As much as I absolutely adore his insanely creative cover of "Billie Jean", I do kind'a wonder if he's getting tired of playing it. If you watch his performances of it over the years, they start out funny. As time passes they become like this--rushed, and almost perfunctory. I keep hoping he'll take the creativity of turning one instrument into three or four and either cover other songs or create new ones.
In this case I reckon it might seem a bit rushed but then again it's being performed on an open festival stage in front of a large crowd of people who are not necessarily huge ukulele aficianados, I'm sure he could do a more gradual buildup in a theatre or more intimate venue. The crowd really loved it and enjoyed every minute of his set (and indeed there was a last minute rush to buy his CD's at the merchandise tent straight after!!
@@noeleyc Oh, I certainly believe there was a rush on his album. He deserves it as a talented artist and the "Billie Jean" cover is great for drawing people in. I do concede that the venue may have something to do with it, though I seem to recall it was different in such performances earlier on. Really, I admire him as an artist and hope he doesn't feel like he "has" to perform that song.
I think all successful musicians love the fact that their big "hit" gets them recognition, but after several years they grow as artists and feel like they are so much more than their big hit song, and they get sick of playing it, and they get annoyed that when they try to play all their new work that they are so proud of, people just scream for their big hit. It can be frustrating for sure. Some musicians have a very healthy attitude about and I'm sure James does as well since he still plays it. It's a great song, and one of the greatest covers of any song ever, because it brings so many new things to the song and it takes an amazing musician to create and play it. I do think he has other great songs though. His voodoo child cover is amazing and my favorite original song of his is "she's still got it." I'm not really into slow songs that much but I really like his more rock oriented stuff.
Unfortunately due to Covid it wasn't on last year and this year is cancelled too. With luck it'll be back better than ever next year so everyone can enjoy it again
Wow! Incredible
I didn't know this artist. His performance is incredible. That is the way the music from other artist must be taked.

Music comes from inside , every day is not the same . Sometimes you gotta do it. But he is a inspirational uke player. ❤️
I am trying to learn this .
