The Terminator (1984) - Movie Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2019
- The Terminator kicked off one of the biggest scifi/action franchises and the mega-career of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Blending the not-so-distant reality of technology uprising and the theme of love across time, The Terminator is still one of the greatest films of all time.

@@francisalbert1799 anyone of these would be ideal for home defense
'I came across time for you Sarah..I love you I always have" i think is the most beautiful line like ever...
Absolutely
It IS very romantic
It’s funny because I hate romantic films for the most part but I love their romance in this film.
U know fuck all bout films terminator isnt a slasher and its not a horror film its a sci fi action @@CodyLeachYT
@@HEYitzEDthe studio forced Cameron to up the romance between them he wouldn’t have done it otherwise
"You can't do that!"
"Wrong!" *BANG*
Rest in peace Dick Miller
I love this one more than the sequel. The slasher horror tone really gets me.
Definitely handles it better than Predator
same man, same
i understand why someone would say that...
that being said i do think that T2 is better in literally every way
Agreed. I like the darker mood in this one better, although T2 was pretty awesome as well.
So do I. I know I’m very alone on that one though.
While we did plan the reviews well in advance, we NEVER discussed thumbnails and we ended up doing the exact same POSE and damage under the glasses gag....that was TOTALLY unplanned.
Just the way I like it
Happens all the time with us lol
We all would do it in your shoes lol
🎶 "You got me burning in the 3rd degree" 🎶
Brilliant song great scene
Awesome stuff 🎶
My favorite film of all time. This, T2 and Aliens are Cameron's best
I would throw in True Lies in there as well! That’s another great movie!!
As great as T2 is, The Terminator is hands down my favorite of the two. It's darker, more violent and has the better score. I always remembered T2 being a lot tamer and almost too "kiddie". I recently watched T2 for the first time in a long time, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was much more graphic, violent and dark for that matter than I had remembered. That being said, the original is one of my favorite movies of all time. Yes I certainly agree that it is a slasher film.
Well it's supposed to be a Sci Fi/Action Thriller, the best thrillers are those that have some horror elements, but still have it qualify as a Thriller, basically what your talkin' about with the Terminator in this one is it's a damn near unstoppable Cyborg hit man that's here to fulfill a contract on Sarah Connor, and you have a hero whose essentially here to protect the target and kill the Terminator if it's possible, is it scary as shit, absolutely, but I thought it never fully qualified as a straight up Horror film, but a Sci FI Thriller with some white hot action scenes.
T2 is _made_ with kids/teens as a major part of the audience in mind. T1 was a gritty, distopian and believable slasher movie for once for adults only but the commercial success drew a lot of children to the franchise for obvious reasons.
I mean T2 is literally about some kid fighting alongside the original Terminator. It's made for young teens to put themselves into John Connors shoes, period. The added humor is comedic relief which is crucial for such a comparatively dark kids movie, whereas the first one was tense almost all the way through. And the incredibly cringy "I know now why you cry, but it is something I can never do" at the end just makes one roll ones eyes so much, it's unbearable.
I don't think T1 and T2 can even really be compared with one another.
This movie is literal perfection. Best in the franchise and one of the greatest films of all time and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like James Cameron’s movies (besides the first two terminators).
0:22 dude is trying to be Chris Stuckmann... Lol
What?
I got into The Terminator back when it was on VHS in 1987 my mom scolded my Dad for not seeing it because it was rated R but my dad let me see it and regardless I loved it ever since. Sure the effects are dated but it was a miles league better than Genisys. Can't wait for the T2 review Cody.
I iust realized that I don't think I've ever seen the first Terminator, only part 2. Need to fix that immediately.
Arnold was born to play this role
You know what, I was kinda shocked to hear you say that this was a slasher film. Honestly I don’t think I have ever thought of this film as that but you are absolutely right. You literally just blew my mind
My work here is done...
great review, nailed it. Especially in mentioning "Slasher"
Yes it is! It does so many things - slasher, love story, action, horror, sci-fi, chase film...
excellent soundtrack, replay value, etc.
Cody, I could see you in a horror movie playing a local sheriff after a maniac!
This is one of my favorite horror/Scifi films of all time. The sequel is my favorite film of all time in general.
Let's face facts one and two should of been the only two films made for terminator because they had a purpose. The rest of them were used to make big money which is why none of them after t2 have not been successful. The reason for that is because t2 had the ending it needed to close out the franchise! Lol
' horror ' lmfao.
It's an action movie.
Dumbfuck.
