    I remember getting my current flute, an azumi 2! Omg I never knew how right you were about the flute choosing the flutist until I picked up this flute. I remember that the sound of the flute reminded me of the feeling you get when you're in the beach and there are giant waves that just carry you around peacefully, yet powerfully. This flute is perfect for me and is absolutely the best one I've ever played!

      +Hamed Akrami That's an amazing analogy!! Yes, it feels EXACTLY like that! I'm so glad you found it, and the flute found you!!

    I have played an Azumi for about a year now, and I absolutely love it! For a while, I was playing on a really bad, used flute that didn't match me at all, so when I got my Azumi, it was a huge step up! I am currently in high school, but I want to go into music education and I plan on keeping my flute through college. I love my flute, and am so grateful that I have a family who can afford such a quality instrument.

    I just purchased the Azumi 2, except mine has a rose gold-plated lip plate (it's the Roseus Edition). It's a joy to play! I started out on a £70 Amazon flute, which sincerely made me doubt my abilities. It took me weeks to get the low D out. I eventually managed to get down to C#, which was hit or miss, and was never able to play a low C. The Azumi, which has a B-foot, was effortless right down to a gorgeous, full low B. At the other end, I couldn't get past the high G (which took enormous effort) on the Amazon flute. On this baby, though,I can get all the way up to the very highest notes. It does take some effort past the high G, but it's so much easier than before. Dynamics can be played across the full range, from a very loud B to a very soft high G (which is as high as I need to play right now). The entire mechanism just makes you want to play, and allows you to play better. I went from 2 to 3 harmonics to 5 or 6 harmonics just by picking up a different flute. I can go on forever, but let me just tell any beginner (like I am), that this is an incredible instrument which will take your playing from OK to WOW in seconds.

    I have the Azumi 2, and it is great. I Iitterly overpower the flutes some times because you are able to put so much air into the Azumi if you know how to do it correctly. The Z cut headjoint is so much better than any other as well. It is so responsive and easy to play with. The off set G is also great especially for small hands. I highly recommend the Azumi 2. If you have any questions, ask me.

    Thanks for such a clear review. After trying the AZ-1, your comments reinforce some of the things that I thought. You gave me some really good pointers for how to work with the instrument too. I am planning to get one to replace my old, aging DeFord. The Azumi seems like a good instrument for a woodwind doubler. A forgiving head joint is really nice when you pick up the flute after having a saxophone or clarinet on your face for a half hour! It will be fun to see how the flute likes different microphones for live performance too!

    • @kennyfoster2837

      I just got the AZ-1! It works great right out of the box. I'm going to have lots of fun getting to know it and seeing how much it helps me improve my flute playing. I already LOVE the split E. For me, it is a huge thing! For my purposes, the cost / benefit equation was just about perfect. Most of my playing is the different saxophones. Flute is a double and a jazz / rock solo instrument. So much fun!

    I play an Azumi! It plays really well for me and it feels comfortable on my fingers. its a really great flute and inexpensive. My Azumi doesn't have the split E though. I've been playing on my Azumi for 2 years now. It's a really great flute!

    I have an Azumi flute! I think it might be the Azumi 1 because my dad said it was about 1200. I’ve been playing for 13 years (8 on the Azumi flute) and I’ve always wondered about the squared embouchure hole. I’ve compared it to other flutes and thought there was something wrong with mine! It makes sense why it was such an easy transition from the cheap eBay flute I originally had. I understand what you mean about the resistance in the keys. I always feel like I’m uneven in playing but it comes out even. Strange but a very nice feature

    Hi Joanna! Unfortunately I did not purchase my new flute through FCNY but I still wanted to write this comment to thank you. All your flute review videos and responses to the comments of others have been so incredibly helpful along my journey to my ultimately purchasing my Azumi AZ2!
    This video was actually the place I first heard of the Azumi. I live in a pretty small town in New Jersey so there’s not much near us aside from a music store which just so happened to special order the flute I was interested in for someone else who never came in for it. (Proof this was actually fate, am I right?😂)
    Anyway, I’ve played a student model Yamaha Advantage for the past five and a half years so learning a little bit about the playing style of this flute made things so much easier for me when I went to play test it for the first time. I found that while I loved my sound on the intermediate Yamaha because it was familiar to me and I really knew how to manipulate my tone on it, when I played the Azumi it just.... felt right. It was much more comfortable in my hands, the instrument responded so well despite me barely knowing how to REALLY play it yet, the sound was so rich and beautiful (especially in the lower register😭❤️) and I just absolutely loved everything about it!
    If you do happen see this I do actually have a quick question if you don’t mind. Well two actually! 1) What is the proper way to remove the open hole plugs so I don’t accidentally damage my brand new flute? and 2) Just out of curiosity, what is your stance on the debate over how to transition from playing an closed to open hole flute?🤔
    Again, thank you again so so much!!! It is because of you that I can look forward to playing this beautiful instrument in my high school wind ensemble come fall😁😁 (Sorry this was so long!)

