The algorithm popped this up in my recommended feed. And I'm glad it did- this was really well edited, humorous, and dang was ever a rollercoaster of emotions. I wanna bring my PSP out of storage again after watching this. It still works; I have a TON of games on that thing, including MACH (really proud of that one); but barring nostalgia- I think I'll probably not. Glad to have watched this; and I don't know how to end this comment, but have a wonderful day.

That thing probably tries to clean the optical laser. For disk drive cleaners you usually want some kind of cleaning solution to clean and also act as a lubricant to prevent scratching or damage to the laser. If used correctly they can fix some disk drives that are acting up or not wanting to work properly
Though for that specific one based on the design it might have damaged the motor, hence the funny smell and awful sounds (disk cleaners sound awful anyways but that was way worse)
In the end its best to get comfortable cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and a q tip and a careful touch. You'll do a better job than even the best disk drive cleaner and you dont have to worry about if the disk drive cleaner is a good one or if itll break your stuff

I'm glad I just have a PSP Go, unpopular opinion, but I think it's the best, and I've got big hands, but I've got several other PSP's, a 1000 & a 2000, and on those I never really used the UMD drive anyway, now that I own Go's, I have never again touched the 2000.
Sucks it didn't work, weird because the CD/ DVD/Blu-ray cleaning discs do actually help in laser repair.

What exactly was the purpose for the battery in that thing?
The battery was for the tiny motor in it that vibrates the little brush pad. The UMD drive itself doesn't seem to do anything when you close the door. That noise you hear is just the cleaner vibrating the brush against the lense for the laser.

Just mod the psp I just modded my cause of the umd drive when jailbroken my psp I just play my games on my memory card via roms or iso
Do you have lag with ISO? I downloaded GTA liberty city stories but I have a lot a of lag (low fps)
