The SG1 human ships are among my favorite of all time. Love their gritty, naval-inspired aesthetic and griebeling.
These ships are very aesthetically pleasing.
Sometimes, when I rewatch old clips, Stargate seems like a relatively forgettable but fun show that I just happened to be fond of. But then I think of stuff like this. How tech like the Prometheus advanced humanity in the eyes of the galactic community, and how so many different episodes would contribute to our appreciation of the ship. That episode broke my heart. It felt like a part of human history had been lost.
I think the franchise's greatest achievement was making traditionally far-fetched sci-fi concepts feel grounded and real.
RIP Pendergast, I'll never forget that episode.
If the stargate book serie continue (I don't know if they have fully switched to Atlantis) we need news BC 304 among these : the"Pendergast".
:D
Lionel Pendergast is, to date, the greatest name I've ever heard of.
i just (re)watched this and immediately named a M2 class Destroyer in X3:AP after him.
Did the voice on this keep calling him 'Pentergast', with a 't'?
"Sir, we can't call it the Enterprise." - Samantha Carter.
But it would have been nice for our actual USA-Empire
Maybe thats why ... US-Navy can only have one ship with this name ... in the "StarGate" Secret-Space-Prpgram ( TR3B , USSS Hillenkoetter etc. ) runs under the Navy
I thought SG1 was Airforce?
+Scattergunsniper -
YES , SG1 is Airforce in the series ... in reality its (space-) Navy
Rax Savvage that will be the 8th ship named enterprise, with the lineage starting during the revolutionary war, and the 7th Enterprise being the first Nuclear Powered aircraft carrier, fighting in Vietnam and assisting during the Cuban Missile crisis. Gene Roddenberry knew how important the enterprise lineage was and that's how he got the name.
The Daedalus was originally supposed to be Prometheus’s sister ship. There were significant modifications to the design. The Daedalus was bigger, for one. It’s only later that the Daedalus was split off into its own class, taking it as a baseline.
-Sir, we can't call it the Enterprise
-Why Not?
Because with spacecrafts it's a jinxed name!
How many Enterprises in star trek were destroyed!
Thanks for doing the Prometheus. Although the Daedalus and others have replaced it, I always had a soft spot for the Prometheus because in Stargate it was Earth's first attempt at making a large spaceship based on reverse engineered alien technology. I enjoyed the episode where it first took off and was saddened to see it blown up in a later episode.
That is what I love about the Stargate series. You see them go from these space newbies who don't know what they hell they're up against, to competing with the best intergalactic species out there throughout the run of the shows. :'D It's great~
IMO, Prometheus was also prettier than the later Daedalus class.
Jeff Anderson uh I hate to say most would disagree with you on that one.
@@jeffanderson8165 I disagree, but it still looks dang good.
I absolutely loved the slow crawl and hum of the engines. The only other ship, that gave me the chills was the one from Stargate Universe, the blue alien one, specifically the scene where they run away after powering their "star drive". SG had some top talent ship designers and top writer talent. It's a shame and a pity the studio couldn't manage the financial aspect better. Old geizers with no imagination (McKay's actor touches a lot on it whenever the subject rises in his podcasts. How MGM couldn't even be able to make the most basic merch for people to buy, like a basic coffee cup... shame.).
Say what you want about it’s appearance, to me- This ship is a beautiful example of humanity’s hard work.
I swear, naming a spaceship "Prometheus" is like casting Sean Bean as a character, they're just doomed. :P
+Spacedock Name still better than "Icarus"
+sw gs I guess the difference between the two is that Icarus already had those connotations, where Prometheus really just gained it thanks to science fiction
Prometheus is actually a great name for this specific ship. Much like the original tale about Prometheus, where he stole fire from the gods, they built this ship using salvaged tech from a race of advanced aliens.
+Spacedock you should do a Spacedock episode on the justice class cruiser
(it is from the star wars expanded universe)
Is there really a season 9 for SG1 coming?
The Prometheus really looked and felt like humanity’s first attempt at a bona fide starship. Great design!
