I love this flute! A few years ago I bought a pre-loved 700 with offset G, Split E, C# Trill, and D rollers. I’m an adult enthusiast and it speaks so easily on every note for me. Great choice for many players who want a step-up flute before going hand made. Great choice for review and Flute World is the best!
Thanks for your excellent review and demonstration. I am curious as to whether you were playing on the 801 with the 14k gold riser option. I have a student looking to upgrade, and wonder if it is worth the additional expense to upgrade to the gold riser.
I think it may have been a silver riser, although I am not certain. However, I have had many students get the 801. I really do like the gold riser and, generally speaking, it is not a crazy expensive upgrade.
I own a DZ700 that I bought around 10 years ago. I liked it, but when I bought, the C# trill, roller, and riser upgrades weren’t an option, so I got an Azumi with those options, but it is a decent flute. I have it on consignment currently.
@@LanceSuzuki it’s an outstanding flute. I need to correct my statement. My Azumi doesn’t have a roller or gold riser, but it does have the split e and C# trill. I still like it more than I did my DZ700, though I’m VERY much interested in the Di Zhao handmade flutes.
I am very interested in a Di Zhao 801! It has always bothered me that one could spend over 4K on a flute and still not get solid silver body and foot as well as head joint. I got my Gemeinhardt M3S for $900 back in 1976 and it was all silver tubing. I loved it for many years until it was stolen in 2021. Looking to replace it and thinking seriously about the DZ 801! I do have a question for you Lance, do you recommend a split E mechanism? That simply wasn’t even a thing when I got my Gemeinhardt and now it has me confused?? Thanks! Love your videos and your playing!!
Thanks so much, Robert! I highly recommend DZ 801 which is one of the best values on the market. Also, Split-E is highly recommended. It just makes life easier when you don’t have to stress about your high E’s!
For me, switching from inline to offset was challenging. However, I chose offset specifically for the resale value. Most people in US prefer offset. 🤷🏻♂️
Best review video out there. Your format is the best. Hope you can do more.

Thanks, Kimberly! I love this flute as well. Such a fantastic step-up option! Glad you are loving yours!
Love the sound.
Me too! This flute is awesome!
Nice vídeo !❤😉👍🏽🇧🇷🎵🎶🎵

Great! Glad you are loving the Azumi! That is definitely on my "want to try" list.

I LOVE the Di Zhao line!

Thanks so much Lance! If I can ask one more question, do you play, or recommend an open hole flute?
Definitely go with open holed. Your options will be greater and you can always plug some (or all) of the holes if necessary.
Thanks gain Lance! I played an open holed, inline G since the 70’s, so I will stay with open hole. I am thinking about an offset G this time though.

Sounds very responsive and sweet.
Yes, it is a very responsive flute with great tone. Thanks for watching!
My middle school child plays on a Di Zhao 200. Perhaps one day she will upgrade to the 801.

200 is a fantastic beginner flute. I think the 801 is great upgrade for HS students.

sounds much more better than d601
601 is still a great flute, but I agree that this has a richer and beefier sound! Hard to beat solid silver!