@Phantom Alpha no I agree with you on that but the way they ended t2 was the perfect ending. If t2 had something left open for sequel I believe the sequels would have been as good as the first two where. It doesn't one way or the other if john Connor is in it or not from t3 to now seemed all forced and to me that's why they are crap in my eyes. Don't get me wrong they are fun and entertaining but they are not anywhere near from t1 or t2 when it comes to storylines and having you invested in what they are presenting to the viewer.
@@luiskern8910You're pathetic. Lol I actually laughed at your comment though, so thank you for that.😁
Daniel Hammond you're pathetitc, you stupid fucking idiot. Most people will laugh at you for calling it a horror movie, cause it's simply not true. Smh.
Oh my God I watch the intro twice. I love the intro Cody leach.
Seeing this in my recommended made my day
The Terminator is one of my favorite movie franchises of all time I'm so glad you're reviewing it
FINALLY!!! The original Terminator is in my top 20 favorite films! The second one, however...😏😏😏
My favorite in the franchise. I agree with you that The Terminator is a slasher movie. The structure, the tone, the character of the Terminator, the gore - like a slasher but in different clothes
This movie actually scared me as a kid. But I have horribly hilarious story,
My very religious aunt pointed out the scene of Arnie running naked you can see his mini Schwarzenegger swinging to and fro. 🤣🤣
I was a little disappointed that you neglected to mention the excellent soundtrack by Brad Fidel. That opening and closing theme is the best example I can think of where music can almost entirely tell the story by itself. You hear that percussive thumping and synths representing the ceaseless March of the machines. Then you hear what could be Humanity's theme, later echoed in the love scene, striving to find hope and a way out but then getting lower and fading out. Finally you have what sounds like the confrontation to determine the victor / Survivor. It's just incredible and another thing that does not seem to age with the film.
Cody enjoys these intros too much 😂
That beginning was great!
I've always seen this one as more of a horror movie, it even has a final girl which is a classic slasher trope
It's for sure a slasher film!!! Definitely agree it belongs in the horror genre.
And that’s the problem of all the followers from T3 up! They are all ordinary and lame action movies, have nothing to do with the brutality and darkness of especially T1 and T2! ♥️
Acctually this is my favourite in the whole franchise!
I loved this movie when I was a kid
Can't decide which film I love more T1 or T2 both are great, but the horror scfi atmosphere of T1 sets it apart from the others.
Thank you for talking about one of the main reasons why I love this movie, the love story, it's raw and unexpected "I came across time for you Sarah". What woman could resist that? Definitely my favorite film of the series.
Feminazis', that's who, of course they really don't qualify as real women.
The Terminator is the best movie ever made, and it has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Francesca Gonzalez Ramos
One of the best movies on Rotten Tomatoes (although it’s debatable if it’s true)
I don’t understand why people keep using rotten tomatoes as a valid source. I love the terminator but rotten tomatoes is an absolute garbage website
This is great! I prefer T2, but T1 and T3 are good too imo
I love the extra mile u go with these type of vids brother. 😎😎
Don’t know why I never thought of it as a slasher! That was awesome.
Can’t wait to see your T2 review! (aka the best movie in the franchise to me, in my top 10)
T1=Horror movie/Love story
T2= Massive Action Movie
T3= More toned down Action Movie
T Salvation= John Connors story after Judgment Day
T Genesis= To much weird shit that ruined the movie. Sometimes less is more.
T Dark Fate= Hopefully the Terminator movie we have been waiting for since T2
T2 is my fav movie of all time. However I love the original Terminator as well. I thought LH and AS were great in this but MB ad Kyle was the standout for me. The story was great. It was so unique to have the love story be so important to the plot and you believe and feel it every beat. Awesome movie
2nd favorite movie of all time Cameron borrowed heavily from Halloween Terminator/Michael Myers, Kyle Reese/ Dr. Samuel Loomis, Sarah Connor/ Laurie Strode and my favorite movie of all time is Halloween. Michael behns acting is so underrated maybe greatest acting performance in a sci-fi/ horror / action film ever long live this brilliant classic.
I actually think the stop motion effect that they used on the endoskeleton in the first movie made the T-800 all the more creepier. Like even though it was badly Damaged and no longer even moved human like it just would not stop
I agree
Codyyyyy, I love your vids bro but you should bring back the old intro with that dope guitar run 😂😂😂💯
I love your emphasis on Slasher for this movie. I always saw it as a horror movie but never thought of it as a Slasher film.