+1 for the Supreme Commander music
I was looking for a comment like this!
most definitely
I'm glad that a comment like that is already written.
I wonder how "civil" the conversation between Navy and Air Force heads over which service gets to be the owner of this ship went. I've read about how Curtis LeMat had a fit when he found out that the CIA had an airplane, so I'm guessing this might have gone something similar.
Prolly neither since the SG program was in a completely different frame of reference than the other programs. I mean, even the SG Command, it was in a base, but it was completely separated as a power structure from the rest. There's a trivia bit (which, i'm sorry, i don't remember where i got it from, but i remember it being a sourced one, so maybe a commentary track) that said that Hammond was over the mountain's power structure, what he said, went. YET, if he fell, nobody else had command structure from above, and would require someone else, from the outside to take his place.
In a normal situation, if a commander falls, or is unable to lead, the most immediate next power element is ready to take their place.
In that episode with the black hole, it's pretty evident, as they have outsiders flown in, rather than mountain command taking over OR, even sending people down.
This show is very well thought out and there's a lot of background stuff that was required to make it so.
The thing that I love most about Stargate is that the roots of this spaceship were laid well before the ship made its debut. They put snippets of information to the progression of technology, unlike others who were like 'Bam' here is a big honking ship when the plot requires,
This is a unique situation where the television series has a endless journey
God I miss this ship I choked up when she went down
Same here :(, i felt like i lost a family member or something
@@GeneralCondom now you know why Sailors refer to their ships as a Lady.
All we can tell is, "Thank you for your service."
Technically the X-302 had the first human built hyperdrive. It wasn't practical due to the instability of naquadriah...but it did technically work.
Don Skiver ehh, if an engine went to 23000RPM then detonated we wouldn’t say it worked :p
It wasn't capable of interstellar travel, so it doesn't really count.
@@esoopthederp7672 the GATE blew it up, not the hyperdrive, remember the 302 was the human built glider they used to get rid of the gate that was gonna blow up, we only know the Naquadriah reactor of the 303 was unstable, we never saw another 302 attempt hyperspace travel
@@esoopthederp7672 just limit it to 22000
It would have been nice to see prometheus and a 304 on screen together at least once
at the very beginning it the quote from Cam Mitchell his rank said major it was in fact that in Avalon part 1 in a flashback scene it showed that he was a Lt. Col right before the battle of Antarctica
Really enjoyed that, I imagine this channel will easily rise in popularity and I can say I was here from the beginning, while I have a LOT of favourite sci-fi programs and spaceships, I would really enjoy a ship featured from the Freespace games, if possible.
The most notable ones that came to mind being the Apollo fighter, GTD Galatea, SD Lucifer, GTVA Colossus and the SJ Sathanas (all 100+ of them, or so).
Looking forward to the next episode, regardless of what it is.
The UNSC Pillar of Autmun or the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn would be awesome!!
Cool as the Daedalus was, I always preferred the angular look of the Prometheus.
Imagine the Stargate project being ousted in public?. Instead of primitive feudal nature of the Goa'uld manufacturing method. Its Earth advance mass production system. We be building them like Model-Ts. To completely overwhelm all the Goa'uld fleets.
Darius Tiapula I'd love to see that!!!!
Hardly.
Not really tough because earth dosent have any inate Naquadah or Trinium sources.
@@karlfranzemperorofmandefil5547 While this is true, the SGC was able to source these materials from other planets, but extracting the resources is inherently limited if you're doing it in-house and keeping everything under wraps. If the project became public, you could outsource those mining projects to corporations and exploit their economies of scale.
The Goa'uld had thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of Ha'tak ships. Just as importantly, those ships cost a *lot.* There's no way they're being mass-produced by one planet in secret.
YES I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
Obviously now you need the BC-304 USA DAEDALUS to complete the set.
+Scratch vk I think he needs just do BC-304, and talk about Daedalus, Apollo, the Sun Tzu, whatever the Russian one was called (Korolev?) and the George Hammond (Originally Phoenix).
