i took martial arts for a couple of years starting when i was 8. when i was 11 my mom got diagnosed with kidney disease and was put on dialysis twice a day. The dojo was 45 min away so needles to say that my martial arts career was over. i got to yellow belt in koro ken karate at Vermont Martial Arts Acadamy, Sensei Rick Marallo. He is still teaching to this day. I got to participate in one tournament and got a bronze metal, i still have the metal but lost the gee and belts. I got a job at 14 and martial arts was out the window. But i did get a heavy bag and a bob and every once in a while, i will practice my kicks and punches. I do miss it. I wanted to get back into it over the years, but I get concussions very easily, after a few injuries to the head so I'm afraid that if i do and get a bad enough concussion it could kill me.

Mario Lopez was a legit combat sports athlete. He won CIF (the CA state high school wrestling tournament); CA is largely known as one of the toughest state wrestling tournaments, because although it doesn't have the same tradition or reputation as say Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, etc., it only has a single state tournament (almost every other state has divisions based on school size, somewhat akin to DI, DII, DIII, etc. for college) and still has plenty of rural/farmboy areas where wrestling thrives (particularly Bakersfield), not to mention its gigantic population size.
