Benjamin Burnley has a great voice, and the songs come with TOP NOTCH vocal production! Join me for an analysis and tutorial of Ben's singing as well as an in-depth look at how vocal layering, placement and harmonies make a song melody come alive!
You'll get to see and hear how parts of the song were built and be inspired to take things beyond the song for your own fun and enjoyment!
It's so interesting to hear some of the "imperfections" in the isolated vocals like the "uh" or the unstable clean vocals behind the screams. I always end up redoing takes thinking, "How do you get that absolutely perfect like these big time vocalists?"
Ben hits a C5 in backing vocals of Breath, it's impressive
Benjamin Burnley is one of my favourite rock vocalists! Thanks for doing this, Chris and Merry Christmas!!
The entire album is about ones greatest fears and Diary of Jane being about mostly the fear of loss (Benjamin Burnley's being flying and driving, explaining the album cover.) And I truly get the sense of fear through the way Benjamin sings.
It's amazing!
I love the way he uses light and dark in his singing, at the same time extremely articulate and particular in the way he sings. It’s so refined! Truly awesome
My favorite song and favorite band. Really is Christmas. Merry Christmas Chris
I haven't listened to breaking Benjamin in years. You should break down their drums. The guy they had around this time was a huge contribution to their sound in my opinion. A fantastic musician I believe his name is Chad Szeliga
Drums might fit better on a different channel, but I do love isolated drums for sure
@@chrisliepe lol
Also, I would love a voice breakdown in Give Me A Sign vocals., there's a lot of interesting things happening in the bridge after the second chorus with that falsetto in the background, and also in the end, where the "give me a sign" line is presented in very different ways. A video about that song would be super nice!
Ben’s lower background vocals is where we get the comparison to MIW!
Tracking vocals for my band's EP and Ben is a huge inspiration for me. Perfect video to start Christmas!
Also merry Christmas!
adam on never too late. his grit on some of those lines in the chorus is remarkable
Taking me back to the age of seventeen when I was quite certain that it was "the diarrhea Jane." Whatever that is.
Hahahahahahhaha
This is fantastic! One of my favourite songs with this band and hearing him just in the raw is fascinating! And then you break it down!
Merry Christmas!I’ll be around for Conor Mason even when you’re 90 and I’m close to 70 I’ll still be around waiting 🕯 “isolated” is so useful btw it’s just so much in depth!!
I absolutely LOVE your approach on explaining this concept.
I love his voice and it is an awesome insight in how it all comes around.
Man, you could analyze every syllable in this song. Brilliant work, Chris!
Yay. Looking forward to more individual Three Days Grace & Breaking Ben videos.
Breaking Benjamin is one of my fav bands and as a singer and independ producer ,I love to sing their songs and analize their admirable productions. Your videos and your work has helped me in a lot of ways in my own singing and songs, so thank you so much or this. Please keep this series up and do more Benjamin Burnley if possible :) Merry Chistmas Chris!
First one here! Merry Christmas, Chris!
You too... Merry Christmas!!
Wooooo 🤘🏾🖤🔥.... I was expecting BB to be here, I've been trying to nail this for 5-6 months 😎😏
My favourite band and vocalist. Thanks for that analyse
BB never die!!!
Hi again Chris! This is one of my favs. Thanks for bringing this isolated tracks and breaking down into pieces for easy understanding.
I am learning this on my 7-string guitar (I’m a toral noob on any guitar) hoping that one day I can sing as I play. 🤓
Merry X’mas and Happy New year Chris!!!
Merry Christmas mr. Liepe! Thanks for all the videos and helpful lessons you provide for us. Best wishes! 🇲🇽
Super stoked I love this! Thank you!
Never noticed how similar Ben's vocal style is to Chris Motionless's in this song until I saw this video!
Yeah!! Done a video on Chris Motionless too!
I was anticipating the third of the chord! Even before you said you were gonna add another scream! I would've liked that.