Awesome intro! I’ve always wanted you to review the Terminator franchise. I can’t wait for Dark Fate! I was a bit nervous after the first trailer and i still am, but with James Cameron behind producing the movie and that it’s a straight sequel of T2 which makes it much more interesting I really hope it can redeem the franchise. Love your channel btw👌
You never mentioned the most badass scene. The police station massacre! By far my favorite scene, they had to detach the stock on the SPAS12 so he could one hand shoot it.
Its a syfy action slasher movie. Thats why it is one of my favorites.
When I first watched this movie at aged 13, my Gaad! It's perfect in every level, the intro, the music score, the suspense, the acting, the way Linda Hamilton (beauty and the beast) had gone from vulnerable to tough cookie, I really wanted Reece (Michael Behn) to live. I loved this movie better than Aliens even. I have seen Terminator Genisys, that threw all concepts out of the window about John Conner and the original Terminator movie, loved it too.
T2 is by all means the best of franchise, no debate. This one is definitely a classic tho....💯
"Where's wolfie" oh wait..
Cody Leach i agree with you that the terminator is a slasher. Because when i say that the terminator is a slasher movie then people starts to agrue with me that is not a slasher. Thank you Cody for saying that clearly!
As soon as the Credit Title intercrosses with that beat and dark techno music, that alone gives me goosebumps... incredible movie.
I personally believe, while not the father of the story, Dean Koontz was, at least, the grandfather of the story behind the Terminator, with his 1974 short story, "The Night of the Storm".
Basic synopsis: In the future, a supercomputer ran the world. It had refreshed it's memory so many times, it had forgotten it's own past. In this world, robots were the dominant species of the planet, partaking in a myriad of activities, including high danger vacations, such as climbing the highest mountains, and withstanding earthquakes and hurricanes, after which they can tend to become bored and need more of a challenge. In this story, a group of robots decides to go hunting for game in a the wilderness, their strength and all their senses having been decreased to increase the excitement of the hunt, and armed with non-lethal drug rifles with which to hunt deer and other wildlife, as they have a pacifistic Prime-Directive against the taking of life. However, during the hunt, a snow storm hits the area, and something begins hunting and killing them off, having killed one of their hunting party and stolen it's legs. It was finally determined to be a lone, wild human being, who they killed out of survival instincts when he attacked them, against their Prime Directive, but attributed crypid-like, almost supernatural associations with, stating the lore, "He dismantles robots, though none but other men know what he does with their parts...", and "If killed by any means other then wood, man only appears dead! In reality, he springs to life, elsewhere unharmed, in a new body!". Being too weak to bring him back to the lodge, as proof a human existed, and being unable to tell anyone for fear of ridicule and loss of potential promotions in their jobs in the normal world, they returned, and decided to spend long periods of time in inactivation nooks try to help them forget and cope with the encounter, and deal with their having killed something, although they all know it will forever haunt them.
When one of their number was killed by the human, it was remarked, "He's been terminated!", and later, "Suranov, are you saying humans did this to Leeke? / Until we do know who terminated Leeke, it's safer to believe in human beings!", and, still later, "Was he already terminated when... when...? / When they dismantled his legs? We can only hope he was!".
My mind is blown. I never thought of The Terminator as a slasher film but it totally is.
Hey Codey!!!! SO happy that you are doing another one of these but for Terminator!! Good lad thank you 👍👍👍
That Terminator rock intro was badass! As well as this review to one of my favorite films of all time!
Love the mix between the Terminator theme song and your intro!
This movie is amazing and honestly one of my favorites just because it launched all those careers it did. I mean Arnold Schwarzenegger became the biggest action star ever because of this franchise (predator is my favorite though), James Cameron has had probably 4 of the greatest Sci Fi movies ever. Michael Beihn is awesome. I hate that he never became a bigger star (I blame alien 3). Anyways this is one of the greatest movies ever and still holds up amazingly to this day.
I personally like the fake animatronic Arnold head.
While T2 is a better movie(a movie masterpiece)T1 is my favorite movie in the franchise. It's the only Terminator movie that is a tense horror movie, and being about 6 years old I remember the hype when it came out being called the scariest scifi movie since Alien.People was losing their shit when they realized Arnold was the villain, and to be honest even though I love T2 and Patrick's T-1000 Arnold is still the best most intimidating Terminator in the series.
Saw it in late 2019 at the age of 26 for the very first time - well, consciously i.e. not as a small kid - and it became my favorite movie of all time INSTANTLY.
If you watch it, you will notice that not a _single_ second of this movie can really be cut.
-No forced exposition.
-Show and don't tell, especially the 2 arrival scenes in the beginning.
-Masterful subliminal messaging via artistic use of various stylistic devices.
