Great tip about starting your cut in the middle of the blade! I have a couple of rulers I need to replace due to knicks in the points from rotary cutter damage. Cute border!
I love this idea! I collect stripes because they are unique for designs. This is just one more awesome idea for a stripe, besides putting them as a block. And i love that they are flanked by the solid so if there's an "uh oh" it's not on the stripe.
I have to do a lot of online shopping. WA is becoming increasingly a "fabric desert." Doesn't help that to get to most stores I have to get a $50 ferry ride or drive an extra 100 miles each way. 😕. It gets to be an expensive hobby these days. 😢
Cool technique! I will try this for a border on my next scrap quilt because I would like to piece my own stripe fabric from scraps instead of purchasing a striped fabric. Love the idea and design!
Funny you mentioned cutting in reverse today. I've been working on a quilt with many little pieces and noticed this morning that I've been cutting backwards along the top of my ruler when squaring up HSTs. 😂 Double rows of just what you showed today would be a cute table runner too.
Cute pattern! I have some fabric with round wrapped up peppermints that this would work with, too. Not trying to be too picky but saying that the stripes are "perpendicular" only means they are at 90 degrees. It may have been more helpful to tell us whether you cut the fabric cross grain or with the grain. Sorry, 25 years as a math teacher, I needed to say something 8-) Thanks for the tutorial and pattern!
Love your videos crazy guy 😍. I think you should name those blocks "peppermint and fudge." 😂. Glad to see even the experts fudge their pieces to fit. 👍🏼💞💞😁
Rob you crazy kid. I lost you when apparently Man Sewing ended and could not find you all this time. I'm sure it has been about a year since I've seen you. I don't know how that might have been avoided when you apparently started a new job, but it would have helped if I had a heads up. Glad I found you, love your stuff.
I did this block for a quilt a hundred years ago;). I pieced the strip :(. Sure wish I had known this little bit of knowledge then. Squaring the points the way I did it was very laborious.
Hombre Rob donde te habías metido por fin te encontré!!!!!! Ya seria hora !!!!! . No entiendo lo que dices pero viendo también se aprende🤩🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
Bruce, I am really liking the Juki DX-3000QVP, sews terrific, runs quiet, and the lights are super bright. I also have the industrial, J150-QVP, not seen often on camera, but also in the I LOVE IT category!
Glad you found me too. I was simply the host and creative director for Man Sewing, that ended for me in 2019, so this is where I have been hanging out, quilting and goofing off.
I would like to use the peppermint twist block on the side, too. Not just the top and bottom. Need help figuring out if that's even possible. I don't know where to start when figuring out the math. How many blocks per side?
Possible, - well anything is possible, but it will affect the horizontal borders too, they are 5 1/2" and the verticals are 4 1/2" wide. You will need 9 Zig Zag blocks per side to fill in the 45" and some more of the white strips to fill in the spaces that do not quite work out, hehe
I have the materials and am in the process of cutting out pieces...one problem, the instructions say to trim the panel to 24 1/2 x 42 1/2. The actual panel measures 24 x 44, so I can’t make it 24 1/2 and if I cut the length to 42 1/2 I would need to split the difference to both the top and bottom and then the printed panel boarders would not match. Also there are no sewing instructions for boarder #1. Luckily I have a bit extra fabric so I will make the zig zag first. Then create boarder #1 so the zig zag boarder will fit and adjust the length of the stripe to fit the sides...and I couldn’t find any updates on the Michael Miller project updates. Thank good ness I have a bit more length of the stripe and can adjust boarder #1 to fix the problem
Peppermint twist and the mashed potato were dances from the 1960’s. Love the zig zag borders!
No wonder I wasn't getting any notifications for Man Sewing. I'm glad I found you again. You do make your projects fun!
This is such a fun border to add to the quilt
As usual you are the kind of man to make us go back to the sewing room. Thanks for the information.
Great tip about starting your cut in the middle of the blade! I have a couple of rulers I need to replace due to knicks in the points from rotary cutter damage.
Cute border!
Ha! I have some tiny waste triangles left over from another project. Great idea!

Fantastic Border, thanks for the video Rob!

I have some stripey 5 inch squares left over from a charm pack. You have given me a great idea for experimentation!

Love this, thanks!
Great fun.
Brilliant!
Top tip ruler and cutting use.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just love your zigzag strip, will it be easier to start that little triangle at 4" and then trim it down?
That is a good idea, I was following the pattern as written, but I do think that could help maybe just 3 3/4" to start
omg you crack us up
Way cool!
Bravo!
Muy bonito 👍
Not into gnomes. Sorry. But where can i get to pattern on the back wall! Talk about super cool, that's awesome. Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Wow this looks like fun where can we get the fabric? 🌞
Love this pattern and how do you like your new sewing machine?

why did you change your you tube channel name? I thought you've retired! so good to find you again !
Glad you found me too. I was simply the host and creative director for Man Sewing, that ended for me in 2019, so this is where I have been hanging out, quilting and goofing off.
I enjoyed your videos! Thx! I was wondering what model of the Juki sewing machine you use in your videos? Thanks again!
I have the industrial J150, Longarm on 7ft frame J350 and the Multi Purpose you see me use in all the shows is a DX3000 QVP - Love them all.
The peppermint twist and the mashed potato are dances from 60s and 70
I can’t get the link to the free pattern. Where do I find it?

Where do I get the pattern?
I'm finding this video in 2023. Would a free pattern still be available? How do I access it?
Rob what iron are you using?
The cordless is the Panasonic 360 Iron, and it does work very well.
I m from India & I m learning from u but I didn’t find precut material here pls guide me
Why not make red triangle little larger.
Why not cut the square a quarter inch bigger?
I need to "up my game" when I put my boarders on. Thanks for tips on cheating to get the most out of the fabric...
Rather than having to cheat the triangle in a smidge, why not just cut the initial square 1/8" to 1/4" bigger?
TFS!!!
