I recently bought a DiZhao 700 after comparing it to about 6 other flutes. I fell in love when I started playing it. The gold riser really adds that missing resistance and makes the sound perfect for me.

Oooo! Lovely. I’m very keen to try more!

I ended up with the 14k riser too. I tried with and without it. It was still top three of all the flutes I tried with the standard head, but, yes, your description of the riser captures my experience too. The roller on the D# key has changed my life.

👍 Back when I play tested the DiZhao line, the 700 series stood out as the better buy than the lower series in feel and tone for sure. Idk what they’re like these days..👨🏻

I have this model and absolutely ADORE it!

This video sealed the deal. I was trying several models and was ready to give up on the Di Zhao until I watched this and then tried again. It chose me and is superb for pro pit doubling.

Wow, very noticeable difference in tone! But then again, for the price difference the Dhi Zhao wasn’t bad at all.

Hi Tatjana, I also have tried this flute but I ended up with a Di Zhao 701. This is the one where the body is also in silber. I liked the sound in the 3rd register much better and the low notes were really full compared to the 501. I'm a restarter but even I could hear the difference. And I got it for a good price as well. So far I' m happy with the flute. My sound is much better with that flute.
I think the Di Zhao flutes should always be in the choice of flutes when you buy a new one.

Yes! Agreed they are lovely instruments. Would love to try the 700 series!

@@TheFlutePractice I really can recommend it. I made a big step with my tone coming from a 30 year old student flute which played over 20 years ago so it was not only me that my sound was not so good😀

I loooooove my Di Zhao 700.

Hi Tatiana, I’ve have a Muramatsu EX III for quite a while that I couldn’t bring myself to return, but I wasn’t totally happy with the headjoint. The tone was so pure, thick, and creamy, but articulation in the 3rd register was harder than it should have been, and the resistance also dampened low end resonance. I bought a used Powell philharmonic silver headjoint from Sherry Lee in Colorado, and that transformed the flute into exactly what I was looking for in the first place, so now that combo is my “5k” flute. I also have my old Sankyo Etude B, which has an NRS-1 headjoint; the shape of the lip plate is almost the same as the RS-1, but the chimney is slightly higher. The feature of this is that larger sound volume can be produced in the low register. That Sankyo flute model is discontinued and is now a model 201; I think the similar headjoint is rt-1 maybe, but I haven’t checked into it. Anyway, that Sankyo flute is really fantastic, but not a classical genre flute imho. I checked out the DiZhao line early on, maybe a decade ago, at a flute show, and I had to go up to the 700 series to approach being happy, lol, but there were other flutes in its price range that I would have preferred at the time. I was just window shopping, so to speak. I’m assuming from yor video that DiZhao upped their game. You may want to review Azumi. I heard some years back now that their AZ series is killer for the price. I haven’t been trying any new flutes for the past several years, so I can’t comment on that.

I have the NRS-1 on a 581 Yamaha and I'm so in love with that head joint. It's my everything. So effortless to play.

@@1015SaturdayNight Nice. I like the Yamaha flutes also. I got off the ground with the 200 series Yamaha all those years ago. I agree that the Sankyo NRS-1 headjoint is an easy one full range, and the lowest notes are rich. A little tricky on the highest notes, but a reasonably decent headjoint anyway.
      Thanks for your thoughts. 👨🏻

What makes a flute more or less resistant than another?
It amazes me the flutes I see marketed towards high school players. No one had open holes, French keys, B foot when I was in high school. Even in university, French keys, split E, and a B foot were not used by all students. I wonder if we would have enjoyed playing even more

Great question. I think it has a little to do with the material (mostly the head joint and riser), a lot to do with thinkness of the walls of the flute and something to do with the cut of the instrument, also specifically the head joint. Most of the sound comes from the head joint!

Okay so this has nothing to do with the actual video, but I figured why not ask? So, in a few hours I will be doing a performance (my first performance on the flute ever) and as a self taught flutist, it's tough to know if I need to think of anything or whatever. Any last minute tips or advice? 💕 Thanks!