+ShadowSt100 We'll we can get the basic class done then talk about the individual ship achievements.
+Scratch vk Might not be a bad idea. Korolev - Destroyed so the Daedalus could live :-P. I don't think the Sun Tzu was ever actually featured, I think it was mentioned in Universe once as the Chinese ship.
+ShadowSt100 Yeah, but we still have the others.
+ShadowSt100
The Sun Tzu was severely damaged in the battle against the Superhive during the Atlantis finale, along with the Apollo. It was offscreen, but yeah.
You should do some shops from The Expanse, starting with the Rocinante. It's definitely one of the coolest and most realistic ships in sci-fi. Not to mention badass!
The most fantastical thing about SG-1 was the fact that the Air Force would voluntarily build and staff something that big and relatively ponderous. They're so desperate to stop using the A-10 and phase out other ground attack aircraft for the "fast and pointy" air superiority fighters, I sincerely doubt they'd accept something that couldn't pop up to mach 2 immediately after doing an Immelmann. ;p
I, and some of my friends, always thought that it would have made much more sense for the Navy to build and operate all SG Command's starships. They're already accustomed to working with large crews and tactics wise it's not that much different from a submarine, just without the benefit of depth and things like thermoclines to hide in, but the basics of operating in a hostile 3 dimensional environment still apply.
This.
When we have a space fleet it will be the Navy. Not the air force. Or they'll be some amalgamation of the two.
Yes but as far as i remember the Air Force operated these Ships because of the secrecy. Having one branch of the military in charge already lead to multiple leaks to the press (even though they could be covered up) having a second one would MASSIVELY increase the amount of staff and therefore the risk.
Not to mention that Space currently, in the real world, falls under the Air Forces' domain. It is literally part of their mission statement.
Yeah in a lot of scifi works like Halo and The Expanse, it tends to be the Navy that operates space warships. However, it's also true that today the Air Force is in charge of space operations. It's hard to say what will really happen in the future, but eventually one of those branches of military will become obsolete and absorbed into the other one. Now to answer the OP's statement, I think the Air Force today would be more than happy to use a large space frigate for air superiority and ground attack. The Prometheus itself is vastly superior to A10's and any other aircraft in existence today. Literally just hovering over enemy territory would be enough to win, but if engagement is a must, then I'm sure the numerous missiles and railguns on the Prometheus would be more than enough to totally replace and be more effective than a bunch of A10's. Not to mention the shields on the Promethus would make it impervious to all ground and air fire. Not to mention I'm pretty sure the Prometheus sublight engines are farrrr faster than an A10 at max burn.
Yes I have a few suggestions for you. First is Fireball XL5 from Fireball XL5
Well we got the Prometheus, how bout the Daedalus class?
That was indeed a sad moment when the Prometheus was destroyed
The Prometheus's rail guns were designed by the asgard as well. This is stated in the episode thor showed up at stargate command when senator Kinsey, and other world leaders were there. Thor said that in thanks for sg1s help, the asgard were beaming aboard to fit new asgard designed weapons and systems. Normal rail guns that would be designed by us could do any real damage to the shields of a hatak vessel. They would most lickley be using a specially designed round among other things.
Can we see a review of the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter? Keep up the videos man! I can tell this channel is gonna get real big real quick!
Love your videos, you need to more of them
please?
When will you make a video about the Deadalus?
I loved the shape of this ship although I'd love it to have been bigger. It was kinda Asgard looking and I wish after they created the deadalus class we used the smaller Prometheus class and bult a fleet and have them accompany more powerful ships and use them as battleships or defence for planets. With Asgard tech including the beam weapon they could have been pretty powerful
Just found your channel and love it. Have you ever seen Space Above and Beyond? Very ambitious series for when it was made with some very cool ships.
Gilambesh
Yeah, the Hammerhead was cool!
"The code name for the project is Prometheus. What's wrong with that?"
"It's a Greek tragedy, who want's that?"
