The Greatest Baseball Game You've Never Seen...

  • With each passing year we are getting further and further away from how the game of baseball used to be played even 10 years ago. Because of this we may never see certain events ever again in MLB. Like a pitcher hitting a home run, an 18 inning game, or the absurdity of 4 players on one side of the infield. But few come close to the iconic game 163, an event that was abandoned a few years ago. Because of this, I would like to revisit one of the events greatest installments ever played between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres on October 1st 2007.

    I bought a ticket with 24 hrs notice and drove overnight from California to attend this game. You might see me in a big A’s hoodie front row next to the RF foul pole. Best game I’ve ever seen, and worth the 16-hr drive.

    That hit by Giles was wild lol. I couldn't believe he almost hit the wall on that. No wonder Holliday started in on it. The swing looked weak and had a poor contact look to it. But it really carried. Coors field.

    In 1969, there was a Twilight double header in which both games were won by the New York Mets. ... Both games were 1-0. ... Each run in each game was batted in by the pitchers, each of whom had a complete game victory.
    F*** modern baseball.

    Not trying to be rude but the message of the impossiblity of something happening again is lost on me is the game 163 not a thing anymore or something?

      The new playoff expansion rules just use head to head and other factors to determine who gets the spot instead of a winner take all game

    • @JasonThomasLionHeart
      @JasonThomasLionHeart 5 месяцев назад

      Winner take all is much more difficult to happen. There are already more playoff teams, 12 of the 30. Tiebreaker is decided by the two teams season series, if they are tied then I think it's decided by more runs scored. That being identical is highly improbable

    • @lakerskid2013
      @lakerskid2013 3 месяца назад

      Nope, they got rid of it following the 2022 postseason expansion. Tiebreakers go as follows:
      1. Head-to-head
      2. Intradivision record (records against teams in their own division and applies even if tied teams don’t reside in the same division as each other)
      3. Interdivision record (basically record against teams outside their divisions)
      4. Last half of Intraleague games (records against teams in their own league in the last half of the season)
      5. Last half of Intraleague games Plus One (outcome of the last game of the first half of Intraleague games is used, so basically the same as #4 tiebreaker except going back another game)
      By the way this is straight from MLB’s website from where I got this from.

    Nobody talks about it enough the that the Padres loss in that tiebreaker game sparked a 14 year playoff drought, they were never the same after that loss. With how valuable of a win that was for the Rockies, that was only the second time in their 14 year existence (first time in 12 years) that they made the playoffs altogether. Then the Rockies having their first playoff series win and making the World Series was wild.
    The Tampa Bay Rays then the following year basically pulled a page out of the Rockies’ book by having their own unexpected playoff season and making the World Series as well which to me 2007 and 2008 was one of the wildest two year stretches of craziness I had ever seen.
