Fantastic intro Cody, Terminator : Salvation is convoluted movie in that the movie is not half bad-it has very good performances. I just can't get over Christian Bale doing John Conner in his Batman voice, Sam Worthington is great as the human who doesn't realize he's been turned into a cyborg. This should have really just called this movie Terminator: Future Wars, I give it a 3.5 and it is definitely a lot better than T3 and I haven't been able to sit through all of Terminator : Genesisy.

Great review. I personally don’t like this film but was very interested in hearing someone who likes it.
If you haven’t read the comic book: “Salvation: The Final Battle”, it was a 12 Part series published by Dark Horse in 2014 that bravely carries the name of Salvation and continues the story established from the plot points set up in this film, as well as the first three, showing the war from both John and Skynet’s perspective and actually giving a satisfying and logical conclusion to the saga before Genysis even came out.
As a fan of the first two films, I can say it’s worth the read if you want a story that embraces the bad as well as the good, culminating into a surprisingly emotional and epic ending to the story.

I really like this movie. I have issues with it, but I think it's definitely underrated. The sequence towards the end where the Terminator is chasing John through the Skynet headquarters is really well-done, and harkened back to the horror tone of the first film in a way that I thought was super effective.

  • @SLiMmcl
    @SLiMmcl 5 лет назад +7

The reason why Skynet knows about that kind of stuff is because its a sequel to terminator 3. It's not a prequel to Terminator 1.
(This is kind of that strange middle ground where things are self fulfilling prophecies)
You even have a clip where John Connor is telling Marcus (Addressing him as if he was Skynet)
"You tried killing my mom, Sarah Connor"

I thought this was a good movie but my problem with it is it feels more like a mad max movie than a terminator movie. Like in the first 2 movies you see glimpses of the future that’s more dark with laser guns, like a cyberpunk aspect to it where this one it’s like desert landscape, more lit up like mad max or the book of Eli.

A lot of people whinged because they never had the plasma weapons you see in the futuristic battles in T2 -T3. If they had have been patient, you would have seen that in the following movies. The machines would have created them. Then the resistance would have stole the technology & beef up their weapons the same to keep up the fight. I really hope somebody continues this story on & finishes it they way it should be.

the best thing about Salvation was the portrayal of the T-800 endoskeleton in
the third act... very T1ish, menacing, practical, and very tough!
Everything else was a mess, pretty boring overall, including Bale's unconvincing and overacted peformance
    as adult John Connor.
Harvester Terminators, hydro terminators & moto terminators
    were kind of silly too.
Also had no emotion, no terminator theme, no arnold (not that you need him)
and no future war that matched Cameron's initial vision - it
wasn't nightmarish, people weren't starving and living in ruins and alleyways...
struggling to survive... a lot of daytime scenes too and familiar action from the previous 3 films...
Sam Worthington's character also didn't do anything for me.
I remember being disappointed after seeing it in the theaters.
I like Salvation better than T3 though since it tried something different.
I also like the extended trailer with that Nine-Inch Nails song more
    than the actual movie!

I always loved this movie, however, I do feel like Marcus could've been handled differently, because it doesn't make sense why Skynet wouldn't of just "activated" his terminator brain and killed kyle and john when he had the chance. They had so many chances of giving explanations but just chose not to. That's one thing this movie suffers from, character actions that make no sense. Like the terminators constantly throwing John. They could've easily changed the choreography so that John is always JUST out of reach, or manages to slip away at the last second as the terminators try and punch his heart or his head

In regards to how Skynet knows about Kyle Reese and their multiple failures to kill John Conner through time travel, the T-X in Terminator 3 could’ve uploaded all that information into Skynet while activating the machines as Skynet was becoming self-aware.

I still to this day want them to continue and finish the Salvation trilogy. We were robbed of that all of us patiently waited all those years finally get to the Future War only for them to reboot it

I don't like that it's PG-13. I think an R rating would have really benefited. :) I LOVE the look of the main terminators. They're so huge and menacing.

From what I remember, the Terminators don't actually terminate people in this one. They just kinda throw people around.

What’s up Cody Leach. I love the terminator movies. But my favorite movie of all time it is Freddy’s Dead The Final Nightmare.

It’s a pretty cool Terminator anthology movie, but It’s seems sometimes that it doesn’t know if it wants to be a Terminator movie or just a normal anthology. Another example is that they don’t know who the antagonist is. Is it John Conner? Is it Kyle Reese? Is it Sam Worthington? It has some good aspects, but it is very unfocused.

honestly I always WANTED the future story for Terminator and always wanted it to go to that part of the Timeline..
For me? My list is as follows..
    1). Terminator
    2). T2
    3). Salvation
    4). Genesys
    3). T3

side note: I think Skynet wanted John because they wanted to make an infiltrator unit in his likeness and I think Marcus was the hint and I really wish we got to see this trilogy.. because it was supposed to be a trilogy..

Here’s a problem with this movie. In 2018, how does Skynet know Kyle Reese will be a big threat? There was no record of him in 1984, so there’s no way it could know.

It's a paradox, without time travel john never gets born, and reese is needed to make john, and due to the events of the time travel part of the terminator is left behind so they know about reese in the long run.
It is not clear if the first terminator movie was the first time time travel happened, which logically it wasn't since john is created through time travel.

For those of you who would like a conclusion to Terminator Salvation try seeking out the comic book mini series "Terminator Salvation The Final Battle" written by J. Michael Straczynski (the creator of Babylon 5). It's actually really good and not only concludes Salvation but gives a conclusion to the whole Terminator saga!

I liked TS.... I rank my #3 in the franchise. T2 and T1 top spots. Its a fresh take. The effects were great. Acting great. Its the only one after the 3rd turd that doesnt give me a headache figuring out what the story is and how the characters got there.... Damn these have gotten soooooo convoluted with stories....

What I really liked with this movie is the ballistics vs terminators, in the more modern movies they're just bulletproof/ explosion proof.

So I also think this is a good Terminator film. My favorite is the original then T2 and then Salvation. No stupid humor, good effects, reasonable story, good actors, lots of action, intimidating enemy. basically everything that makes a Terminator movie good. It's a good idea to watch this movie first, then The Terminator, then T2. After that, you just have to forget that there are any more Terminator movies. Then you just have a good film trilogy.

I agree with you for the most part, Cody. My biggest issue with this movie, along with all the crap logic in the plot, is the importance of Sam Worthington's character. This should really be John Connor's story, but instead he shares the spotlight with this new character we're just meeting. We've just gotten through three movies where Connor either hasn't been born yet, or is a kid, or is a wimpy little hipster bitch... And I just wanted him to be center stage. But here, it almost feels like Worthington is the main character. Christian Bale finally gives us a great John Connor who is a badass, but then Marcus gets to do most of the cool, badass shit! I feel like Marcus should have been just a small side character, or not in the movie at all. Plus, the CGI on him at the end when he's all ripped up just looks silly. Worthington did a good job, and honestly, he would have been a good John Connor too, but I just didn't like the way they did it here...

I love this movie.. I agree the Kyle Reese plot thing … but here’s my thing , T2 has a logic flaw and thats the ending.. If both John and Sara were successful in preventing SYNET from creation then JOHN should have ceased to exist because SKYNET created the time machine not the human resistance.. no SKYNET means no time machine so KYLE REESE cannot go back in time .. so noJOHN CONNOR. The 3rd film attempted to rectify that be having the T800 explain that fact to John .

Totally agree that this is a strong #3 in the franchise. I really like this film. Totally agree the marketing smooched the pooch revealing too much about Worthington’s character.