"Okay, the X-303 it is than"
"...yeah"
-Samantha Carter/Jack O'Neill
can you do one on the daedelus or the apollo ?
I love the 304, but they should have continued with this class as well. Weapons and hyperdrive design on the 304 could be tweaked for the x303s.
I never understood why they didn't build as many sub-light ships as possible. I mean, I get why from a writing standpoint, but presumably they could build sub-light drives much easier and faster than FTL drives, and it'd be better than waiting for the Asgard to gift a new hyperdrive.
Sub-light ships would be very beneficial, even with no FTL. Think about it. Defending Earth doesn't require FTL. Hell, it arguably doesn't require any propulsions systems at all. But the drive can lift large payloads into Earth orbit and can go at high fractions of the speed of light. This would allow massive battlestations to be placed into orbit around Earth, and allow large fleets of sub-light warships defending Earth. With massive battlestations and a big fleet, defense would be well handled. Plus, if they got NASA in on it, they could mount manned mission to any place in the solar system. FTL drives would be needed for anything beyond the solar system, but not defending the solar system.
Loved this ship.
while i'm a big fan of all stargate ships, i'm sure that when mankind does begin pushing out into space we'll probably build ships closer to those of battlestar galactica.
Aww I kinda came here thinking it would be the ship that is the arm of the SDF-1 from Macross/Robotech.
I was actually quite sad when Prometheus was broken. Like, that ship had its shakedown cruise being stolen, and then went on to serve for years, finally being taken out by one Ori satellite.
It did pave the way for the Daedalus, and it was one ugly mother... But, it was still cool. Especially when the Asgard said "here you go", and buffed it up considerably.
Just a question - are the tauri human? I've haven't got a round to watching the show yet but I'm interested about that
The Tau'ri are specifically humans from Earth, so us. For various reasons there are different factions of humans all over the Milky Way in Stargate. It's an amazing franchise tho, hope you enjoy it. :D
Thanks! That makes sense. I assume the Asgard and the... Go'ul Are human too?
Nah, the Asgard are an entirely seperate race and the Goa'uld are alien parasites that use human hosts (among other races) but I won't rob you of the chance to find out the details for yourself :D
ah thanks. I'll start watching but it's over 10 seasons!
It's 10 seasons long, but you'll wish it was longer. Once you finish SG1, you can watch SG Atlantis. That's 5 more seasons. Then SG Universe, which was sadly only 2 seasons. So, all told, 17 seasons of SG goodness.
Can we see one on the JMC mining ship Red Dwarf? Also Starbug?
another awesome video. Miss the old intro though.
+KingreX32 Yeah sorry about that, some company bought the rights to the old music making it no longer royalty-free so I decided to revamp the whole intro just to be safe. Good chance the company would never have noticed but you know, better safe than sorry. :)
Thanks for watching.
no problem. Keep up the good work. Youve inspired me to start writing my Starship lists again.
+Spacedock you know with how good your videos are, they would have noticed
I still wonder why it was an air force vessel when it operated like a naval vessel. I mean, I KNOW it's because the AF was tasked with the SG project and plot-wise I guess they couldn't have AF & navy mixed (since the USAF was heavily involved with the show), but really if you have a naval style vessel, it should be run by the navy since the naval command structure suits the running of a spaceSHIP better... The closest and largest the AF ever comes to a large vessel (in the air) would be a bomber or a cargolifter. It was interesting nonetheless...
it looks like a cross between a Nebulon-B frigate and an Imperial class star destroyer
Could you do the Intrepid-class USS Voyager from Star Trek next?
Huh, it originally used a repurposed Alkesh hyperdrive? I thought they avoided using Gua'uld parts after the X-301 incident. They even had to emphasize that the X-302 was 100% made on Earth because of it.
Battlesheep bullshit , there had to be Alien tech In it , Inertia Dampners had to be Alien technology and the Artificial gravity too
I think the point was it was all "human built"(reversed engineered).
I think that the issue with the 301 was the wholesale (2×deathglider) parts repurposing that probably included the avionics systems, as a direct lift, which meant the recall device was still present.