Awesome breakdown of the vocals man! love it.
Thank you so much for reacting to and dissecting my favorite rock singer of all time (in contrast to metal which is James Hetfield lol). I find Ben very underrated as a _vocalist_ even though his band became famous partly due to this song. He’s not appreciated as much as say Chester Bennington or Chris Cornell, who were also amazing singers. Thanks again, Chris! Love your videos
I cant wait for a Tim buckley video ! thanks so much for your video Chris !!
Chris, for the love of god, please do a video on Brian Johnson. They boys are back with an amazing album this year, and as huge fan of them, I want to learn what method Brian uses! (and of course how to sing like him too!) I couldn't find a proper video on how to sing like him or his technique, and your videos are always full of information and I actually can understand the "feeling" from your videos. I hope you'll see this! Big thanks for all of your efforts!
Amazing!
You could do that to "Slipknot - AOV", it would be awesome!
Great video! Your analysis is really insightful. You missed out the choir part on the last chorus that Ben sings. Adds a bit of depth.
Don't forget he is in chronic pain, adds quite a lot to the lyrics and emotion
Wow the consonant thing for background vocals is an issue I’ve faced for so long. How have I never thought to just try softening them for the background takes 🤦♂️😂
Great video of one of my favorite songs for the Holidays Sensei Chris! I'm surprised that you did one on this song when you talked about it more than any other song on your how to sing video for Benjamin.
Hey Chris. I love the variety and the vocalists you've been choosing. Ones that stand out to me that I'd love to see some of your input on would be LaJon Witherspoon of Sevendust and Jesse Hasek of 10 Years.
It would be cool to hear the isolated vocal tracks for So Cold. I know there aren't as many layers, but it'd still be interesting.
Ya, those would be great!
youre getting really really good at introducing your videos, good shit br000
Sounds like some Korn influence... especially on the phrase “in my place”
Well he has said in interviews that he's a massive KOЯN fan and his band sometimes does covers of their songs live. Especially an epic acoustic cover he does of clown that you can find on here and it is definitely worth the watch.
I notice a big jon davis influence on those lower harmonies
Merry Christmas! Isolated Periphery would be awesomeness! They mix their own music, too!
I’ve done some of this already! Check out my “how to sing Luke Spencer Sotelo” video in the In the style of playlist!
Thanks for sharing this. It's interesting. Technique helps definitely...
So interest and fun !.
Hey Chris, you made a very interesting themes video👍 Good job👍💪
Thanks for the amazing videos! It would be amazing if you did a Brian Jonhson vocal breakdown. I think you could get a lot of details about his singing and its very diferent to anyother you have done before.
I've listened to this song nigh upon a thousand times, and never did I realize just how staccato the "WHAT HAVE I BE COME" line is. In the full mix, it just sounds like each syllable flows into the next one. But in this, you can hear him deliberately have that 16th note rest between each syllable. Super interesting.
Reason 1022 I love isolated vocals :)
Awesome!!!
I always thought it would be cool for you analyze Jens Kidman from Meshuggah. I think his work across his whole career but specifically on songs like Future Breed Machine from Destroy, Erase, Improve are perfect examples of being kind of a "noteless" screamer but still staying in key with the band. I think a lot of what he does compositionally could be really fun to check out. Also Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
Awesome video.
I love singing tourniquet im a multi mimicing vocalist with death metal background but this is my favorite type of style and range
These are always such a treat. Do you manage to get ahold of these isolated tracks through connections? Just curious. Also, I have recently REALLY got into The Dreadnoughts, a punk rock band that pulls inspiration from lots of different music... then punking them up. I'd love to hear a breakdown or analysis of Nick's vocals.
This is all REALLY inspiring by the by. Just wanted to thank you :)
This is so so coool!!!
Dance with the Devil vocal analysis PLEASE
And Evil Angel
Could you pleaseeee do Aaron Lewis of Staind please!
