A few months ago I was driving on a 2 lane road with traffic moving in the opposite direction in the left lane and I saw an ambulance ahead behind a car so I just came to a complete stop and the car in front of the ambulance also came to a complete stop just a few feet ahead of me so the ambulance can safely pass and the driver of the ambulance gave me a quick wave as he was passing and it honestly just made me feel good, like I did something nice lol

you should mention not to wait for the er vehicle to reach the blocked traffic. take action once you hear the siren. and by moving to the side and stopping or slowing down you actually keep the volume of traffic behind you so the er vehicle can drive freely up ahead.
I always get so stressed out when I hear the alarms. Like the light will be green and lots of people behind me, but ill be unsure of where the alarms are coming from and unsure if I should proceed or not

Hi Aman Salimpuri - I think it's awesome too my friend. What are you working at there in Surrey - are you going to school or working? All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest Hello Rick, I'm going to school currently. My N license road test is on October 19th, and this is the second time I'm going to be taking it. Ever since I failed last year, I have improved so much and have been practicing for months, so it'd be really nice for me to pass this time! I also have been watching your videos a lot lately and never miss an upload. Do you think ICBC would let me use a Toyota Four Runner for my road test, given that it satisfies the safety checklist? Thank you for the response!
If you’re driving on a 2 lane highway / single carriageway road for those in the Uk, if an emergency vehicle come up behind you especially when approaching a bend, don’t stop immediately as it’s may not be safe for them to pass you.
In downtown Prescott Arizona today I was in the left lane in heavy traffic with an oncoming ambulance from the other direction. I wanted to stop or pull over, but as everyone on my side of the road kept driving normally I could have gotten in an accident.
Hi Watchful Eagleson - yes, sometimes the traffic on the other side simply doesn't move over my friend - especially if there is a barrier in the middle. As you learned, it can be a bit tricky at times with emergency vehicles. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Esosa Jonathan - almost all of the video is in Vernon my friend. I've been poaching emergency vehicles for a couple of years now! 😜All the best, Cheers Rick
Hello Rick. I just wanted you to know that Volunteer Firefighters may either use green or red lights in their personal vehicles, depending on Provincial laws. Green lights are courtesy lights, where you don't have to pull over, and they can't break road rules. Red lights in their personal vehicles are either courtesy lights or emergency lights, depending on the Province, I'm in Saskatchewan, and our Volunteer Firefighters, when permitted by municipal bylaw, blessed by the fire chief, and when trained by the Province, may use red lights and sirens in their personal vehicle. You have to pull over for them here, and they can break traffic laws. Also, your official website does not mention Volunteer Firefighters' personal vehicles being able to use red lights and sirens. So if you could update that, that would be appreciated.
🖐🔥 I’ve found my commute time cut down a lot by tucking in behind an emergency vehicle and sticking close to their bumper. I also benefit from better gas mileage from staying in the emergency vehicles draft. 👍🏻
Can you tell me this scenario what smart driver do ? In a red light and this time emergency vehicle approach what we should do ? Can we go straight at intersection for give space for emergency vehicle ?
i was alredy at the red light, left lane, waiting so i could do a U-turn.. the median has a steel barrier/fence.. two Bozo's didnt pull to the right to let the emergency vehicle through.. (lights and sirens were on) they pulled up to the red light with me. nobody moved. we were all first in line in our lanes. nobody behind us. except that emergency vehicle... i took my car and slowly straddled the crosswalk in front of the Bozo's, basically cleared my lane for the emergency vehicle to pass, and they did pass through the intersection through a red light... i ended up doing a weird right turn from the far left lane.. so that was cool.. hoping i dont get a ticket in the mail for that...
So you got a ticket? If so, did you appeal? It wasn't me but i saw the other side there was traffic and the ambulance couldn't got through because of one idiot driver who didn't want to move to the side because he had a red light. We had left green but we didn't move so the ambulance could pass but that driver didn't move no matter how many times the ambulance sounded his emergency sound. It was so frustrating to watch.
Pet peeve: if you are in the right lane of a multi-lane highway with NO shoulder, and the vehicle is behind you with lights/sirens/horns and the right signal on, chances are we want you to move over to the left as we have an exit coming up.
sir can you make a video to show what is the best position of your foot to use automatic vehicles because you use just one foot for both gas and break paddle or if you already have this video regarding my qs then please share me its link. also share me how to avoid aggressive break when you are with an examiner. please also tell me if you are in left lane on a 2 lane road divided by a yellow divided line and theres an emergency vehicle is behind you and unfortunately you cant move to the right lane to pull over because there are some other vehicles parallel to my vehicle in right lane, what should i do? i am talking about to the left moving lane not left turning lane. should i stop in the left lane or what? thanks
everytime I hear sirens when driving, I immediately slow down to search where it's coming from and hug the right hand side until I see it or keep crawling until I don't hear the sirens anymore if I can't find it.
In the UK these vehicles have no special rights on the road. Their drivers are subject to the same laws as anybody else. That said it is usual for drivers to give way assuming they can safely do so.
What would happen if you were the front vehicle in the line and a red light camera and nowhere to pull over and you went through the red light in order to clear the lane, would you still get a ticket?
As I said in the video, if you’re stopped at an intersection, just stay put. As you saw in a couple of the clips, the EV driver will figure it out. Going through the intersection just causes confusion. And yes, most likely you’d get a ticket. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick
It depends, If it is the furthest left lane with some sort of middle devider and a red light someone has to move.... my advise, with extreme caution pull forward and infront of the car immediately to your right. If there is no divider stay put
3 lane road, 45mph, you're in the left lane, emergency vehicle is in the middle lane approaching from behind but you don't see it until it's too late. Do you stay in the left lane, slow down and let the emergency vehicle pass through the middle lane? Do you cross over the middle lane to get into the right lane and slam on the brakes? I think staying in the left lane and slowing down is the safest decision, maybe not the best. Please feel free to share what you think is the best decision
Tysm, it's really helpful for me to watch this video. I wasn't sure if I should pull over on the interstate for emergency vehicles, since it feels unsafe to stop completely on the shoulder. I noticed in some places, there is a white bulb next to the traffic signal that will flash if an emergency vehicle is approaching.
Yes, on the interstate, just move to the right lane my friend. And yes, most emergency vehicles have a strobe light that activates the traffic light. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Aidan Landman - Apologies for the late response. If you're in the left turning lane, it's often best to just stop my friend. Often the emergency vehicle will go out into the other lane of traffic to move through the intersection. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
An additional tip, when trying to identify wether a car with lights is either an unmarked police car or a volunteer first responder look at how many lights they have. Most volunteers are regulated for 1 light bar with 360 view or 1 light in the front, while unmarked police vehicles have an assortment of either all blue or blue & red all over the car. Edit: That’s something I learned because police like to use the excuse for pulling volunteer first responders over are over their lights.
I don't think it's an one answer fits all. If you are the only car, I would pull to the shoulder, unless the emergency vehicle is mostly on the shoulder anyway. If there are other cars about, I would do what ever blocks their path least.
Hi Snow Flake - We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