-Incredible acting even by supporting roles, but the intensity of Kyle Reese especially during the car chase after the night club scene is Oscar worthy.
-A LOT of depth in every way: accuracy of time travel, even though many people falsely come to the "infinite time loop" conclusion. Great world building behind the scenes. Other than that, deep analyses generally come to the same conclusions, which is very hard to achieve as a writer.
-I agree that this is a slasher film. During the phone call in the night club the offices says "you're in a public space so you'll be safe". NO - this thing doesn't respect any kind of social norm which even some deranged killer would. He is a truly unstoppable monster and it remains believable, as opposed to every other slasher movie ever made, which is why it is the only slasher movie that is terrifying.
The only things that don't stand the test of time are of course the "patch up" scene with the doll and the stop motion at the very end. Luckily AI image interpolation can already fix the latter for free, while the former has to be done with a digital 3D model, which remains difficult to this day.
Still, all in all, an EASY 10 out of 10.
You had me at the opening text Sir; well done!
Agree on virtually everything you had to say about this one; it’s short for a Cameron film, so it spends less time on setup than the others and just dives into that pool of adrenaline. That’s probably also why his lay-the-themes-out-in-bold-type scripting style is less evident than in most of his other movies. (True Lies - Cameron’s most atypical film - has those two qualities as well.)
James Cameron is one of those filmmakers who takes his time & doesn’t come out with a new movie very often, but that care pays off as I don’t think he’s made a bad movie yet. (Sergio Leone & Quentin Tarantino fit that description too.)
Not sure why calling it a slasher or horror movie should provoke arguments: a number of reviews called it this when the film first came out (some of them bemoaning that it was just another eighties slasher but with sci-fi trappings). The transition from horror in the first instalment to action in later movies would be done in the Alien movies too, of course.
Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series, and am curious as to whether you rate the first or second films higher; like the Alien films, Evil Dead series or Romero’s Dead series, there’s far from a consensus favorite.
One of the local weather channels calls their weather system Skynet. I'm like excuse me, have we not learned?!
I like the first Terminator movie allot, but I must confess I like Terminator 2 a little more . I was 16 when the first one came out, and those effects were good for their time, but your right in that they don't really hold up well in 2019 . An one last thing I discovered Sean Chandler's, and your channels last year, and I've loved them ever since . Please keep up the good work, and keep collaborating together .
Finally, someone else recognized the first movie as a sci fi horror film! I kinda wish they kept some of those elements in later movies.
I have recognised that fact for years which is why it is my favourite... Better than T2 in my opinion.
Ironically some of the robotic performances of Arnold would convince studios that he was more capable than just robotic performances
Cool intro !
Love that version of the song too.
“Come with me if you want to live.”
Happy finger puppet ghost month Cody, I wasn't expecting this to be the first review in Spooky Month.
Also I agree that The Terminator is a slasher.
7:50
What's amazing is you can really look at this film as a horror film, videos have been made about it and even the TV Tropes page acknowledges it...plus this was Cameron's big mainstream debut after his indie thing with "pirahnna 2 the spawning", so that horror edge is still lingering in his filmmaking
Also you can watch a film like "it follows" and see the similarities
I remember seeing T2 on tv the last scene when Arnold goes into the lava and noticed Edward Furlong from Pet Sematary 2 was in it was kinda cool and I found both Terminators on DVD in my parents movie collection It was a fun Saturday watching it felt like I was at the movies
Man, I’m glad you’re reviewing these! My brother n I grew up on terminator as well! Can’t wait for dark fate!
Now free on RUclips.
I saw The Terminator back in ‘85 & it literally scared the Shit out of me. I’ve seen it more times than I can remember & I’ll always love it. I love T2 (I saw T2 at the cinema) as much but for me The Terminator is still the best of the series. I think mainly because of the horror elements. Those scenes that you say feel dated to you but for some reason they don’t seemed dated to me maybe because I saw it when I was a kid 😁
Great review Cody!
Can’t wait for your T2 review!
“It can’t be bargained with! It can’t be reasoned with!”
Badass shirt Cody! Great review as always !
Love it Cody! Had On Dvd. And just got it on Blu-ray!! T-2 Is by far,The Best Terminator Film! Love Your Reviews!!!
Nice review as always Cody! I'm glad you are covering the Terminator series. I'm only a fan of the first two - James Cameron directed - films. Oh, and T2 - 3D: BATTLE ACROSS TIME which I was lucky to have seen twice at Universal Studios Orlando and Japan.
THE TERMINATOR - the 1984 original is a perfect film. Sits at Number 10 in my Top Ten Favourite Films of All Time!
