Depends on what pound test braid you will be using, and how far you need to cast. Lighter braid will give extra casting distance. 6500 size= 50/65 pound braid; 7500 size= 65/80 pound braid; 8500 size= 80/100 pound braid.
That main gear is tiny and not beefy enough for that type of application they appear to market it for. Penn should take a closer look at what Daiwa has done with the spool, body and main gear on the new Certate SW range. That is what I will be buying.
@@fadelover123 Correct: if you are a "skisher" who purposely swims out and cranks the reel underwater, the Van Staal is the reel designed to do just that. However, if you are just doing the occasional dunk or submersion, the IPX8 rating is more than sufficient.
spinfisher: black and gold Penn battle: black and gold Slammer: black and gold Authority: black and gold Daiwa bg: black and gold Shimano spheros: dark blue and gold. Im getting tierd of penn and other brands same old black and gold theme i wish they made them in other colors.
From what I've heard these are made in China. I could be wrong but I don't think the average consumer is okay with buying a Chinese made reel for that price. Especially since you can get a Japanese made Shimano for the same price.
Penn has always been a solid reel.
What do you recommend for wells catfish in Spain? These fish get over 200 lbs thanks Jeff.

What would your opinion and size recommendation for surf casting
I'm not a big surf caster but I think 5000 would be good enough
@@AliexFolgueira thanks for replying so quickly brother appreciate your time and input!
Steve is the best guy Penn has
Love penn reels, question is skanu at icast 2022?

How much
Thanks for the Awesome coverage Aliex!
Great reel but for over $500, I'll buy a completely sealed Van Staal.
I agree over $500 for a Chinese reel is insane
@@streetfighter398 Van Staal are also made in China.
Pretty sure the authority was made to compete with the saltiga and stella more than the van stalls.

Most people don't know that.😂
Think you could do a video on the new Penn Fathom II lever drag? Specifically the new 80 size they’re introducing?
At least one vid for the new Fathoms is now up on YT. Several others should follow soon.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff dude
I just bought a shimano stradic ci4 or i would buy a penn and try it out.
You can't go wrong with the Stradic but this reel is not going to be used for the same fishing as the Stradic.
I prefer Hex screws in a reel, using Philips makes it looks cheap....
❤ penn reels, but I think shimano beat penn to the punch 😮
I love Penn but hell to the No for $500
I know hefty price but! As a kayak angler whose reels live underwater I'm buying 2!haha it will be my go to setup
@@AliexFolgueira why not a Van Staal?
VS is a surf reel.
Black and gold again...why cant they make any other colors?
why?

Penn slammer 4 DX is a better value
Penn reel cannot fight with shimano and daiwa..penn reel is not perfact reel👎
Shimano all day for me
I think penn new model is too much heavy and expensive
Slammer 4 is best choice for all fishing
