    Since I started uni I’m now so much more appreciative of your diagrams. I have to do the same thing for uni, but I have to depict where the tongue is for every single sound your mouth can make in the English and Italian language. That is soooo hard! And you’re doing a good job with your diagrams and descriptions.
    The flutes sound beautiful as usual!!

    I am in Canada and I've been following your reviews for several months. I _just_ purchased the 680 from being able to play it at my local music store, and it was the most affordable of the int. flutes with the specs I preferred. I was able to buy one of the "Long and McQuade 60th anniversary edition" flutes (limited edition, only sixty made in 2016), and I bought the last one our store had. It's engraved in the lip plate and the end cap, and is so beautiful.! After trying many different flutes I am delighted I got this one.

    Your videos are so great and helpful. Thank you for that. From your perspective, which would you choose between the Sonare 501 and the Amadeus 680? I saw both your videos on these ones trying to decide :)

    So I know you aren’t talking about piccolos in this video but I figured I should ask. In about 2-3 weeks I’m getting a piccolo and I feel like I really want to get the Paititi Gold Plated Piccolo because people are saying it is really good for tone quality and also it is good for beginners and intermediate players. People also say it looks very nice. I would like to see people’s opinions. Thanks!!! 😄😄

    Howdy. Have you ever tried one of the lefreque things or have you thought about doing that sort of review... for those of us that can't afford/justify spending a ton of money on a new flute, but would like to upgrade the sound of current flute?

  • @stareis
    @stareis 6 лет назад +1

    Really random question for you Joanna! When you’re working your way up the range of the instrument, what notes are you hitting up at the top? It sounds like your tone goes from really clear to more airy at the top 1 or 2, as mine does... but I hit that point at the C7, despite having played for a looooong time and it seems like you’re blowing past that. Just curious!

    So you've done all those wonderful flute reviews and I have finally money to buy one... but out of all of those flutes, how do I know which one is right for me?

  • @AsianBassoonPerson

    JOANNA HI, I didn't watch the whole video but I come to you for tips. Okay so I sold my bassoon after college( I still have the one I "stole" from school bwhaha) and I decided to pick up my flute again and I've been feeling a stronger connection to it, I only did bassoon for scholarship. If i decided to get a flute around $1000, would lower notes become easier to play? I've developed a better tone with my lower notes, but I believe if I got a new flute, it would become easier. What do you think?

  • @jcortese3300

    I have no idea if the FCNY even sells historical flutes because those are their own universe. We don't talk Brannen or Gemeinhardt, but Hamilton, Copley, Olwell, etc. (or Palanca, Stanesby, and Grenser for the Baroque ones). I would seriously love to see you noodle around on a Baroque or 19th century Romantic flute just to see what you thought of it or how you would describe the embouchure technique relative to a Boehm system flute.
    I ask only because I remember having a little flute exchange with a lovely woman at work who plays a regular Boehm flute, and I brought in my 19th century Copley (and Cronnolly keyless). Neither of us could even get a sound out of one another's instruments. I mean, I expected it to feel strange, especially since I was holding her flute on the "wrong side" for me; my Copley is a lefty. (It's not considered a bad thing in the Irish flute world, which is how most people find their way to 19th century flutes nowdays.) On her side with my Cronnolly, she could hold it on her right side as usual, but having to cover actual holes with no compensating keywork to make the reach easier was incredibly hard for her.
    I expected us to find it odd to negotiate with one another's flutes, but for neither of us to even get a peep out was shocking to me. Have you ever tried historical flutes? If so, what did you think? Would you consider trying one in a video and describing your experience?

    What is the best intermediates flute you have ever played? Which brand and model? I think it will be great if you compare 4 to 5 intermediate flutes in similar price range and review them.

  • @michaelhung2990
    @michaelhung2990 6 лет назад +2

    Hi Joanna! Do you think the big difference of all flutes is more of the sound quality and tone, or more on the personal feel of how you play it? I’ve watched your review videos and honestly, I can’t really tell the difference of the flute’s sound unless you tell us😅. So does the contributing factor of buying a specific flute model come down to the way you play it? And how do you know when you’ve chosen THE flute fit for you?

    • @kiaraeijo
      @kiaraeijo 6 лет назад

      Michael Hung You have to choose what works for you.. One flute may sound good for you but it may not work for someone else. For example, I play on an Altus and my sister plays on a Powell... Her Powell does not work for me ( I sound stuffy on her flute) and my Altus does not work for her.😊

    Our marching band has had a dramatic increase of flutes join this year. Since it is my third year I will be expected to be role model for the rest of the section(especially since I made all state) do have any tips/video, I want to be able to teach and contribute this year to my section. Also, do Lefreques work? I have seen people use them at all state auditions. Thanks!

      When teaching younger flutists it is reccomended that they use a flute with a split e mechanism and off set g. If you see them strugglong with the size of the flute use a curved head joint if too small

      I just wanted help to teach because I was told to help teach show music for marching band during random times and now I have to even more but I'm socially awkward and insecure so it's kind of hard to project to 17 flutists lol but they are great marchers!

    Hi Joanna I know this is a five year old video but in your “San Francisco International Flute Festival” video did that lady say that the Flute you were playing at 6:00 was a powell - grenadilla wooden body and headjoint with STRAWBERRY PADS IN IT. If so I want that exact Flute. Does that mean the pads are strawberry scented? Trevor Wye could probably make something like this.

    • @michaelnguyenflute
      @michaelnguyenflute 6 лет назад +3

      Straubinger pads? 😂

      @Denise-tg2ok 6 лет назад +2

      What.?.?.? So you mean no Strawberry??? I'm not gonna get my Strawberry scented Flute pads. Oh Pooh. My imagination went wild this time, and I'm an actual Flutist. Maybe I should stop reading the Trevor Wye Method Books so much from now on.

    You have a bright sound on these flutes. I’ve heard great things about these flutes. As for the hand pain, I would suggest soaking hands with warm water and epsom salt.😃❤️🎼
