Also I like to walk on the beach through the salt water.... What? Leather "conditioner?" What the hell is that?" --- Most 1-star reviewers But yeah, these really seem to have held up beautifully. I've seen some "years later" reviews, VERY few of them look this good. I'll definitely be taking your advice on conditioning once I order my boots!
I've noticed the same thing from many reviewers LOL these are definitely not working boots, and one look at them makes it clearly obvious Funny enough, when I got my Thursday boots from my girlfriend, she told she bought them so I can have a comfortable pair of boots to wear at work(I'm an EMT) It was sweet but I laughed so hard at the thought of wearing those beautiful boots to work where they can potentially come across vomit, blood, and every other bodily fluid. I love Thursday boots for what they are made for. I haven't seen anything better in the market for the same price.
I have been wondering for the longest if the brown boot was really brown. Thank you so much for your review, I will be purchasing boots for my me and my son. Also appreciate the tip on shoe creams as well.
Were you thinking about ordering any more colors? I just ordered the black and got them yesterday. They are awesome, I was thinking about ordering that brown boot.
I have the brown captain. At first they were to shiny. I like the color now with a hint of burgundy in them . The heels are wearing down really fast but this does happen to all my boots and shoes . I have only had mine 4 months. Still I really do like the boots . I'm in canada so I had to pay more for them .
@@JonBakosPhD thanks for the info. I’ve been wanting to get Nick’s boots. I wear size 11 in most shoes and sneakers. Do they run large? What size would you recommend?
@@louisfolgore2879 Although Nicks has some boots ready-made, they'll recommend that you do a fitting with them - you fill out a paper with a measurement of your foot, and then they'll mail you a sample pair of boots to try on while you talk to one of their people on the phone. For me, my left and right foot are different sizes, so I have two different sized boots from them. (9.5D, 8.5C). They fit SNUG, so be sure that the sizing is right - I think one of mine is ultimately a little too small. I'm going to do a review video, but in my experience they're really finicky - if you put them on exactly right they're incredibly comfortable. Off by even a little and they get hurty.
I'm very interested in buying the black captains but I'm just nervous about the sizing issue. Do you think I should order a half size smaller? Or should I order the size I always wear in boots?
If you’re still wondering about sizing, I’m a US 9.5 M on all Nike and Adidas sneakers. I got the Tobacco Storm King in US 8.5 M. It’s a bit snug but not really too tight. Still has enough room for a thick pair of socks.
Oh man FINALLY, a youtuber reviewing boots who doesn't take pride in showing a beaten up and near-destroyed pair! You are supposed to look after your boots and I really don't understand why so many RUclipsrs run them into the ground and don't keep them in good condition like you clearly have. Your video is MUCH more useful as it represents what the boots look like when treated well, and yours look absolutely fantastic 2 years later! Thanks for the review dude I really appreciate it and I only wish you had talked about the sizing and fit a little more. :)
If you need some good quality laces with lots of nice colours, get you paracord. Trim it to lengthy, melt the ends and they will hold for ever and they are good to tie.
If you want to get individual, when you resole the black ones, have the cobbler put a colored thread on the welt. And maybe some matching laces. Red would look good on black, but any color works. Go crazy.
I have a pair of these. They're alright at best. Ive worn them maybe 75 times in 2.5 yrs. Getting ready for a date the other night and the speed hooks popped off the boot. Contacted Thursday Boot company to try to get them repaired... Nothing... Crickets. So I hit up their facebook page and they freaking blocked me. Guys spend your $200 with a company who will stand behind their products and back them up. These influencers act like $200 for boots is inexpensive. Guy's, I had to bust my ass and save to buy these boots and this company wont even entertain a conversation about repairing a well kept, very lightly used pair of boots bought from them. I was proud to own them. Now I'm embarrassed to say they took my hard earned $$. I would've gotten better wear from a $50 boot on amazon and recieved the same bad customer service
Just bought the black boots and they should be in this week. I’ve seen several other YT’ers say the same thing about the browns and use a burgundy cream/polish. I actually like the looks of those regardless and will probably buy some after I give the blacks some floor time! Thanks for your evaluation!!
I recently ordered a pair of these in the reguler width, so long as I am walking they fit snug, but once I sit for a short period of time they are a bit to tight. Waiting on a second pair I recently ordered in their wide EE-EEE size to see if they actually fit better since I do where an E width. Other then that boot felt great not heavy and actually pretty comfortable for the wearing them for 12 hours. For the price point I don't see how you can go wrong. Aside from how wide they are if you do have wider feet. Just something to keep in mind.
nice review. the burgundy looks really nice but yeh thats not brown. you must be one of the coolest prof in campus. wonder if students ask you about the boots
Do the women's captain boot have a steel shank? A Thursday rep told me they do and there is no difference between the men's and women's captain. But it's not listed on the product page like it is on the men's. I found one website review that claimed the only difference between the two is that the women's don't have a steel shank.
I have the Captain Arizona Adobe and one thing that bothers me is that the knot in my laces comes loose after doing some light walking. So I always have to tie them again once or twice when I'm out and about.
I don't know if you'll see this but I'd look into the berluti knot. It never comes undone and looks great. I use it on my work boots and it hold up all day long.
I do wish Thursday used proper Dainite - it's a noticeably softer sole on these than on other boots I have with Dainite soles. But the soles definitely weren't worn out after four months.
@@JonBakosPhD I agree with you, I walk around 6 miles daily and rotate my boots day on day off I was hoping to get more out of them. Dainite will be next. Regards

I own 2 pair myself , the Black Matte Captain , and Brandy Captain , great boots !
How does the brandy look after using them. The brandy is a veg tan leather instead of chrome tanned

If the heels are wearing down, consider resoling them. The upper boot is made of great material, so if you resole the soles it will be good as new.
Very helpful, thanks for the video.
In your whole collection which boot would you say is the thickest, most durable boot you own?
Nicks Robert, no question. Much thicker leather, full Vibram soles - the things are tanks

hi Jon! i am about to buy import a pair of boots from Peru, if my foot measures 26.5 cm, what size should i order?
Any sizing advice? Thank you!
How did you fit them, you went 1 size down or half
Half - I wear a 10 in tennis shoes, and went for a 9.5 in the Captains.

nice looking boots
You sure those aren’t brown? Oxblood is quite red, it could be the cream you’re using, not that that is a bad thing.
They're definitely not brown, although the light can make it hard to gauge. They're burgundy
use castor oil on mine
Shame about the gloss on the black, they look a lot better as matte.
Then buy the matte. There's no shame about the black gloss.
I am so sickl of Thursday boot videos. You are a victim of their advertising. Stop inflicting that on others.
lol I made this three years ago, and I've reviewed other boots like Tricker's. I feel like I need to make another video about Thursdays just for you