    Hi Joanna I play an Azumi. I like it Really nice tone, but I find I get a lot of resistance. My heart is set on a Miyazawa. I'm also a fan of buying a flute a size too big, something I can grow into, so I can get more out of what I paid for it in time and study. I know when I'm getting prepared to upgrade when I start feeling frustrated with my current instrument.
    I love the Wand analogy and find it to be true. But I'm a Hufflepuff, so boo. ;-) Love your videos as always!

    I've heard great things about Azumi flutes. Another brand that has a "baby" brand (that's what I call the intermediate flutes that are affiliated with the professional brands) is Haynes with their Amadeus flutes. I've tried all three of these headjoints and I wasn't a fan of the Z cut. My Altus has a V Cut headjoint. I like that these flutes have a clear sound😃❤️😊🎼🎹

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  7 лет назад +1

      +Kiara Eijo Hehe! I think the V-cut fits me a bit better than the Z-cut too, but I definitely can see why the Z-cut is the best choice for this type of flute. Speaks easily, clearly, and tends not to sound fuzzy. Pretty perfect for intermediate flutists. 😊

    • @KarinaEijo
      @KarinaEijo 7 лет назад

      Kiara Eijo Kind of ironic that we ended up playing the flutes that we play😘. I like the V cut for you but the Z cut worked best for me when I tried all the Altus flutes when Altus visited for the Wibb class. As you know, I'm still quite surprised that the Powell Signature spoke to me the way it did. I never expected to play such a monster of an instrument!

    Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't closing toneholes lengthen the tube? So using the gizmo to close the B tonehole would effectively be making the flute longer. This would make sense since the top C sounds better on a flute with a B foot (when using the gizmo) than a flute with just a C foot. If closing the B tonehole "shortens" the tube, "making it more like a C foot" then it shouldn't make any difference to a C foot.

    hey I'm looking for a flute to take to college as a music major and was wondering if you had any suggestions. when i play, the air is sort of like an obtuse angle when i play the lower and upper octave. for example when i play in the upper register the air shoots to the roof of my mouth then shoots back down. when i play the lower register the air shoots to the bottom of my mouth and then shoots back out. Then when i play in the middle register it just goes straight.

    Hello Joanna, What do you think about Azumi by Altus for Flutists who are going and coming from Music School? Do you think this brand is of a high enough level to get into music school with or would you need an Altus? And the same for coming out of Music School. Would this brand be suitable enough for doing a master's degree on or even looking for work on, or would you have HAD to have bought an Altus by then?

    You play beautifully ~ this fingering difference is totally fine for you as shown by your chromatic scale.
    You have a well educated R first finger ~ Side Bb, B-C# trill, and Trill #1.

One specific question I have is are there any techniques that could help to strengthen the muscles around your mouth? Or does that naturally happen with practice? Also are there techniques that could help improve the sound quality for someone with small holes in their palate. Thanks, I know this is probably a difficult question for a fairly unique situation. P.S. Your videos are very helpful; I appreciate your honesty. :)

    I have a professional Haynes flute with a William Bennett cut. Is that similar to the square cut on these flutes?

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  7 лет назад

      +Sharon Gygi You'll notice that William Bennett has a close relationship with Altus, as the Azumis here use the "Altus-Bennett" scale. I think that has more to do with the tuning of the notes, not so much with the cut of the headjoint, so I'm not sure how similar it would be to the Z-cut. Would be fun to compare!

      JustAnotherFlutist I do crack on the E sometimes, but I've learned how to fix it and personally, I don't like the extra rod the split E puts on the right hand. I found the C# trill key to be a better investment even if it makes the flute a little heavy.

    My Azumi is a “AZ-Z3RBEO”... is that the same as one of these flutes?

    • @fallenwarrior3946
      @fallenwarrior3946 3 года назад

      Yes, you have the azumi 1. The azumi 2 is AZ-Z3RBO and the azumi 1 is AZ-Z3RBEO

    But, you don't mention intonation. How do these perform against a tuner?

      All flutes would be different. It all depends on how much control you have on intonation.

    If I may give you a tip. Use more air because now you have a pretty wobbly tone. Otherwise it sounds good though!

    Could you please do a review on a Slade flute which has these features: - Closed hole -Nickel Flute -Without Split E Mechanism
    -No Gizmos -Offset G
    I have a flute like this from India, but I just don't really understand how it works and my low c wont come out at all! Also awesome review i am loving it!

      My flute is somewhat like that, a simple beginner model and I had trouble with the low C for a looooong time, I've even watched a lot of videos on youtube regarding how to get the low notes right.
      What I've found that works for me is to push more air the lower the notes get, specially with the low C, and open up the inside of my mouth more, like, kind of widening the back of the throat and that soft part on the roof of my mouth.
      I hope this can help you, it's a very tricky thing indeed. Good luck with it :)
