  • This was a previous engine combination in the car, and walked circles around current mild LA setup. This was a 1987 Roller 318 block, stock magnum heads, edelbrock air-gap intake, Hughes SER1822ALN-10 camshaft. 218/222 duration at .050 and .539/.549 lift on 110 lobe angle. Matching hughes valve spring kit. Ran a 670 quickfuel brawler carb. Unfortunately failing cam bearings led to oiling issues and I opted for an inexpensive setup to get car going again. But I have these videos and wanted to do something with them! Enjoy! Would absolutely build this combination again!

      It was such a fun combo. I miss it greatly, and would/will absolutely build a similar engine again. It was very impressive. Had to have had 50-75 more hp than current engine easily.

    Man iv always wanted to build one of these. The interior was so classy for the 80s and id build it very similar engine/looks wise. Sounds excellent brother 💪

    Those cars were very popular in the 80's when I was a kid.That is an awesome build!! Fantastic choice on the wheels, it brings the whole look together! My uncle had the (same color) Fifth Avenue 318, with the vinyl top/seats, fully loaded, with tinted windows and spoked Wheels and white wall tires. Beautiful car and it drove an rode fantastic! Those cars are very underappreciated. It was pretty much like the Cadillac for Chrysler Corp in their day.

    There's a local guy that has a 408"(5.7 stroker using Scat forged rotating assembly) Magnum in a Mirada that runs low 10s using Edelbrock heads - extensively reworked - and a hydraulic roller. The car is rather gutted for a street driver, but it has reeled in some cars that looked much faster. I like the Magnum blocks as they seem pretty strong and are roller cam ready.

    Just put the same cam in a 360 magnum. Did cam eddy air gap intake and shorty headers. Cant wait to see what it will do in my 86 w-150

      Should wake it up really well! Idle may be a little smoother but should still chop noticeably with proper carb/tuning. This thing had a great rpm range and would pull hard up top.

    • @brennerfarms1683
      @brennerfarms1683 Год назад

      Yup hopefully it runs pretty good for stock block. I was going to go one step up on cam but being a truck i wanted to get good off idle power through mid range.

    Hey Ryan , you're on track as far as the Vehicle is concerned , but Remember that , these Engines have Torque , so you're actually have a Big-Block , set-up , going if you decide to go back with the former set-up , then look into a Higher Performance Bearing , and Bearings , that may be more of a Studier Bearing/s !!!

      Thank you! It was a solid ripper for sure. Nice power band and never “nosed over” In upper rpm range. Happily pulled passed 6k. 3.55 gears tamed it down a bit with the auto and its rpm capabilities.

    That engine sounds as responsive and as healthy as I've ever heard.
    Mine just doesn't seem to be balanced as good. I wonder if we should have balanced it after adding the Keith Black pistons?

    • @RyanUrbanski
      @RyanUrbanski  Год назад +2

      Thank you I appreciate that! Honestly this was all factory rotating assembly. Im sure it wasnt predicted to spin to near 6500 rpm but it did fine. Ive noticed its mainly carb tuning that really helped get the response and snap this thing had. Once it was dialed in, it really ripped.

      Cool!
      I'm working at my carb little by little. After reading between the lines, I threw the carb size calculator in the trash and just slammed an 800 avs2 on my mod 318. It works and runs a lot better than the 600 and 650 Hollies that I had. Heck, a stock 340 six pack had over One thousand CFM going into it! Over the winter, I'll be installing an air fuel wide band 02 setup so I can get jetting dialed in nice nice... And I got one of those Powerblast plates which fans out the accelerator pump fuel shots. The guys that have never tried one say it's a gimmick but anyone who's actually put one on have only positive feedback. We'll see!

      it was extremely enjoyable to drive! I don’t have any official numbers unfortunately. Not as quick as my 5.7 hemi challenger, but not far off. Gas mileage wasn’t terrible. In the realm of 15mpgs on freeway if I recall correctly.

      This is a custom built system. You can take an exhaust system for an A-body, like plymouth duster or dodge dart and modify it to work.
