This song is praising oak trees - one of the symbols of musculinity in Latvian folklore. During the summer solstice (Jāņi) men (especially those named Jānis) will wear crowns made from oak leaves. The lyrics are about how mighty, powerful and old the oak tree is. 😊
@@romekKR "līgo" is basically a connective. Most summer solstice songs have "līgo" in the end of every line of the lyrics. The meaning of the word is a bit blurry - some say it means "to sway", but not really and it's almost impossible to explain. Oak = ozols. Ozoliņš is a diminutive form of the word. :)
I haven't forgotten the oaks. I live in an area which seems to have a large variety of them. I paint them. I paint with them. Every leaf seems different compared to those around it. Even the fresh tart smell of fallen oak leaves is pleasant. And a walk in Octobre in a wind with them drifting by gives me a feeling as if I'm being showered with rose petals.
Before the lyrics, I’ll try to explain a few words: Līgo - sway (name of the first day of Midsummer) Jānis - Diety of fire (name of the second day of Midsummer) (just in plural - Jāņi) Oak tree, oak tree, Your big width, Three days sun came, Yet couldn’t come. Oak tree, oak tree, Your big bushiness, Three days Partridge came, Yet couldn’t come. Oak tree, oak tree, Your big greatness, Daughters/Girls came singing, While breaking branches for the flowers crowns. Oak tree, oak tree, Your big eld, I was born, found you, I will die, you will stay. Gather along children of Jānis, Under the bushy oak tree, Under the bushy oak tree, There’s the Jānis’ place of honor.
"I will die and you will stay" touches me deeply. There is an oak tree blight in Northern California. I have lost one of my two 30-year oak trees and the other is dying. I did not think I would live to see them go, and I have not said this to anyone else how sad and wrong this feels. I hope you understand. Thank you for the translation.

I am the son of two of the WW2 Home Army, who chose exile in America rather than death at the hands of the Soviet Army secret police - it's our genetic memories, that are weeping. Our Ancestors are calling to us, reminding us of what we once were - free and pagan and one with the Earth and all Nature. Look at 2000 years of separation from that connection to Mother Earth and the love and lore of our Ancestors has done to us. Look at the hate that rules so many hearts, in a nation who's religion supposedly follows the Prince of Peace. Your heart and soul are right to weep.

Those lyrics have a deeper meaning. The pagan latvian religion is based on the thought that people and living beings are only contemporary in this world and that sun, water, stones and trees should be sacred and worshiped as they will stay forvever. This also lets us be reminded of how unimportant we actually are and our role is just to fit in within the nature.

K téhle písni se stále vracím, vždycky zahřeje u srdce🥰 Díky z Čech bratrům Slovanům
Jen že sou to bratři BALTOVE!... 😜🤣🤣
We are Balts not Slavs.
балты не славяне не германцы. но Чехи наши братья❤
Such beautiful voices! This is a powerful, joyful video!🙏☮️
Who sings in the heart of the Nature, sings to the Heart of Life. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from BAires, Argentina.
I Love you all, my brothers and sisters in Latvia. Miss my homeland with all my heart. MAY GOD BLESS YOU and keep you safe FOREVER!! Lots of Love from Livija Strauss - AUSTRALIA.
This is how I see the future generations , going back to our roots and caring for the earth and all that's there in .
That would be the best thing to happen...let us dream it into being.
That will only happen if the technology allows it. If we dont have enough clean green tech, then nothing will change. Humans are nothing more than parasites.
that is our wonderful reality - not all people are like Trump. .

It’s our culture traditions ! We celebrated Līgo in night from 23 June to 24 June
You must have really long days that far north, during the Solstice.
@@bastette5475 They're technically about 18 hours between sunrise and sunset during the solstice, but I swear it barely gets properly dark at night :D
That's why it's very common practice to stay up till the morning light or longer.
I don't understand any word, but my heart translates it with pure joy of life. Thanks, it rises my heart.
Just goes to show you that language is no barrier when we have music and expression. Gorgeous... Greetings and love from America!
Beautiful and powerful! That's the earth singing in her children's voices, right there.

President Putin, Former and Future President Trump, and other Great Leaders of our time recognize that the Super Rich Bilderberg Group, with People such as Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg, and the "Pink Rat" Doctor Doom Fauci (and their paid off Politicos) are behind this Plandemic, to bring in an Evil World Government, using this Medical Tyranny as their Tool. Avoid Gate's Shots if you can, especially kids and young people. My Country is on the Verge of Revolution because of the FRAUD used to displace our President Trump. Thank you for sharing some of your music and your culture with me. I am truly grateful. I wish I could give more than 1 'like' for this.
I love the song but more importantly I love every person in this video. They have such light in their faces. I wish I knew every single one of them.
Baltic culture had a deep connection with Nature and a great respect for Nature. And it comes back because it’s deep within us.
This is so beautiful: All generations united singing this Ligo song.

When the children came on I instantly started crying. So amazing to see tradition being celebrated, held onto and passed onto the next generation. Globalization, social media and cancel culture would have us all be one homogenous at the cost of diversity, creativity and authenticity being erased from the face of the earth.
I'm a simple man, I see a man in a field wearing a tree with a drum, I'm clicking that thumbnail knowing there is a joy to be found waiting.
Greetings from Lithuania! Weary beautiful and well-made video can't stop watching !! big respect and like !!
Oak tree song, sounds really wonderful full of joy brothers and sisters!

I have to watch this every day❤️
I can't stop listening to this music !! It has something magical ....... I read the translation and I was struck by the point where it says that the oak remains while we pass ... unfortunately how many wonderful ancient oaks we humans have destroyed ..... The wonderful ones in the video protect them, take care of them ... they are our roots, our life and that of future generations.
im happy our voice has reached you
Those lyrics have a deeper meaning. The pagan latvian religion is based on the thought that people and living beings are only contemporary in this world and that sun, water, stones and trees should be sacred and worshiped as they will stay forvever. This also lets us be reminded of how unimportant we actually are and our role is just to fit in within the nature.
Nuostabi daina ir klipas! Meilė broliams ir seserims iš Latvijos!
Thank you for sharing such beautiful and moving music. I love when lyrics transcend their language and speak directly to the human heart like this.
As an English person this is simply beautiful..... Be proud of who you are!!!!
