- At the start of the 2023 season there was not much hope for the Arizona Diamondbacks other than to continue to develop some of the games most intriguing young players. But just like the 2023 Orioles, they performed earlier than anticipated and managed to squeak their way into the playoffs as the second Wild Card team where they would go on to become one of the unlikeliest World Series teams in MLB History...

I'm a Brazilian and never really cared much about baseball and last year, out of pure boredom and just 'cause I'd signed up for Star+ and happened to have MLB games broadcast at my disposal almost everyday, I decided to give it a shot and try to learn more about it. I've always wanted to visit the city of San Francisco, so, right off the bat, I decided I'd be supporting the SF Giants, but the MLB was heading into the post-season and I learned the Giants hadn't classified, so I'd have to pick another team to watch. The D'backs just so happened to be the team whose games coincided the most with my free time, so I naturally watched their games more often than not. Ended up getting entirely hooked thanks to their audacity on the field, their teamwork and, of course, 'cause everyone loves an underdog. Watching them lose the World Series hurt more than seeing my soccer team get relegated tbh, which is freaking wild considering I couldn't care less about baseball by this time last year. Long story short, long live baseball and the team that made me love it. Let's go D'backs!

As an Arizonan it hurt but I couldn’t be mad, we were far from where we belonged and I appreciated just being there at all. I’m glad you saw the beauty in it and were entertained, it was definitely a wild road

As a D-backs fan, it was exhilarating to see my team get all the way to the WS, something I thought wouldn't happen for a long time since the first time they did I was too young. I've always been a casual sports fan, but this run has made me keep a finer eye in sports (especially in regards to baseball). And I hope that we get our 2nd dub soon, even if the bullpen sucks right now (but hopefully the kinks will be worked out by the later months).
You can't tell me it isn't an interesting story to see that both teams had a very similar path to get to there and that's also the Rangers first World Series

I cried for about a solid hour after Corbin Carroll caught that final put. All I wanted since I was a boy was to watch the dbacks play in the world series. Went to game 4 with the whole family!

The breakdown of the Kimbrel-Marte matchup at the end of Game 3 is a great example of how statistics don't always tell the whole story. On paper, it seemed quite unlikely for Marte to get a hit after falling behind 0-1. But in the real world, everyone and their mother knew that the guy on a monster hitting streak was going to walk it off against the perennial choke artist.

The worst team swept division winning Brewers and Dodgers (yes I know they seem to often choke in October) but it was impressive how they won so easily against those teams. They also won the last 2 games of the NLCS while on the road. Quite an achievement for the worst team.
Honestly it's incredible the fact that both teams that made it to the World Series in 2023 both have a similar path to get to that point

That was quite literally one of the main reasons the rules were introduced, and the DBacks happened to already have a team-wide philosophy of aggressive baserunning

You can’t compare the 2022 Phillies to the 2023 Diamondbacks. Phillies went on a tear after Girardi, finished with 87 wins and didn’t have a negative run differential.
The talent levels and expectations were different as well. Heck, the Phillies were supposed to be at minimum fringe playoff contenders the moment Bryce Harper stepped foot there in 2019 but they always kept underachieving. Really the 2022 season was the year they finally didn’t mess up for once.

They never went from the *worst* record in 2020 that belonged to the Pittsburgh pirates who went 19-41 they also had a better record than the tigers.
As a student in Arizona you could feel the energy all postseason, although unsuccessful in a title it was still VERY awesome seeing how loud and rowdy Arizona fans can get. That and the Coyotes in Mullet Arena made me fall in love with AZ sports.
Such an awesome run to experience as an Arizona resident. Seeing how electric the Valley became when they beat the Dodgers was an unreal experience!
Watching this now is giving me refound hope in this year… our team is so good on paper we just have had injuries and can’t piece good pitching and good offense together