LOL CODY!!! The Beginning, The writing, hahahaha! I love it! U still and always will make me laugh....Thank u for that, i need a good laugh ... and i know right where to find it! xoxooxoxox " JENN" THE WAR ON RUclips!!!
YES! HAPPY OCTOBER BRO!
Best scene in this film is the phone both scene, "I dont care what you're doing come and get me.... WHAT THE!" 😂
Hey man you gotta serious attitude problem.
I love that scene! 😄
7:51 I totally agree! I was 12 when I first watched it and it creeped me out like no slasher ever had, has or ever will.
Im really diggin the remake of the beat you made awesome dude🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is in my top 5 films of all time, the low budget night time shooting of LA in it's gritty environment, combined with incredible fx, chase sequences, awsome characters and a bomb score make it timeless. I've always thought this was Arnolds best performance as well, he's terrifying in this. The fact Cameron had 6 months before shooting to story board the entire film shows in how well this was constructed for maximum thrill.
The only thing that doesn’t age well in this movie is some of the special effects
Is was made with 6.4 million dollars. Honestly they did a lot of impressive effects with the small budget.
Have you reviewed 13 ghosts yet? I know it’s an oldie but I haven’t found a review for it on your channel and would love one.
Greatest movie of all time
T2 is the greatest film ever made, if you dont cry at the end you got a god dam black heart
So if you don't cry then you have a normal heart?
Yeah, I also grew up with this franchise. Definitely one of my favorite sci-fi franchises. T-1 and T-2 will always be some of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. The other 3 movies I do enjoy, I might be in the minority here but my least favorite Terminator movie is Salvation just mainly because I don’t find that movie enjoyable, no Shwartzeneger, poor lighting, poor acting. I do enjoy Rise of the Machines and Genisys, and I recognize the flaws that both of those movies have. I’m probably in the minority but I actually enjoy Genisys more than Rise of the Machines. It’s a more entertaining movie for me.
I'm with you on it
I like The Terminator, being a slasher villain. Some the effects are laughable, but still enjoyable for what it is, in my opinion, it's my most favorite. 🐶
My ranking:
1. Terminator 2
2. The Terminator
3. Terminator 3
4. Terminator: Genisys
5. Terminator Salvation
1. Terminator
2. Terminator 2
All others are trash.
Mackenson Sparks hell no. At least T3 was decent. And rated R.
@@MacStatic Wrong! Terminator Genisys is fantastic, I loved the concept but I wished Linda Hamilton and Michael Behn were in this instead.
@@MacStatic Agreed.
Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between the original Terminator and Halloween?!
I want to see you review the docudrama bucket of chuckles 'Threads'
that would be amazing, especially considering how impactful it was on its release in 1983
Threads and The Day After might as well have been about Judgement Day, cause that's what it was in the Terminator films, the nuclear nightmare scene in T-2 SCARED THE SHIT outta me when I first saw the uncut version of it on T.V. (before that, they edited out the really shockin' parts of it), and that was when I was in my mid teens, I saw T-2 a shitload of times on T.V..
What’s the cool mood music looping in the background of this? 👍
T2. Saw it w my dad in theatres so it has a special place
Hey Cody I'm a big fan of ur channel that opening intro music was bad ass. I'm a pro wrestler an if there's a full version of that music I'd love to use it as my theme song. Would love to know if that'd be cool with u
It's not my music man I found it a long time ago free for use. I dont know a title to give you
Arnold was truly scary as the T-800 villain. Every time he was on screen, there is this sense of fear.
He definitely had a genuine menace to him in that film.
The Terminator is fantastic. I actually have a hard time choosing between this and T2 for best of the franchise, that's how good it is. My number one Arnold movie is the first Conan, though, so they vie for number two on that list.
Hell yeah! I was hoping you'd do the Terminator movies. I love the first one and how it's a mix between action, sci-fi, and horror. Second one is just pure badass because it's full of action and super well made. Personally I didn't like number three or four, and I'm one of the only few Terminator fans who like Terminator Genisys. However they should have stopped after number 2 only because they keep dragging it out and making worse and worse sequels, even though I like Genesys, I will say it could have been better in a lot of ways. Can't wait to hear your opinions on the franchise.
Im definitely gonna watch this after work. But, Cody, will you ever review Orphan (2009)?
Hey Cody I have a cool fact for you that alot of people didn't notice, and that's one of the street punks Arnold's kicks the shit out of is Bill Paxton I think he's the one with the mohawk.
Fucking awesome intro mate!! Love some of these films!!