I don't think that an al'kesh engine system would ever need one, just mostly a power-controller to stop engine overloads damaging/blowing-up the ship.
(although there would maybe similarly be one on the Al'kesh flight systems too!)
The Prometheus had 3 hyperdrives over the course of it’s lifespan.
The Naquadriah one (that exploded on it’s shakedown cruise-after they ejected it of course)
The repurposed Alkesh one (that they used to get the ship home, though had to keep dropping out of subspace because it wasn’t designed for such a big ship)
And finally the Asgard one (i.e the one that actually was good)
The Prometheus served well and it earned it's rest.
do more stargate please
They should have made a few more of these to compliment the 304 and could have used the 303 as a anti fighter cruiser/support carrier
When do you plan on doing a video on the 304s?
Some mention should be made of the Prometheus' original experimental hyperdrive system, powered by naquadria. The potential energy yield of even small quantities of naquadria seemed to make it feasible to build a goauld-style hyperdrive into a much smaller space. However, the warnings of Langaaran scientist Jonas Quinn, that "The instability of the naquadria increases exponentially the longer you continue to extract energy from it," continued to fall upon deaf ears among terrestrial shipwrights, leading to the unfortunate self-detonation of the Prometheus' naquadria power core in the middle of the ship's proving flight, stranding it halfway across the galaxy until engineers from Earth could travel to its location by Stargate to install a salvaged alkesh hyperdrive as a replacement.
The sliding instability of naquadria thus demonstrated that any system with a sustained power output was inherently incapable of being naquadria-powered, such as shields, engines, sensors, or projected energy weapons of the conventional sort. Naquadria fell into near-total disuse by Earth, save for its original Langaaran application as a weapon of mass destruction.
Ironically, it was the half-ascended Goauld system lord, Anubis, who figured out the first practical application of naquadria in a device not designed to explode. The tri-barreled wrist-mounted pulse blasters of his infamous Kull Warriors, which functioned in the manner of a staff blaster but in rapid storms of tiny fireballs rather than one big one, in which each barrel was essentially a microminiaturized staff powered by a sand-grain of naquadria. Each barrel would charge up, release a blast, then cool down and rest while each of the other two barrels fired in its turn, providing an enormous amount of offensive firepower without ever drawing upon any single naquadria grain long enough for its instability to become unmanageable.
Had a naquadria hyperdrive been made following this philosophy, it would have made it possible for a small capital ship to navigate the heavens in a continuous series of 1-second long, 3 million-mile hops, tracing a dotted line across the galaxy. It would likely have been dubbed "The hopperdrive," just to nail down the point.
please do a video about the Atlantis
I hear Supreme Commander music playing in the background
Could you make video about BC-304 and about any System alience ship not the first Normandy
They should have made more of the Prometheus class and use them as either a battleship style class or aircraft carrier and kept the Daedalus class as a more faster and more maneuverable Destroyer class in all honesty the Prometheus class look like it had more teeth to it versus the Daedalus I'd like to imagine the Prometheus with the most up-to-date Asgard weapons and ancient weapons and Shields and Power Systems now that would be a ship to be reckoned with
It was much more visually pleasing and they should have created a larger version after the Prometheus was destroyed. It was very much like a simplistic Asgard ship visually
Damn I need to re-watch SG-1
ah... the good old days of SG 1
is sad but true, is also sad Universe and Atlantis ended quite fast
You did a video on the Normandy SR-2, but would you consider reviewing video game spacecraft from older game series like Wing Commander?
+Rycel2001 Wing Commander and similar games are certainly on the cards for future episodes :)
+Spacedock TCS Tiger's Claw would be awesome. That or the Concordia.
Can you talk about the Covenant's CSO Class supercarrier for the next episode? Its an insanely huge ship, around 28,000 meters long
You should do a video on the mass effect reapers mainly harbinger
The scale while canon from what was written about it. There are good videos explaining how the ship would have had to have a much larger scale and actually would be over 500m long in order for it to actually accommodate the fighter compliment and human complement. The canon scale seems to be just someone making up numbers without consideration for the scale needed.
