The BC-303 was the first human intergalactic battlecruiser...and served pretty well on its operations, specially on the battle of Antarctica(firing the railguns and lauching the F-302 interceptors at the same time,it was one of the most beautiful moments on that episode) I love this vessel so much, that I replicated it on LEGO parts, using the schematics provided online and my own tech ideas(like the Flux Stream Intergalactic Hyperdrive) I developed for my own entertainment.
A lot of people have already said this. When you imagine the smaller scale ships they feel more believable within the Stargate setting. They are supposed to be minnows punching above their weight. Using the X302 as scale make your sizes undeniable. I like both design is terms of real world and in game evolution. The 303 is an interesting first shot by the CGI team and feels somehow recognisable and possible within the world building. The 304 is a perfect evolution. It’s link the 303 is clear and it is an awesome looking ship even when being compared to ships from other franchises. Great video.
@jamesabernethy7896 Great comment, and I agree the tech progression in Stargate has clear simularatys with the previous iterations. Also, the 304 is my favourite sci-fi ship design wise. It's clearly inspired by real-world military vessels, and I can see if Stargate was real, earth/the US would build something along these lines 😀 and with the size, the 303 should be the 195m and not have on board 302s while the 304 should be 700m as its a space carrier and clearly is designed to carry the 302s so I can imagine a earth fleet comprising of 3 BC-304s for ship to ship combat with 48 302s for fighter support with 5 BC-303 acting as fast frigate support against fighters and light cruisers cover the 304s while they deal with large ships but that just my opinion
Your sizing in both ships makes way more sense than the "offical" numbers except for one thing: we cant build and do sea trials on an aircraft carrier in ten times the amount of time it took the USAF to build Prometheus at the "offical" size. It would have made more sense to have a back story about the crash at Rosewell being an Al'kesh and the folks at 51 were already at work on it.
@johnmiller4859 I believe they started work on the x-303 from season 2 as its stated in the show and I quote "since we encountered a goa'uld mother ship we have been working on a viable solution to counter it I give you the prometheus" or something like that said by major Davis in the episode disclosure now this could mean plans/blueprints being drawn up from season 2 with construction starting say season 3 or 4 so it give earth about 2 to 6 years of development and construction of the x.303 and all contributing areas of construction and from season 6 to 8 the 304 was being planed and built with the help of the asgard so I can accept that they can build them the size is definitely up for debate on both ships though but with each having 302s they have to be bigger as I've have shown or the 302s don't fit I just wish we got to see more of the construction methods and of course got actual realistic size from the creators it's fun to think about
Actually the hangar bay was in the super structure and the pods were the engines. As the hyperdrive was replaced with the asgard enhanced drive it is possible that the engines got so much smaller, that they refitted the remaining empty space into the new hangars. Since the center hangar had the same size than the pod hangars, it would not Make any difference in size. If they kept the f302 away the original size is very plausible and even the size increases towards the bc 304 as planned to include a fighter wing. But as we know from battlestars Galactica a lot of space is required to move around and keep you alive.
I like the X-303 design. It wasn't graceful or intimidating like other ships. it was purely functional and looked as though changes were made during construction from it's original design with parts added or removed due to trial and error in using alien tech that wasn't fully understood.
@CrankyPaperClip I agree the prometheus should be small so many visuals of it looking around 200 to 300 m long I just don't think the artist scaled the F-302 probably when designing both 303 and 304
One thing you have to admit it had plot armor. the battle at antarctica it had like cheat shields. over the ice the shields where going to fail, 20 or so more hits to the shields and about to ram the enemy ship thay still had shields. x-304 may be more advanced but if you want something to take a beating and keeps ticking get a 303.
I spent too much time reading about the ship weapons in Stargate and I have come to the conclusion that the Earth railguns are a bit diabolical. It is my guess that the railguns have a caliber of 20mm and a stated velocity of 2KM/S (6560 FPS). Considering the small caliber and high velocity of the weapon I think the railguns are significantly underpowered if you follow what the show does with them ... UNLESS they do not use only penetration as a means of damage. It is my belief that the railguns use AP-HE ammo (Specifically a Naquadah/naquidria enhanced explosive charge). I think that your size chart makes sense for on screen work but when it comes to power dynamics, the BC-303 is too large. It is my head cannon that the 195 meters is the actual length, and the BC-302's were an afterthought.
@johnsmithfakename8422 Yes, I agree. the railguns are supersonic bottle size slug projectile, I think maybe with some form of energy damage too, given the colour emited from the round when fired possibly the energy is from naquadah that is energised by the magnetic acceleration of the railgun when fired giving it extra damage and yes the size of the x-303 definitely didn't take the F-302s into consideration when designed so I accept the x-303 at 195m long as long as it dosent have F-302s but with the F-302s 195m just dosent work with the on screen visuals of the F-302s leaving the hanger, like you said It was probably and after thought in the design process however with the bc 304 there is now way around it the design as to be round 600m to 700m for the hanger bays alone as the design is clearly meant to have F-302s. i just think it's fun to speculate the sizes
I have to find your own scaling wrong again. This time you actually have a shadow of the X302 on the runway and it shows the point at which the fighter exits the bay. According to the image you chose for scaling th BC 303 should be at least 525 meters long By the way its not necessary to scale each side of the ship. The proportions can be directly derived from width. I suggest using Google sketchup. Its free and easy to use for Computer Aided drafting. It also has a huge libray of free 3d ships in Sci Fi for uses just like this. Im not saying 525 meters is the logical size....to get the most likely scale you'll have to scale many different images from different points in the show. This will show you the most common scaling in the show. Then it would be proper to find the size necessary for the ships design intent. If there is a match in those data points you would have found the most logical size.
The gua'old mothership is called a Ha'tack The 303 is smaller than the 304 and the 304 fits easily inside of the open part if a Wraith Hive ship I believe that your estimates of the ships sizes are too big as the 304 can land on one of Atlantis' piers. The larger size would be too big in may estimation Colonel Pendergast was the last commander, nor Pendergas
I agree with your scale the larger size seems right

@Joel-re9kt I'm hopefully looking into getting some lego stargate models they just so expensive 😫
Just found this channel and I like your stuff so I subscribed.
@warrenreid6109 thanks buddy much appreciated enjoy the content

I agree with your scale and I glad you did a video about one of my favourite starship in stargate
same opinion here

For me, I accept your scale of the X/BC-303 Prometheus by using the F-302 wingspan and on-screen visual media to find the correct scale of the ship.
The smaller scale makes sense.. the issue is probably they didn't visually scale everything right.
@CrankyPaperClip I agree the prometheus should be small so many visuals of it looking around 200 to 300 m long I just don't think the artist scaled the F-302 probably when designing both 303 and 304

@mwshields9002 yes it definitely was tanky except for that dam ori satellite which cut through those shields like butter

Hijacked by rouge NID agents ahh?? they don't look red to me.. ffs.
How many non rogue NID agents exist? 1 that I know of, everyone else were criminals