You would love breaking down Manson's studio vocals as well then!
I'd love to see you unpack the song "waiting on the sky to change" by starset featuring breaking benjamin!!! Love the videos!
nice
It would be very nice if you'd make a breakdown of Little piece of heaven from A7X
Hey Chris, huge fan of Breaking Benjamin, so its very interesting to see this breakdown. I am currently thinking about starting your vocal course, but I cant find any pricing info on it. Im just a poor student, mind telling me in what range the pricing is? :D
Love the video. Sound of silence by Disturbed singer would be awesome.
I was literally just wondering if you did anything on BB and quite happy that you did! Do you show how to sing in his style, apart from a single song?
Still would love dustin kensrue!!
Great !!! What about a video about Sandra Nasic from Guano Apes ??
waiting for a Myles Kennedy breakdown! :)
Do the breath vocal tracks by them, his voice is so insane in that somg
Jake Luhrs vocal breakdown!!
Id love to see a video on jacoby shaddix's vocals from papa roach
Hey Chris Liepe, I want to know your opinion on this because of your credibility. Who has more powerful or angelic vocal’s between Daniel Johns or Ben Burnley
fantastic video! i'd love to see a breakdown of Mario Judah's vocals, his effortless, screamy belts are really unique and captivating.
Isolated brendon urie?
oh GREAT IDEA!
I agree you NEED to do one of Brendan urie
Amazing video!! Could you cover a vocal track of Staind.
Sir react to rajesh nepali my heart will go on his voice is so powerful and he is so underrated
No wonder this song got double platinumed
I remember you were doing a roast a note game, but I never saw a follow-up video on that. Is that coming at all?
Ya prolly the week after next :) I like that some people have been asking about it! I got behind for the holidays but I’ll catch up!!
Thank you for making this video could you please make a video on blow me away oh by the way Mary Christmas 🎄🎄

Streak count: 24
Wonderful job. I would love you to unpack Nirvana's "Rape Me".
Dude, whats the 3rd song that appears in his intro, it sounds amazing
You can hear it on Spotify if you search my name :) It's called "Love Someone"
@@chrisliepe Thanks!! You're awesome, your videos are helping me a lot with improving my voice and your music is also GREAT!
Hey Chris, how do you figure out the levels for each of the vocal tracks that you add and how much they need to be panned? I struggle with layering because many times I feel like when I hear my layered vocals with the instrumental I can make out that they are many overlapping tracks, and it's not subtle enough like actual songs.
I just guess... and then if I like it, I leave it alone. If I don’t, I kinda fumble around til I like what I hear. Haha. I wish it was more complicated for me or that I had some method, but I don’t :). It’s basically just reactionary listening.
@@chrisliepe Thanks Chris. Do you generally focus on how it sounds with the music or just in "acapella" when figuring out these levels?
How do you extract all those different loops?
I find them on RUclips most of the time!
Isolated Kurt Cobain
Lounge act
Isolated Oli Sykes?
Where can we find these isolated vocal tracks?
Could you do this with Doomed by Bring Me the hoizon, with the isolated vocals from Oli Sykes AND Jordan Fish's ones
Thanks so much Chris - you helped me a lot on this song as I prepared for our final performance in the Adult School of Rock Showcase here in Frisco, TX! Along with your other videos on types of distortion that also helped, I feel good about my performance. Check it out if you have a sec: ruclips.net/video/mxQlZ4NQ2DQ/видео.htmlsi=_zcv0oCjxxDW5MtZ. While I have some Choir background, know that I've only been singing rock live with a band for about 8 months. Thanks!
So the key to good *production* vocals is doubling.
You still have to be good at singing, but the common thread between most rock songs are doubled vocals.
Ya a bit part of what we hear is due to vocal production. Doubling, placement, effects, overall arranging... HUGE.
19:07 DIARRHEA
Haha
That's a lot of doubling!
What program is that?