You should do the Daniel Jackson :P
I like that this ship showed a real technology curve. Most alien race hilariously outclassed it and thought it was "A heap of Junk"
@IJN Yamato they knew earth had those tough. Also the Genii canonically Controll a Ancient Cruiser (a smaller and weaker version of the Aurora class ) they are working on to get it flying again.
@IJN Yamato the answer to that is take out entire wraith fleets and threaten BC304s + become pretty much the rulers of the Pegasus coalition.
@IJN Yamato the ship was mostly functional. The reason they can't use it Is because their ATA gene workaround is terrible.
Ships from Tachyon the Fringe, a game voicing Bruce Campbell
Good thing you gave that spoiler alert...
I loved stargate but hated the railguns use on the starships. Nothing wrong with a kinetic style weapon but if you miss, the chance for friendly fire is huge. I loved when we got spacecraft though. It was a huge jump in the series and let us have some great space fight scenes.
I still say even years after the series has ended the Prometheus did not get its placeas I look at the Prometheus next to the new daedalus-class the Prometheus just screams frigate while the deadliest class would serve as a good destroyer or possibly cruiser class it would have been incredible to see a daedalus-class with 3 or 4 escorting Prometheus class going up against a wraith Hive ship and escorts or gaould hattak or even replicator copied lantian ships
Would be funny if they meet Goauld or an alien named Prometheus with this ship.
should talk about the x-304 and also Destiny and Atlantis
you done the USAF Prometheus are you going to do a video on the Daedalus class ships
the Tigers Claw from Wing Commander
Make a video about the usaf Daedalus x-304
Like to see how the 304 would hold up against star trek villains. They have them beat on speed and sensors but how are they on weapons and shields
I just discovered your channel and love it if know stargate is long gone now but as a fan of the franchise I would like to request that you do ancients starship Destiny from stargate Universe even though we never got to see the entire ship because the show was cancelled too early would be cool to see you do what you do for the Destiny
How did the Ori ground protectorate’s weapons penetrate the Asgard shields again?
It might be hard to find information sources, but you should do the Destiny from Stargate: Universe :D
Gonna do an episode on the BC-304?
Do a review of the Didact's flagship, The Mantle's Approach.
can we get some farscape up in here, I would love to see you do an episode for both moya and talon.
That explains the massive layoffs at " we can get to Mars in 6 months...NASA".
+Spacedock, can you do Star Trek's Spacedock (earth)?
MjolnirOmega
Starbase-74 is a similar design but much bigger!
Did the tauri ever get their hands on a aurora class battleship?
Do one on the Ori warship
Is there a video on the Deadalus class?
chbailey081 there is a video now
I thought its Hull code is X-303 Not BC-303
X-something is used for test aircraft. For example, F-22 used to be X-22 when it was being constructed. And only after it is tested, put into use and production, it gets renamed to F-something (in this case BC-something, because it was battlecruiser). If you remember, F-302 was also called X-302 in the first few episodes where it appeared.
Ohhh, yea. Thanks.
Can you please do a video on the Donnager aka the most badass ship in the solar system.
Why are you calling it the BC 303!? It was always called the X303 and has that written on the ship hull!
Supreme Commander music XD
spoilers for a show that old is a funny thing to hear.
Well, to be fair, some people watching this may have never even seen Stargate at all. Still, I think I need to get into this series once I'm done with Babylon 5.
I never said anything about CGI...
I wonder if the shields where Asgard design like on the deadalus class would they have withstood that beam
IJN Yamato the Asgard plasma beam weapons would have I think cut through the satellite shields
And that was the exact example I was talking about
Can you do one on SGU's destiny? Please and thank you.
Could you do some videos about the ships and battles from Halo? Particularly the Keyes manuever
She was a cool ship.
Does somebody has sound clips from the sublight engine
please can you do one one the BC-304 daedalus class
